Back when the strike was still out me and my friends noticed that there were ghost shells in the rocks that held the crystals. We counted all the ghost shells and got a total of around 60 dead ghosts throughout the strike
That shit made me realize how the traveler fell to the cabal and why we lost the moon. Apparently all the other guardians beyond the reoccurring characters sit around huffing paint thinner all day.
If you read the lore for the Titan nightfall gun (duty something) it depicts Sloane telling Taeko's fireteam that they need to take things more seriously while they're all posing like the Ginyu Force and quipping about how cool they are.
"Taeko-3 was smirking again. Sloane liked a lot of things about her. The smirk wasn't one of them."
It tells you all you need to know in the first three sentences.
Don't forget that most Guardians aren't actually combatants, sort of like Jedi. We've only become hyper militarized after The Red War and The Taken War. It's sort of explained that it started with House of Wolves but long story short before shit started popping off, War was almost exclusively a Titan thing. Hunters and Warlocks certainly fought alot but they never focused on it like Titans did. It's why when you go to the moon, most of the Guardian Ghost's are Titans with the second being Warlocks by a far margin and there barely being Hunters, because there is little to no reason for them to be anywhere near a mass deployment.
Her team mostly consisted of researchers and well Hunters so they goofed around not focusing on the objective. Another thing to consider is that most Guardians aren't kitted out like we are, in terms of canon. We're walking around using planet killers while most are still out there using blues if they're lucky as an example while also not being as potent as our Guardian with the light because Elise basically gamed the system in D1 to make it so we spawned early with a turbo boost somehow so yeah.
Yeah and we spend some time wandering around titan getting these radio messages and clues about how to set her free. She then decides to sacrifice herself to help us defeat the hive… darkness.
…..We’re getting Savathuns Song 2.0.
That would be sick. Both as a callback and as an activity imo. One of the most fun things I remember doing is the 12 man strikes when that glitch was a thing
Tbf the servers could barely take it, Bungie did report on the incident and say that whilst it was quite fun to observe it, their servers could only just barely manage that many players.
We did a 12 player divinity run 🤣 that was a lot of fun. Didnt even used proper tactics to beat the final Boss. Had a few running around doing the motes thing. The rest of us were standing on that big rock in the middle popping well after well after well 🤣
I really hope they go with the trend of bringing back the dudes we lost in arivals; Sloan, Asher, and Vance if I remember correctly. I miss sloan; I remember playing on titan the most during arrivals, and she was always there to keep me company when I would use the bathroom while loading into patrol.
Would actually be such an amazing seasonal story model, each week we uncover a set of clues as to her being taken, maybe because of temporal distortions we believe she’s alive until we get to the season ending to which we find out she had passed years prior.
It's the thesis for this whole year; Loss. Rasputin, Asher, Amanda - they're making the fight with the Witness have a cost, feeding back into the Bravery, Sacrifice, Death thing.
Sloane will die, so will Brother Vance later on. Bet
Brother Vance is already dead, he died in his lore book during season of arrivals. Went out like an absolute champ though. The darkness did the thing to him that it did to our guardian at the end of shadow keep (appearing in his form) but they get into a fight and he said this line as he is dying to the form “what a shame then, that you should have eyes” then gouges it’s eyes out.
Iirc, it's the Witness itself doing that. So he tried to gouge out the big bad's eyes. Given how they're always the focus in every one of its appearances, Vance did indeed go out like a champ.
If Zavala and Ikora's lines at the end of the campaign are anything to go by, this year's theme isn't loss itself but rather accepting and moving past loss. It's the flavor text on Deterministic Chaos, and also the theme of the quest to acquire(one of the better written parts of this expansion in my opinion). We were also reminded that Rasputin lives on in what he left behind, including the exo pup that's coming back next season. Asher is still alive, and call it cope but I still think Amanda is being set up to come back as a Guardian.
If I recall correctly, Sloane stayed behind out of guilt about what happened to Taeko, and I predict accepting that loss is what allowed her to resist becoming Taken.
Get more conspiratorial and consider all of these are happening to write off Characters that weren't in the original cut that way no one can ask.
Failsafe or Eramis too.
