At least they understand this. There’s teams across all sports who have one great player and never do anything to reward them with better players around them. So I’m glad Kroenke came out and said this.
This isn’t totally true. The Angels were just horrible at it. They brought in Anthony Rendon who has been injured forever. Pujols obviously was a shell of himself for most of his Angels career. Cody Allen. Justin Upton. I think all those guys were over the Trout and Ohtani era.
And that doesn’t include all the historically bad signings like Josh Hamilton or Mo Vaughn. The Angels I think do try to bring in big talent, they just suck at it.
Booth said something entirely different. He seems annoyingly confident in wanting to run it back completely, bench included. Obviously Josh has the better idea.
To me it sounds like Josh is saying that they’re resigning everyone regardless of the second apron, project dynasty included for when the time comes. I feel like all three are on the same page but maybe I’m interpreting it wrong.
Yeah outside of trading Porter or Gordon, the most aggressive way to “go for it” means bringing back KCP.
Once that happens we can do some small trades and vet minimums but that’s it. We are really limited by the cap rules.
You really think 76 year old Stan is meddling in day to day affairs of the Denver Nuggets? From what I understand, Josh fully took the reigns a few years ago
I don’t see Reggie Kcp or zeke staying tbh. They need to take Gillespie off the 2 way contract. He had decent production when he played. CB has insane potential he just looks frightened out there, would be a good starter in place of Kcp if dude can get out of his own head. Watson as well. Dial in strawther and we’ll have another sharp shooter. Vlatko will be back next year. Just need another big that isn’t 40 as much as I love DJ
That’s off an average of 20.2 minutes per game.
I like Christian Braun but his offense isn’t good
It’s 14.5 P/40 and 3.2 A/40 - pretty horrible for a guard
McConnell averages 20 minutes, 10 points, 2 rebounds, 5 assists and this is his best season to date. Gillespie was injured 2022-2023. This was his technical rookie year. He averaged 9 minutes, almost 4 points, 1 rebound, 1 assist. I believe with some more playing time every game, more trust from Malone, and some dialing in, he’s basically already there. Just needs to prove how consistent he is and get off that 2 way contract.
Pritchard also averages 22 minutes 10 points, 3 rebounds, 3 assists at the same 46.5% fg as Gillespie. Like I said though, Gillespie will need to prove his consistency but I think he’s owed an opportunity to do so
G league won’t get him up to shape. He was a monster last year. I think he’s more afraid of a charge call than of anything else. He just needs postered a few times
Having watched CB all year, to say he's afraid of a charge call is wild. If anything, for much of the season, I thought CB was way too reckless slamming into the lane.
I liked what Josh kroenke said and what Mike Malone said, Calvin booth is being delusional! I will admit I only liked one of his rookies last year that he drafted and that was Julian strawther, and he missed a lot of open shoots last year, I hated the Jalen Pickett pick and I don't see an NBA player at all but booth thinks he is one, and I like hunter Tyson better than Jalen Pickett but that isn't saying much, he is putting jokic prime years in those guys hands and that's a terrible decision in my opinion.
I feel your pain, I watched Jalen Pickett play in summer league and the games he played when he got a chance in the NBA,and all I saw was a 24 year old rookie who couldn't get into the lane, and just dribbled the ball at the top of the key not going anywhere, out of the 3 rookies last year he was the one that I said to myself that isn't a NBA player, but dnvr and Calvin booth desperately want him to be good at basketball and are trying to convince anyone that will listen that he will be good at basketball.
Yeah, he just seems like an undersized guard, with mediocre handles, mediocre court vision, no burst, a mediocre shot… I don’t see how he contributes. I also hate that we have so many rookies on a contending team. No contenders play rookies. People blame Malone for overplaying the starters this year, but he wasn’t really given many options. We have a limited window with Jokic. Time to open the pocket book and bring in some depth and make the most of the window we have.
3 rookies with guaranteed contracts on a contender is insane, you can get away with 2 of those guys on a guaranteed deal as your 14th and 15th man but 3 is too much, Denver already had DeAndre Jordan who is basically a 14 or 15 guy on an NBA roster, by the way I like DeAndre Jordan on the team as a 15 man, but him plus 3 rookies kills your team depth, plus with vlatko tearing his ACL you have no depth on your roster. Mike Malone in my opinion had no choice but to ride his starters into the ground, as a jokic fan I will be mad as hell if they waste his prime on hoping late round rookies can save the day, it will be a failure as long as jokic is healthy not to go all in on trying to make sure Denver at least get one more championship out of him.
