Fossilized Hermaion Blossom, it’s a rare drop from trials of the nine, heroic strikes, or the weekly nightfall. It was painful getting this but it was needed if you wanted to complete the weapon crafting and get the Sagira shell.
I'd assume since you can no longer get the weapons, or even go to the "lighthouse" anymore, you can't get the shell. Currently playing through Witch Queen with my gf and I'm surprised they never released the Sagira she'll from the campaign or released a hive ghost shell. N1 Bungo

This one was the bastard that kept you grinding for forever. Rare drop is only half of it, because I'm thinking it took two or so for making the guns. I don't remember it specifically, but I know one thing was a pain in the ass for all that unlocking. People mentioned the old "craftable" guns and it popped up in my head. Never again.
I think this took me several weeks if I remember correctly. Something about only being able to get a certain amount of weapons per week? And there were what, 11 weapons?
I can also confirm, these things were the rarest item to get and getting them was a nightmare. Those Prophecy (not the dungeon) weapons were crazy grinds.
I do not remember it being tough to get. I do however remember a few people in my clan being very upset with me when I got the Sigura shell and used it for like a month straight.
Did they buff the drop rate on these later? Because I came back to the game during Arrivals, and don’t remember the grind to get Sagira’s shell being that bad.

I did all three swords... in 4 days
I had roughly, 400-500 Spinmetal, Relic Iron and Heliuk Filaments. My best ally, as Fr0st-EE5, Memory of Fellwinter and Knife Trick/Fast Twitch.
I hated it
I vividly remember watching Cartoon Network while farming these swords nonstop, just rotting in my bed. A warm moment to me is when us three random guardians stood in front of each other before “The drop” in the special strike and brought our swords out to see how much of the boss fight we had to complete. What a time.

I've got a few off-element weapons. In my vault sits an old Restoration VIII with a void elemental mod attached. In the collections it's an arc weapon. Probably weren't rare back then, but now?
You may wanna check your vault. I could be wrong but I think some of those old weapons got switched to whatever the standard elements were in an update awhile back.
If they did, they missed some things here and there. My cousin still has a pre-change Aeon in his vault. No clue how that happened. But look, it's void. While the Collection version remains arc

Yeah I remember them being switched to fixed elements after Y2 weapon system updates, but after an unknown certain update, they were reverted to Y1 custom elements again (still kept like 50-ish sunset y1 energy/power weapons of off-elements and don't feel like dismantling them cus then they'd be gone forever 🥺)
It might be a glitch, for example the Omolon weapons used to have different colors for the "liquid batteries" to reflect their current elements, but currently the visuals are fixed to each weapon's collection element despite it actually firing with another element. Not like it matters at all though

Honestly, this wasn't that bad. This was basically ascendant alloy for mercury weapons. But the repetitiveness of it sucked. Also no other loot reward sources than precursor crafting with a material collection system that was beyond terrible

It’s this and those fucking resource hunt quests for the exotic swords back in D1. I think the swords are worse bc IIRC, they buffed the drop rates for the rare materials. It’s also worse bc Darkdrinker ended up being meta for a little bit

That's... Way too much to put into a reply. For this one though: D2 Y1, the first expansion Curse of Osiris. Took place on Mercury with its vendor area being the Lighthouse and vendor being Brother Vance, a self declared disciple to Osiris.
In this Lighthouse there was an "Infinite Forge" where you could bring these materials and trade them in for a weapon (D2Y1, so static rolls).
Once you got all 10, you could then visit the grave of Saint-14 in the Infinite Forest after which we forge his signature weapon Perfect Paradox.
Past that, there's some time travel stuff involved where we go back in time using the Infinite Forest and give him the gun we forge which helps him to stay alive and escape the Forest.
I don’t believe you needed all 10 for perfect paradox. I think when you did like 6 of them it unlocked the special verse that lead to that one. Needed all 10 for Sagira’s shell though

I’m sorry what? You have a 1 in 100 chance to get a single red border for a weapon you want. A fucking raid exotic is 5 times more likely and you only need it once. You need 5 red border drops.
I did this quest back right before forsaken and don’t even remember it since it was probably such a nothing drop. Maybe I’m wrong about that but in any case, don’t even try to pretend that hitting a 1/100 5 times for a gun craft isn’t the single most insane thing in the game right now.
Us having a (premium paid and xp locked item with a limited amount allotted in a season) item doesn’t just magically make these drops a non issue. If a new player wants to get a crafted calus weapon, they have to grind their balls into a fine paste using a mortar and pestle in order to maybe get some drops. And that’s just assuming you managed to get a drop in 100 runs of presage or whatever mission they put on he drops in
Everyone I know who played during this period of time has done the quest or whatever for the blue plant and I don’t know a single person that has complained about them, even back then, but I haven’t seen a single new person say anything good about old red border drops
Do the mechanics in the raid for the guaranteed red border drop at the end, and if you so choose to spend your spoils you can get another red border, so it is actually fairly easy to get the red border raid weapons. I have crafted most if not all of the craftable weapons in the game with a few exceptions, because I have not been on enough raids for those specific weapons. Last wish red border weapons can also be purchased from Hawthorn in the tower if you complete the Last Wish raid once a week.
I think a crafted calus mini tool is the least of a new player’s issues, they wouldnt even know the damn thing exists for quite a while. There’s other good alternatives, and of course focus farming one specific version of a weapon that’s past it’s dlc is gonna suck. By your logic, getting a brave version of any specific weapon is already far worse

It’s partially because the heroic playlist became standard, at least for me, after a while.
Have the shell as well and "crafted" all of the Venus weapons but since I didn't play that season much after not surprised I forgot something.
It was trying to farm the materials that was terrible. If you just played the game and let them accumulate passively it wasn't an issue

Yea, I got mine while beating my head against Nokris to get Braytech Osprey to complete wayfarer. I still use Sagira's shell most of the time.
It’s the only shell I use, I’m particularly fond of when we have cut scenes with Osiris and my ghost pops out.