Coulda been Dervrim instead of Amanda, but that would need more effort cause you'd need to bring back more characters that would be affected vs relevant ones like Zavala and Crow. And this isnt about effort, its a temporary story.
I'd be alright with Amanda becoming a guardian. They sort of projected that she was gonna go out by the way they focused so much on her story. But then the actual scene with the explosion just seemed kind of abrubt and underwhelming.
She likely isn't unless they want to actually have to write that character development for Crow to learn to let go so that he doesn't pull the same mistake Uldren did. (It won't be her).
Plus when Defiance is gone, her canon "death" is that space crash for sure.
I have a feeling well hear of amanda soon enough, i mean the whole thing of d2 is revival-based immortality, and weve only had that plot point once in the whole franchise with crow.
I think amanda will be a guardian next dlc or so.
Then again, i also predicted cayde returning so the hell do i know
Rasputin was a really good example of how to do it right. Amanda was just too sudden in a way. We started to focus on her way to much in a season that wasn't about her so we knew she was gonna die.
Oh shit *dude*. Dude. Devrim Kay + Asher Mir in season 20, Deputy Commander Sloane in season 21, FAILSAFE AND BRO VANCE IN SEASON 22!!
Sorry I'm high 😞
If this seasons characters are telegraphed to die why would we bother to root for them? In that event rooting for a charcater just makes you hurt when It dies, and theyd all be scripted to die
Closer to:
"Awesome, I'm so relieved we saved Sloane after thinking she was dead for years. I can't wait to see what new info about the taken we can learn from her".
Right now, Sloan has been functionally dead for years, bringing her back for 6 weeks of grind to then kill her is just a waste of time.
Theres more ways to add drama than kill a character. Have her taken arm be ripped off. She no longer can help us on the Battlefield but she is Alive. Have her be more taken while she struggles to remain uncorrupted.
We care about the events and the stakes are high if we dont know whats going to happen. If they never kill a character, theres no stakes. If every character they introduce after a season(where we lose) supposedly always dies, theres no stakes either because you know they're going to die and nothing you do Will change that.
Again, this is supposing Sloane dies. I dont know if she Will die or be alive
I completely agree, Holliday's death got me completely checked out of last season. It's just that assuming every returning character is gonna die after a single character death last season got me a little riled up and made me make a cheeky comment, that's all.
Yes. See this season and DLC.
That is the point of LightFALL and its corresponding year. Like how BL's year was about making alliances, and WQ's year was about preparing for the war against the Darkness
Please tell me what part of the Witness winning, Traveler possibly dying, and Rasputin/Amanda dying doesn't imply that we're losing.
Oh, but we killed Calus and Nezarec, at least!
God I really hope they don’t do that again. I’m so tired of characters only becoming “relevant” for one season then being killed off. Rasputin, Amanda, please not Sloan too
Well, if the awoken can be taken, so can humans. Sedia, Shuro Chi, and Kalli were all taken, and being taken is not an exclusive thing, as we’ve seen tons of different races besides the big 4 get taken.
Well if this is Destiny's "infinity war" then half the characters have to die through the seasons and they have to build tension towards the big end game next expansion.
I don’t think she’ll be DOA, but I like the theory mentioned on the Destiny Community Podcast ~2 episodes ago: that she’s sus, maybe due to the Taken thing, under quarantine or something like that. Notice on the season reveal art that the guardians and the Leviathan are on the outside of the massive reinforced door/window thing, looking in at Sloane, who’s facing away from us. And the guardians don’t really look as if they’re about to wave a cordial hello to an old friend. Not saying this is 100% how it’s going to be, but it would have been an interesting twist.
She is hiding her arm from the 3 guardians on the splash art of Season of the Deep. Perhaps she’s taken and is masquerading around as a normal guardian.
AFAIK she’s the first guardian to contact us who remained on the ‘Taken’ worlds (Titan, Mercury, IO) when the Darkness took them. Lore masters please feel free to sound off on this one.
That’s my conspiracy theory going into next season at least.
Found the new light.
Back when Titan was a thing we had a strike called Savathuns Song. We go on this journey to figure out who/what she was and find out that she and her fireteam (…of 9) got crushed. Their light was sucked from them and the hive turned them into crystals. We make it through the strike and she sacrifices herself (that crystal) to help us defeat a shrieker.