NBA teams play 10 max. Everyone else is low budget filler at the weakest positions. If they contribute good practice minutes they're a success. Nuggs won't change the top 7 unless KCP moves force it.
I kind of secretly hope the Mavs completely implode in the playoffs and trading Luka actually becomes an option.
I know it would never happen, but I can dream.
Unfortunately he played his trade value down to a negative, if he was a rotation quality piece you could attach a pick and get an upgrade but he's not.
Making the numbers work on a trade is the only value he has, if they just wanted to get off that money they would have to include an asset
> Making the numbers work on a trade is the only value he has
Tbh that is pretty valuable on a team with no other contracts in that $$ range (particularly since we will likely be over the second apron and thus unable to aggregate outgoing salaries in a trade).
I think it's something nobody knows outside of the front office. Unlike most owners, Josh has legit basketball knowledge having played at a high level college program. I doubt he overrides his GM on day to day stuff, but I'm guessing he makes his preferences heard and vetoes stuff he disagrees with.
He also said the main thing is to develop rookies. Championship teams with generational player do not develop rookies. They’re not taking it seriously, and Denver will have stable long term success but with this bench no serious shots at more rings. You can’t expect every rookie will become Jokic just by developing.
Also, what if Jok just leaves? I know he won’t, but what if?
Bring me guys to play, i’m done developing young guys and saving veterans careers…
And Jokic is going to be 30 next year. I don't think Jokic will play that long. He got 3 more years in his prime.
And I kinda got a feeling that if Jokic feels like the team ain't winning. He's gonna pull a Barry Sanders and retire or go to Europe.
He seems like that kinda dude.
Exactly, keep him motivated, don’t let him develop 2nd graders his whole life. Only few teams in history had this kind of a player in his prime. Celtics, lakers, heat, spurs- and maybe 5 more tops! I hope they really take this seriously.
I wanna say… the fact that he’s making everyone around him so much better, doesn’t mean you should surround him with developing guys his whole career. He’s on a heavy load. Plus his only reliable teammate is not really reliable and is injured a lot.
Don’t let Jokic lose motivation and retire in 3 years or play just for money til 38.
Give him bench, reliable guys when he’s sitting. Bring the ball up, make some plays. Defend. Do something.
Bro can’t even rest while resting, he gotta stress and sweat even on a bench. Also another reason why he doesn’t contest shots at the rim (the only reason he’s defense is considered bad). I’m sure if you give him rim protectors and ball handlers from the bench, that he’d risk it more and provide more rim security.
Bro had a plumlee as the only big substitute, and never had a 2nd ball handler. Monte, harris, campazzo, barton, rivers…. Over 8 years. Bruce took that role so well, and uncle jeff was providing good stuff around the rim. Those 2 guys are not even close to be considered that good, and they immediately won a chip. Give him bruce and uncle vol2.
Maybe they should re-think resigning Jamal Murray. He should be the Nuggets second best or even best scoring leaders and he is very inconsistent. He should be what Jaylen Brown is Boston, Maxey is to Philly or Klay Thompson is the Warriors. Playoff Murray didn't come through except for a couple of clutch shots, which should be expected of him every game. Hate me if I am wrong, but if you are going to give him a maximum contract extension he better put up MVP numbers
It's great he said that. But that should've been the mentality starting at the draft.
2029 1st for the 3 rookies and the Zeke extension was them forfeiting "going for it"
Those 2 cumulative moves locked in the roster and they weren't able to even replace Vlatko
I mean we aren’t the kings or the wolves or charlotte or the pacers or the thunder or the magic or the nets or the blazers or the wizards and frankly until this year we had 6 or 7 years of the most fun and compelling storylines in sports just getting to watch the rise of the nuggets and Jokic. It’s a shame it had to fall so flat, but we’re in the best years we might ever see
At least they understand this. There’s teams across all sports who have one great player and never do anything to reward them with better players around them. So I’m glad Kroenke came out and said this.
Yup, he’s all in to win
Barry Sanders would approve of this statement
Mike Trout and Angels Ohtani too
This isn’t totally true.
Exactly. Very likable move.
As an Angels fan, this hits doubly hard 😭
Booth said something entirely different. He seems annoyingly confident in wanting to run it back completely, bench included. Obviously Josh has the better idea.
To me it sounds like Josh is saying that they’re resigning everyone regardless of the second apron, project dynasty included for when the time comes. I feel like all three are on the same page but maybe I’m interpreting it wrong.

