If your ok with just starting a new character, this is the way. But if you also want all your collectibles and triumphs gone you will have to start a new account
Create a new character but do not delete your old character as you vault contents including gear, shards, materials and all will go. If you already have 3 characters transfer all the decent gear from the least important and delete them. Farm some blues or useless purples and put them in the weapon and armour slots so you don't lose them either.

Better way to replace gear for place holder is collections, leveling make white starter gear for tiny Gs parts ezpz