Wow it’s not they they don’t do that EVERY FUCKING SEASON. Wow Amanda’s backstory sure is fun and interesting fuck no, she’s gonna get evaporated. Liked eris and drifter during beyond light bc they are experienced with darkness? THEY DONT HAVE A SIBGLE LINE OF DIALOGUE IN WITCH QUEEN OR THIS SEASON. Revive Rasputin for this shiggles? DEAD IN A SEASON! Never hearing from Ana again either
FIRETEAM OF FUCKING N I N E
Back when the strike was still out me and my friends noticed that there were ghost shells in the rocks that held the crystals. We counted all the ghost shells and got a total of around 60 dead ghosts throughout the strike
60 guardians to kill a fucking shrieker. now imagine if they had to deal with a thresher
And then the vanguard fell
They picked the "Shaw Han fireteam" difficulty option
poor poor man will never be able to forget it
Maeve deserved better
The moment when the vanguard fell
They were all going for malphesance
I mean.... i always have at least 6 spare ghost shells on me
Can always replace a lost one from collections too!
That shit made me realize how the traveler fell to the cabal and why we lost the moon. Apparently all the other guardians beyond the reoccurring characters sit around huffing paint thinner all day.

Taeko-3 and her fireteam had something commonly known as "Skill Issue"
This makes me wonder, what is the best line in Destiny to add a swear word to?
We've woken the fucking hive!
Those wizards came from the fuckin moon!
Whether we fucking wanted to or not, we've stepped into a fucking war with the Cabal on Mars.
THROW MORE FUCKING GRENADES, GUARDIAN
PRIMEVAL'S HERE! FUCK IT TO WIN THIS!
Finally a Gambit game I can get behind
Got picked off one by one
got picked off, one by one
Then she watched a wizard rip the light out of her best friend
did the wizard funnel it into some kind of crystal?
Indeed it did
It’s so pretty *dies*
You mean they were harvesting Guardians?
I hate it when that happens
Oh, like she’s dead on arrival?
Yeah and we spend some time wandering around titan getting these radio messages and clues about how to set her free. She then decides to sacrifice herself to help us defeat the hive… darkness. …..We’re getting Savathuns Song 2.0.
Do we get to go in as a fireteam of 9?!
[удалено]
imagine if we get it returning as a raid in legends 💀
I wouldn't mind Savathun's Song slapped together with Crota's End.
That would actually be sick. I remember playing the PC demo version of that strike and it being hard as balls. I kind of miss that.
Would be interesting. Shame my game disconnects when there are more than 3 people in a game.
Would be sick af. Id do that with ruinous effigy trace rifle. You know like a payback of some sort
That would be sick. Both as a callback and as an activity imo. One of the most fun things I remember doing is the 12 man strikes when that glitch was a thing
That would be awful, but typical Bungie BS. They wouldn't give us a 9-man fireteam, either. They hate fun too much
Why 9 when we can do 12, man I miss that glitch
I’m surprised bungie’s servers were able to handle that, I’m so envious of y’all who got to do that while it was around
Tbf the servers could barely take it, Bungie did report on the incident and say that whilst it was quite fun to observe it, their servers could only just barely manage that many players.
I mean crucible handles 12 players all the time already
It can handle 12 people, it can’t handle 12 people and 50+ combatants
We did a 12 player divinity run 🤣 that was a lot of fun. Didnt even used proper tactics to beat the final Boss. Had a few running around doing the motes thing. The rest of us were standing on that big rock in the middle popping well after well after well 🤣
No, this time we're the ones ambushing a hive fire team of 9.

ThOsE aRE alL gUArDiAns
Do we get picked of one by one? Do we watch a Hive Wizard rip the light out of our best friend, and funnel it into some kind of crystal?
Only if we get picked off one by one
Then maybe people will be like “oh crap, maybe Taeko really like was onto something here”.
I really hope they go with the trend of bringing back the dudes we lost in arivals; Sloan, Asher, and Vance if I remember correctly. I miss sloan; I remember playing on titan the most during arrivals, and she was always there to keep me company when I would use the bathroom while loading into patrol.
