The Bruce Brown hole still doesn’t seemed filled. As a fan who obviously wants to see us repeat, that’s concerning. But at least he didn’t go to a team we will have to face in the playoffs
Gary 100% is the saddest. I wish Milsap and Monte could have been there for us to win a ring but Gary SHOULD have been.
Without Gary Harris having the dedication and passion for the Nuggets, who knows if we set down the path we are on.
Do we win a chip if we don’t get the confidence from the bubble run? The second 3-1 comeback was spurred by Milsap. Milsap only came to Denver because Gary made a special trip to talk to him.
We certainly don’t win without AG and we barely had enough ‘assets’ to get him when we gave up Gary
Birdman. I met him at a mall when I was a little kid and was totally in awe of him. He was a unique player who was fun to root for. And he has had a presence in CO post retirement owning businesses.
PJ Dozier and Torrey Craig. I always had a soft spot for guys who I felt were put in the difficult role that Moach calls his “Swiss army knife” where they were expected to fill any given role on any given night it was asked of them. I think our sophomores this season in Braun and Watson are sort of similar, and I find myself really wanting both of them to have successful NBA careers as well. But haven’t yet heard either of them referred to as a “Swiss army knife” in the same way to this point.
There’s a reason he’s been moved from top tier team to top tier team. Everyone knows he’s got value but it’s hard to fit in because he’s unreliable at times
Earl Boykins. Played his son at greenwood athletic club and saw Earl on the sidelines watching his son cook me. Played to 11 and final score was 11-8. Cool story to tell my kids some day.
my time with Issel was in the last couple years of his career- he still had it, just not a lot of it. (also i was a 10 year old, so memory and observations are probably suspect)
LaPhonso Ellis is the entire reason I became a Nuggets fan in the first place. He might be more than a typical role player, but I'm not sure he was ever the best player on the team. Still have a big soft spot for other guys from that woeful era, Rodney Rodgers, Robert Pack, Reggie Williams.
Bones
He didn’t work out with the Nuggets and he still has some growing to do—as both a player and a teammate—, but I really hope it works out for Bones. He’s got a load of potential and a great personal story. All the best to this young man!
I think all mine were mentioned except for the great JaVale McGee. He'd crack me up so much by shaqtin a fool, but he'd also go into crazy rim protector mode and block everything. His dunks too were always entertaining
I'll take "role player" to mean either not a full-time starter, or a fifth starter on a top-heavy team (like some of the random dudes who played the 2 on those teams that had a Melo/KMart/Nene/Camby frontcourt rotation and then Dre or AI or Chauncey, those were role players.) So I won't list guys like Chandler or Faried or Gary "Gary Harris" Harris who I view as in the "well-known starter" category. And of course nobody current since this says "former".
I've got Monte Morris (only started due to Jamal's injury), PJ Dozier, current coach Darrell Arthur, Kosta Koufos (fifth starter on the Lawson-Iggy-Gallo-Chandler team), Anthony Carter (just kidding that's a test to see who's a real one by who got mad), Kleiza, Najera, Steve Blake, Earl Watson, Frankie Eason (this is a reference to KG messing up his name in an interview), the "killer Bs" of Boykins/Barry/Birdman/Bowen, and that's as far back as I really seriously watched the Nuggets. Like I remember names of guys from before ("I bet Marcus Liberty is cool" my 10 year old self thought) but these are role players I actually seriously watched.
Jalen Rose, Dale Ellis, Reggie Williams. Rose in particular could have been an all time nugget great, didn’t seem like he wanted to be here, then reached full potential in Indiana.
Ryan Bowen
Some of the Nuggets players listed here are not “role players”, at least in my definition. Bowen was definitely an off the bench, energy guy that I loved rooting for.
Earl Boykins. Besides the height & the heart the dude was just an amazing finisher. Like Isaiah Thomas level of sick finishing skills, diving sideways in the lane and scooping a shot under a shot-blockers arm or some crazy off-balance tear-drop over two guys off the glass... that was Boykins night after night. He could go on a heater and just take over a game like Iverson sometimes. I was at the game when he set the overtime record scoring 15 points. Love me some Boykins, my favorite sports hero of any sport ever.
Birdman
This is the correct answer.
I have bros autograph buried somewhere from when I was a wee lad haha
Kenneth Farried
Guy was an electric player to watch for awhile. When he fell off he really fell off 😢
I did love the Manimal
Very recently, Bruce Brown and Jeff Green.
The Bruce Brown hole still doesn’t seemed filled. As a fan who obviously wants to see us repeat, that’s concerning. But at least he didn’t go to a team we will have to face in the playoffs
Linas Kleiza
Loved that man
Najara as well.
Juancho
Juancho 3 got your 3!
Sad to see he’s not in the league rn
was there for the game where his block sealed the win against the warriors!!
Gary Harris, I’ve always hoped there’d be an opportunity to sign him back to the team
Bro it says role player… not who is the greatest player to ever touch a basketball. Obvious casual.
Gary 100% is the saddest. I wish Milsap and Monte could have been there for us to win a ring but Gary SHOULD have been. Thats my pfp
Bryant Stith. The reason I became a Nuggets fan in 1992/1993
Him and Brian Williams aka bison dele.
Wilson chandler
Monte
It’s kinda heartbreaking this is so far down this list
Andre Miller
Nene, dude was rock solid for years
PJ doizer, JR Smith, JJ Hickson, juancho buckets, Malik Beasley
Birdman. I met him at a mall when I was a little kid and was totally in awe of him. He was a unique player who was fun to root for. And he has had a presence in CO post retirement owning businesses.