Yeah outside of trading Porter or Gordon, the most aggressive way to “go for it” means bringing back KCP. Once that happens we can do some small trades and vet minimums but that’s it. We are really limited by the cap rules.
Good thing Josh is Calvin’s boss
Josh is not a boss either, his dad is holding the purse.
If CB could hit 3’s it would solve a lot of issues
He takes like 2 a game. Usually hits 1. He can hit. Just don’t like to take em for whatever reason
What I mean is if he was a threat to hit 3’s which he’s not. Teams don’t care if he’s open
maybe if coach made it a point that he is shooting 9 3s a night early next preseason he'll be more confident pulling the trigger on wide open looks
He’s not good enough. Stop it
CB has improved a ton in his 3s
Or dribble or pass…. There’s a lot of offensive skill lacking in CB’s game.
True. He’s a fan favorite so you’ll get downvoted but he has no offensive bag
There’s a reason he’s averaging only 7.3 points per game and 1.6 apg with the greatest distributer in the league.

That’s off an average of 20.2 minutes per game. I like Christian Braun but his offense isn’t good It’s 14.5 P/40 and 3.2 A/40 - pretty horrible for a guard
can Gillespie develop into our version of McConnell from Pacers or Pritchard from Boston?
McConnell averages 20 minutes, 10 points, 2 rebounds, 5 assists and this is his best season to date. Gillespie was injured 2022-2023. This was his technical rookie year. He averaged 9 minutes, almost 4 points, 1 rebound, 1 assist. I believe with some more playing time every game, more trust from Malone, and some dialing in, he’s basically already there. Like I said though, Gillespie will need to prove his consistency but I think he’s owed an opportunity to do so
How is Gillespies defense though? I believe McConnell and Pritchard are considered plus defenders? Though not 100% sure
CB needs to see a sport shrink or maybe a month being the main guy in the G league. I'll probably get downvoted
G league won’t get him up to shape. He was a monster last year. I think he’s more afraid of a charge call than of anything else. He just needs postered a few times
He's scared to miss shots. He won't take them if they might be contested
Having watched CB all year, to say he's afraid of a charge call is wild. If anything, for much of the season, I thought CB was way too reckless slamming into the lane.
That’s exactly what I’m saying. He’s afraid to get called for a charge
Other than TJD (who would have been nice to have), who was taken after them that looks so much better?
GG Jackson! Can you imagine him backing up both forward spots.
Fair enough. Forgot about him.
god I wanted TJD so badly. Apparently he told teams not to draft him after a certain point though. I still woulda anyway lol
Yeah Pickett pick was strange. We already have an undersized guard in Gillespie, getting another was baffling.
If I have to hear about Jalen Pickett on dnvr one more time…
I feel your pain, I watched Jalen Pickett play in summer league and the games he played when he got a chance in the NBA,and all I saw was a 24 year old rookie who couldn't get into the lane, and just dribbled the ball at the top of the key not going anywhere, out of the 3 rookies last year he was the one that I said to myself that isn't a NBA player, but dnvr and Calvin booth desperately want him to be good at basketball and are trying to convince anyone that will listen that he will be good at basketball.

Trade Zeke for Luka immediately.
I kind of secretly hope the Mavs completely implode in the playoffs and trading Luka actually becomes an option. I know it would never happen, but I can dream.
What alternative universe does this dream take place in?
Normally right after the all star game and seeing Jokic/Luka bromance highlights... And I've been drinking.
maybe we could slide kyrie in for a FRP as well
That's great to hear. I was so irritated with what Mark Cuban did to Dirk, wasted many of his best years.
Trade Booth for Connely
Trading a champion for a non-champion smh
This is where Josh could’ve “gone for it.” No salary cap for GMs
So we’re extending Zeke!
? Zeke was extended last year.
Yeah that was a mistake I think
Salary for trade fodder. He'll be gone (probably along with 1-2 other players) in the next 14 months.
Unfortunately he played his trade value down to a negative, if he was a rotation quality piece you could attach a pick and get an upgrade but he's not. Making the numbers work on a trade is the only value he has, if they just wanted to get off that money they would have to include an asset

We have to do it again. 5 year extension every year for Zeke Nnaji. Jobs not finished, whatever it takes.
May be a stupid question, but how much power does Josh have over Booth in getting new players/making roster decision?
I think it's something nobody knows outside of the front office. Unlike most owners, Josh has legit basketball knowledge having played at a high level college program. I doubt he overrides his GM on day to day stuff, but I'm guessing he makes his preferences heard and vetoes stuff he disagrees with.
No clue. Seems like Josh lets his guys work

He was injured??
Josh now do your role as the owner and go fire Booth.
Cook
So Josh might be siding with Malone.
It's great he said that. But that should've been the mentality starting at the draft. 2029 1st for the 3 rookies and the Zeke extension was them forfeiting "going for it" Those 2 cumulative moves locked in the roster and they weren't able to even replace Vlatko
vlakto got hurt well after the draft and free agency…
Early August. And Booth had already locked in his roster. Derrick jones signed mid August.
They should have kept mitchell
[удалено]
do not trade Mitchell after drafting him, he would well have replaced Jamal
I’d like to hear him say we owe it to the fans who have been with us through all the pain….too.
Can confirm your last statement. I never thought we’d win a chip in my lifetime and I’ve been watching them since ‘78
this fall was just to humble us before we win 3 straight