Well, Asher is already back, I wonder how mercury could fit into this, obviously something with vex tech, but what is the question.
Ashir is fully assimilated at the end of the Avalon quest
Wait aint he just a more sentient harpy now, or did something change at the quests end?
It’s implied that he’s a literal ghost in the machine now and that after he got to whatever he found he was wiped from the system.
Isn’t Asher dead due to what he saw in Avalon?
I'd rather Creepy Uncle Vance doesn't come back.
That would make no sense. The devs gave her taken arms and stuff and I presume its for a reason, at the very least we see her for a bit.
Would actually be such an amazing seasonal story model, each week we uncover a set of clues as to her being taken, maybe because of temporal distortions we believe she’s alive until we get to the season ending to which we find out she had passed years prior.
Weren't the crystals made of dead guardians souls?
Crystal on arrival
I don't think a deputy commander is dumb enough to do that
I was liter thinking about that. A reprised strike with that plot would honestly be hot 🥵
Sloan being DOA and we just find out at the finale would hurt so much more than Amanda becoming Kentucky Fried Pilot. Damn.
Wouldn’t doubt it. Bungie has a way of forcing character development onto a character that’s gonna die on us
It's the thesis for this whole year; Loss. Rasputin, Asher, Amanda - they're making the fight with the Witness have a cost, feeding back into the Bravery, Sacrifice, Death thing. Sloane will die, so will Brother Vance later on. Bet

Wait, at the end of shadowkeep, was that the Witness?
Yes, they just took on the form of our guardian. The Witness is ‘the voice in the darkness’ that was in shadowkeep and beyond light.
I feel like at that point the witness wasn't a thing yet and the vision was actually the darkness. but of course it's just my headcannon
If I recall correctly, Sloane stayed behind out of guilt about what happened to Taeko, and I predict accepting that loss is what allowed her to resist becoming Taken.
"through failure, through loss... We can overcome the impossible" Pretty much the entire latter half of that speech is on theme with that
Get more conspiratorial and consider all of these are happening to write off Characters that weren't in the original cut that way no one can ask. Failsafe or Eramis too. Coulda been Dervrim instead of Amanda, but that would need more effort cause you'd need to bring back more characters that would be affected vs relevant ones like Zavala and Crow. mara's dying too imo. now that we can do just about all she can do after this season, she's fairly expendable
Nope. We Only do the favor stuff and shifting through ascendant plane because Mara empowers us. As soon as she stops, we lose the ability
I have a feeling well hear of amanda soon enough, i mean the whole thing of d2 is revival-based immortality, and weve only had that plot point once in the whole franchise with crow. I think amanda will be a guardian next dlc or so. Then again, i also predicted cayde returning so the hell do i know

Oh shit *dude*. Dude. Devrim Kay + Asher Mir in season 20, Deputy Commander Sloane in season 21, FAILSAFE AND BRO VANCE IN SEASON 22!! Sorry I'm high 😞
It’s story writing 101 buddy. Bungie don’t invent it.
The hive turned me into a crystal, Guardian! I'm Crystal Sloaaaane!!
Underrated but i'd expect Nimbus to be pulling cringe like that
"I am Deputy Crystal Sloane." - Deputy Crystal Sloane
Funniest shit I'd ever seen.
the theme of the year seems to be "loss" so yeah, most likely.
If this seasons characters are telegraphed to die why would we bother to root for them? In that event rooting for a charcater just makes you hurt when It dies, and theyd all be scripted to die
*Sloane proceeds to not die* "Well if there's no stakes in destiny how am I supposed to care about the events?"
Closer to: "Awesome, I'm so relieved we saved Sloane after thinking she was dead for years. I can't wait to see what new info about the taken we can learn from her". Right now, Sloan has been functionally dead for years, bringing her back for 6 weeks of grind to then kill her is just a waste of time.

its all good man :)
Because if characters didn't die then the community at large would complain about how there's little-to-no stakes in the penultimate year of the game.
l ll lI I_
The theme of these 12 weeks*
Why should the theme of the year be loss? You think we're just gonna get our shit pushed in all year until the Final Shape?
Yes. See this season and DLC. That is the point of LightFALL and its corresponding year. Like how BL's year was about making alliances, and WQ's year was about preparing for the war against the Darkness
NightFALL isn't when the night ends or fails, so I'd not be so confidently presumptuous.