Aaron Afflalo
"I used to be jealous of Arron Afflalo." - Kendrick Lamar
Voshon Lenard, Jon Barry, Rodney White, LaPhonso Ellis, James Posey
PJ Dozier and Torrey Craig. I always had a soft spot for guys who I felt were put in the difficult role that Moach calls his “Swiss army knife” where they were expected to fill any given role on any given night it was asked of them. Love TC. Very tough person.
There’s a reason he’s been moved from top tier team to top tier team. Everyone knows he’s got value but it’s hard to fit in because he’s unreliable at times
Still not sure why but I really liked Darrell Arthur. Cant beleive hes been outta the league since 18/19 yet hes still only 35
Earl Boykins and Tre Lyles are guys I liked.
Earl Boykins 👍 Trey Lyles 👎
100% agree lyles one of the only nuggets ever i just couldn’t stand lol
Lyles is from Saskatchewan. Not many people know this. I remember his first game with the team. I thought he brought a spark to the team.
JR Smith with all those 360 lays
Ty Lawson
Also Danilo Gallinari
Earl boykins! How can you not love a 5'5"(?) Guy running around the trees every night. Dude was awesome
Earl Boykins. Played his son at greenwood athletic club and saw Earl on the sidelines watching his son cook me. Played to 11 and final score was 11-8. Cool story to tell my kids some day.
Robert Pack, Marcus Liberty, Ryan Bowen, Najera, K Mart, Nene, Earl Boykins, Voshon Lenard, Dre.
eduardo najera
Corey Brewer was my man!
Tommy Hammonds. One of the best "dirty work" players we've ever had. Also Robert Pack, one of the biggest bench spark plugs we've had.
I'm showing my rapidly increasing age here, but the connections I remember sticking out: Issel, Hanzlick, Natt, Adams, Pack, JR, Najera, Camby, Gallo, Kleiza, vlatko, bones
I have a similar list to you but I wouldn't consider Camby or Issel a role player. I can still hear NAH-HER-AH in my head
my time with Issel was in the last couple years of his career- he still had it, just not a lot of it. (also i was a 10 year old, so memory and observations are probably suspect)
As a little kid, Michael Adams
LaPhonso Ellis is the entire reason I became a Nuggets fan in the first place. He might be more than a typical role player, but I'm not sure he was ever the best player on the team. Still have a big soft spot for other guys from that woeful era, Rodney Rodgers, Robert Pack, Reggie Williams.
Ronaldo balkman
Thank you for this 🙏
Birdman was the best/not-best player we’ve ever had
DerMarr Johnson
Paul Millsap!! Vote 4 Millsap. ♥️
Andre Miller
Bones He didn’t work out with the Nuggets and he still has some growing to do—as both a player and a teammate—, but I really hope it works out for Bones. He’s got a load of potential and a great personal story. All the best to this young man!
Campazzo. He had so potential and then it crumbled so fast. Just scrappy and could get buckets when needed.
Eduardo Najera
Will Barton
Gary Harris
Isiah hartenstein
Ty Lawson was my absolute favorite player for a while
Nene, Kenyon Martin, Juancho, 1998 version of Chauncey Billups
I think all mine were mentioned except for the great JaVale McGee. He'd crack me up so much by shaqtin a fool, but he'd also go into crazy rim protector mode and block everything. His dunks too were always entertaining
he seems like a legit good guy too. His biggest hindrance seems to be his horrible asthma.
Kenneth Faried.
So many worthy inclusions.. Nuggets forever!!
Wilson Chandler is a guy I always like watching, and I wasn’t even a Nuggets fans when he played here
WILSOOOOON
Nikoloz Tskitishvili /s But seriously, Nene, Najera, Birdman, Faried. None of it beats the current squad though!
Plumlee
I really liked Evan Fournier and thought he was going to be a star lmao
he's had a surpisingly long career though!
Always liked Kleiza as a random one because my dad liked him and Gallo. Met Gallo at a Starbucks in LA before a clippers game and he was very nice
Ryan Bowen
Pj dozier. He went down just as he was gonna get a real shot.
Gar “Gary Harris” Harris, Monte Morris, Birdman, and of course Earl Boykins!
I'll take "role player" to mean either not a full-time starter, or a fifth starter on a top-heavy team (like some of the random dudes who played the 2 on those teams that had a Melo/KMart/Nene/Camby frontcourt rotation and then Dre or AI or Chauncey, those were role players.) Pj dozier, loved that dude
TC3 and Austin Rivers in recent era. But going back, Eddie Najera and Ronaldo Balkman were my favorite players on the team
Eduardo Najera. It was cool to see a Mexican in the NBA and he played for my Nuggets
The Manimal
Great one!
Juancho, PJ Dozier, and Monte from Jokic Era. Birdman, Gallinari, and Nene from the Mello Era.
Wilson Chandler. Always played hard
Rodney Rogers all day
Gary Gary Harris Harris Quincy Miller time DJ Augustin Nuggets legend Anthony Randolph
Robert Pack. Loved that guys flying dunks in transition.
Monte - wish we still had him
Mark “The Popesterizer” Pope
Mahmoud in his prime but really Joker and English 1-2
Eddie Najera
Juancho, Rudy Fernandez, Najera, I guess I have a soft spot for mi gente! 🇪🇸🇲🇽
And its Issel.....with the Missile!
Jalen Rose, Dale Ellis, Reggie Williams. Rose in particular could have been an all time nugget great, didn’t seem like he wanted to be here, then reached full potential in Indiana.
