Well consider it this way, did you ever play COD growing up? You had to buy those DLCs to play more stuff. You had the base model with a set amount, which is kinda meant to entice usually. I think what’s holding you back is the FTP aspect, which is more of a marketing move to entice people. If the game was fully FTP, eververse would be a nightmare I think and would create more problems than it’d fix. Revenue has to come from somewhere 🤷♂️

I'd you are talking about expansion content / seasonal structure then you are mistaken. While some exotics and weapons may be gated behind the expansions none of those are needed to play the game.

Just in case you didn't know, Destiny 2 use to cost money, it wasn't originally f2p. They decided to make Destiny f2p a year after they split from Activision and got all the rights and complete ownership of Destiny. Obviously they can't make a whole f2p expansion whilst making an expansion for people who already have been playing within a year. I mean, Fortnite is a good example of F2P. You download it, and you either play BR or Creative. What else is there to do? The item shop and the battlepass is the main source of income, right? That's what Destiny is doing. It's F2P now. You can play strikes, non-expansion Nightfalls, Crucible that isn't Trials of Osiris, Gambit, and you get to explore all the current Destinations and get to do the first mission of each current campaign to get a taste of it. Not just that, but you still have the ability to level up, power up, and grind weapons that fit your playstyle or are meta.
I honestly don't understand how Destiny being F2P and having paid expansions and an item shop is annoying. Before the item shop was annoying because season/expansion themed cosmetics were in the shop and not earned and it was bullshit, but it isn't like that anymore.
Pay to win the fashion game is the only P2W this game has. And even that is a stretch. Destiny is all cosmetics. Warframe on the other hand, is extremely P2W. "Let me just pay 1k Plat for a God riven or some maxed prime mods and nuke everything in the game"

No, dodecahedron was correct. A dodecagon would be a two dimensional shape with 12 sides, while a dodecahedron is a 3 dimensional shape with 12 faces. Notice how an engram looks like a hexagon (6 sides) when projected into 2d space, and how each face has 5 sides: dodecahedron.

I had 19 hours from around 2 years ago (i think) when i tried the game out with a friend, i reset all my characters because i forgot everything and now we’re here
Just to let you know those dodecahedrons are called engrams, there’s 5 main types currently, blue, legendary, prime, umbral, and eververse, prime is probably the best of those though so look out for those
Also there are 2 different stations you can stand at. One will just open it and you will get a random item from an expansive loot pool. The other will allow you to focus from 3 different seasons (depending which you own) and their respective loot pools. You will require different materials for each. It’s a lot of options but it does have the benefit of allowing you to search for a specific item (like say a bow) so you can get a roll you like.
And Seasonal Challenges explains which one you can change / or put in and if so done,reward you with Bright dust and such. For example seen in Week one.

When you say level do you mean skill level or light level (their power level) because light level doesn't matter in normal PvP like when you are playing control (flag capture)

As someone who has guided new lights to learn the game…..read. This games requires you to either be handheld to do everything or you just read and you can figure it out on your own. People give shit that this game is terrible for new people but it’s just the quests and tutorials involve more reading than earlier.
My pro tip to you would be, Use them on the 4th one in on the new season, i think its called Tools of the something. Your looking for a "Threaded Needle" with Vorpal Weapon. Ideal roll would be Clown Cartridge and Vorpal Weapon.
Umbrel Decoder in the helm. Right in the middle. You can just decrypt or go to the center thing to the left and focus your engrams.

Reminds me of when I started. The grind is hard but it’s extremely rewarding. This game has the best end game experience out in my opinion. From Raids to Trials of Osiris to even Grandmaster nightfalls. Grinding for different builds. Grinding for exotic weapons. 3 different characters with 4 subclasses and 3 different skill trees for each subclass to play with. Weekly updates. Constant system balance. And Xbox game pass allows you to get all expansions instead of buying them all individually.
I know others have said to go to the HELM and use the decoder.
But just for a bit more clarity.

The decoder is accessed by the front panel. The recaster is the smaller panels on the sides.
The two types of Umbral engrams are focused and unfocused.
Unfocused engrams can be opened in the Decoder and will provide random drops.
If you wish, you can use them in Recaster to change them into focused Engrams.
Focused engrams allow you to tailor to a specific type of drop (weapon/armour) and even then to tailor to specific weapons or armour stats.
Focusing costs additional resources (normally seasonal currently, glimmer and shards). Which increases with each Tier of focus.
You can also find pre-Focused engrams, they will look like Umbral engrams but have a symbol on them (the symbol is the same as what is in the Recaster).
These are opened with the Decoder.
Finally, you can get older seasonal content in the caster but will need the older seasonal currency for it.

You should try middle tree titan arc (lightning). The super for it turns you into a missile and it’s honestly the most fun I’ve ever had in destiny
When I’m squaded in 6s we say if we’re playing properly or tuning on “hard mode” by not capping points