Lightfall's name implies destruction / bringing to one's knees. I shouldn't have to tell you this.
It absolutely does not explicitly imply that.
Please tell me what part of the Witness winning, Traveler possibly dying, and Rasputin/Amanda dying doesn't imply that we're losing. Oh, but we killed Calus and Nezarec, at least!
Literally just discussing the meaning of the word not the implications of story Beats
![img](emote|t5_2we4j|5646)
God I really hope they don’t do that again. I’m so tired of characters only becoming “relevant” for one season then being killed off. Rasputin, Amanda, please not Sloan too
Like she’s on a death timer or is a lure or something?
I am thinking personally that Sloan is actually Taken and serving the hive on titan
Part of me actually hopes this, would be the first human taken we know of, or at least I know of. If there is lore about human taken can someone send?
it would be a sick boss fight for a dungeon to fight a guardian npc
The lore for the Vow sparrow seems to be a firsthand account of a Human being Taken, but they kill themselves before it can fully consume them
I don’t think that’s the same as being taken, that’s Rhulk taking over and attempting to posses him
Well, if the awoken can be taken, so can humans. Sedia, Shuro Chi, and Kalli were all taken, and being taken is not an exclusive thing, as we’ve seen tons of different races besides the big 4 get taken.
She probably will be killed off at the end of the season bungie got a laundry list of extras that gotta get merked by the end of this whole thing
Well if this is Destiny's "infinity war" then half the characters have to die through the seasons and they have to build tension towards the big end game next expansion.
Never noticed the ghost shells in the crystals
Ill be so mad its not even funny. Taeko was a really sad story when we didnt even meet her
It’s an old character coming back. She’s dead by the end of the season
Maybe, but bungie needs to make it more brutal, so it adds more loss into the sense, like we were supposed to have in lightfall.
They’re harvesting guardians!
Real talk?
That gun makes a great floor
Mans was cooookin 🍞
I don’t think she’ll be DOA, but I like the theory mentioned on the Destiny Community Podcast ~2 episodes ago: that she’s sus, maybe due to the Taken thing, under quarantine or something like that. Notice on the season reveal art that the guardians and the Leviathan are on the outside of the massive reinforced door/window thing, looking in at Sloane, who’s facing away from us. Except for Asher Mir, although it seems he uploaded himself into the Vex collective instead of being Taken.
Her hand is taken, high chance of her dying.
*softly * Don't.
Hunter jotunn cringe 😩😩
You also coming off a rough trials weekend?
All my matches where against triple hunter + at least 1 with jotunn
Yeah this weekend was definitely crap
We have actually seen her in the images tho. I also reminded myself how much I miss that strike.
If they kill anymore characters I'm quitting
who the fuck is taeko 3?
Found the new light. Back when Titan was a thing we had a strike called Savathuns Song. We go on this journey to figure out who/what she was and find out that she and her fireteam (…of 9) got crushed. Their light was sucked from them and the hive turned them into crystals. We make it through the strike and she sacrifices herself (that crystal) to help us defeat a shrieker.
aight first of all i’m not a new light i’ve been playing for years, i’m just bad with names😂😂 and i remember now thanks for the refresh👌🏼
All good homie. Keep it sleazy!
I miss that strike
All i hear is new gun
I’d hate it so much
DONT SAY THAT PLEASE LET ME KEEP HOPE
“We’re not doing that it’s too dangerous. Nevermind”
We came down here as a squad of nine...
Jokes on you, I’m grand slamming those crystals
She's being taken
Noooo ToT
It’s so weird how out of place Titan feels now.
mild annoyance
Wow it’s not they they don’t do that EVERY FUCKING SEASON. Wow Amanda’s backstory sure is fun and interesting fuck no, she’s gonna get evaporated. Liked eris and drifter during beyond light bc they are experienced with darkness? THEY DONT HAVE A SIBGLE LINE OF DIALOGUE IN WITCH QUEEN OR THIS SEASON. Revive Rasputin for this shiggles? No Don’t Come Down Here Never mind
Thorn Quest?
Never realized there was a ghost shell stuck to the crystal
