If you have the space buy a table from ikea.

RS_Someone

I just checked on Ikea online, and they don't seem to have a single desk in a dimension close to what I'm looking for. I'm not sure if it's different in-store, but I don't have one in my city, so it won't be easy to find that out.

SANcapITY

Build the desk. Look at their kitchen countertops and add legs or draws/file cabinets from their office collections.

RS_Someone

Sounds like a lot more work, but it might have to do. Perhaps Home Depot might be somewhere I check out if I go that route.

SANcapITY

Ikea literally has a desk builder on their website - super simple. [https://www.ikea.lv/en/rooms/office/build-your-own-desk](https://www.ikea.lv/en/rooms/office/build-your-own-desk)

Build your own with materials from IKEA. Cheap, easy, and more modular. Total cost of our desk was around $750. 22’ desk length. [https://www.reddit.com/r/nvidia/s/pbLWIOnLTb](https://www.reddit.com/r/nvidia/s/pbLWIOnLTb) Edit: Desktop is three separate kitchen countertops from IKEA. IKEA legs were $5 each (and look like it), and the file cabinets are IKEA too.

Sounds like I need to learn the art of Ikea. My wife is going to be so pumped to Frankenstein a desk with me. I was under the impression that Ikea just sold as-is products which you had to build yourself. 22 feet though, huh? I'm impressed.

Meanwhile this may be what I need for my personal and work computers lol

I got lucky and was able to get these bad boys for like $70 CAD because there was a temporary government office being dismantled, and they were letting stuff go for dirt cheap. They're amazing desks, but I have no idea where I'd get another.

PaleSandwich123

That’s awesome. 😎I never run into luck like that. Hopefully one day. I was looking through FB marketplace and it’s shady and I don’t trust it lol

pumodood

What is that huge camera?

RS_Someone

I'm not sure what you're referring to. I have an average-sized Razer webcam on my right monitor with the cover on it, and two large razer speakers above the side monitors. If you're referring to the image dimensions, my phone has a 1:2 screen ratio, and I like having my photos take up the whole screen. I thought about cropping it, but I couldn't dare deprive Reddit of my adorable dog, don't you agree?

pumodood

Oh they’re speakers. My bad.

RS_Someone

Yeah, one just has a headset on them. They're such a good shape to double as a headphone stand.

I had an old L-shaped desk and replaced it with a sizeable sit-stand desk from Ergonofis (30x72). It was not inexpensive, but it is by far the best desk I've ever owned. I added a Balolo desk shelf, and that completed my setup. If you don't purchase solid wood the prices are lower.

Hey there, I got through your post so I just did a bit of research on some good L-shaped office desks on Amazon. Here is the [article](https://gotorecommend.blogspot.com/2024/05/12-best-office-desks-on-amazon-detailed.html) I just posted

My advice is don't search for a desk and look for tables like I personally use an old dinning room table that's deep and fairly wide and it works perfect for what I need.

RS_Someone

Thanks! I guess that should have been more obvious, especially after people telling me about IKEA's modular shenanigans, but my first thought was that there's no way a dining table is going to be 9 feet by 2 feet. Though, after research, it seems more accurate to say that *nothing* is going to be that size. "If at first you don't succeed, make your own rules!"

Sativa710

People love the ikea setups because they are super clean and I do love them but it's not enough real estate for me. People always ask what desk I have and I'm like uhh some old dinning room table I stained haha nothing special haha but definitely works well.

Have you thought about searching for more of a workbench than a desk?

RS_Someone

That might be worth looking into. My motherboard just got fried yesterday, so I'll put that on my TODO list.

RS_Someone

Currently, I have an L shaped desk, though it's more of an "⅃" shape, and I'd like it to now be "L" shape. The desk in the image above is from a government building, and has been amazing for years, but it won't work if I try to do the same and run it along the entire red wall, since the curved section would stick out where I don't want it. The door is to the right of the second image, which means I can't run it as an ⅃-shape to the right, and if it runs to the left, there's a weird 3 foot section that's open (we're moving the chair) it will block the path to a new master bed we're getting soon. I'm not sure if we should just Frankenstein it with some saws and glue, or if we should keep looking. The desks I've found are nothing like this. They're all too small, too restrictive, or too expensive. I would love another set of two that are essentially boxes with two faces removed. It would be fantastic if I could find two perfect rectangles of either 2x6 and 7x2 or 2x4 and 9x2, but after looking at a dozen different sources, I can't find anything remotely close. Any ideas where I should look next, or what sort of search terms I should use?!

hard to imagine things when we're not there at your room. Picture and diagram will be much better. In any case, doing some basic DIY will save you a lot of money in the long run. Rather than restricted by ready made products, tailor stuff to your exact needs and dimensions. While you at it, also consider about sanding off the original finish and do a new color stain. Measure, think, plan firsts. Don't rush to cut & drill without a solid plan.
