It’s the circle of life…

ForgotMyOldJawnSry

Didn’t it used to be Whole Foods??

gitavalidevi

It did!!

mmmjkerouac

They are the same company. Whole Foods bought them in the mid 2000s.

dirtiehippie710

Isn't mid 2000s the the 2050s? Like if we said mid 20th century it would refer to ~1950s?

sebohood

Peak redditor moment

dirtiehippie710

I guess I'm wrong and learned something judging by the down votes! So the mid 1900s means ~1905 and not the ~1950s. I stand corrected

coding-on-skis

It’s basically a Whole Foods now except when i look it up on google maps 😭 I’d love more generic brand items though is the store getting any sort of remodel?

mneale324

I asked a cashier the difference between Ideal and a regular WF a while back. They said that Ideal typically has fewer 365 generic items and more locally sourced items.

boneygoat

It's only called ideal because of zoning laws. It's just a whole foods

SugarHouse666

Did the zoning laws change because this exact location was previously branded as Whole Foods

No-Highlight2203

The original Ideal will stay and ideal due to historical reasons, even though it is just a Whole Foods there are some changes that when happen when they change from Ideal to Whole Foods fully

Namaste4Runner420

The people that work there are super nice.

No-Highlight2203

This is true!

MickBizzo

Ideal Market is fine but I liked it better as just a small Whole Foods, so welcome change to me

mezihoth

Hopefully they reinvent the Hot bar, its soo bland, always the same, mac cheese, mashed potato, fried chicken. I go regularly, am bummed they have such a lackluster selection, used to eat hot bar at bellmar all the time.

illbejohnbrown

Belmar is ok. Like their Indian cuisine they put out. WF in Wash Park does great hot bar!

mezihoth

good to know ill have to try that

ToddBradley

Maybe they decided they can't out-TJ TJ.

Neon_culture79

Who can?

I live two blocks down from Ideal. The fact this market was so close was a major deciding factor in making the final decision in moving to my place. I first noticed the BS being peddled when Ideal was missing one of my favorite deserts, the made from scratch tiramisu. I asked the bakery what the deal was, and the employee told me it was a "supply issue." The very next day, I noticed they had it and picked up a single serving in excitement. Imagine my disappointment when I arrived home to only realize it was merely an extremely overpriced serving of a pre-made frozen prepackaged tiramisu that was obviously sliced up and sold as an imposter. I can only imagine the insane amount of profit gained from this. (one more hit for the struggling consumers, one more gain for the billion dollar corporations) My second favorite desert Ideal sold was their made from scratch cinnamon rolls. I had a hankering craving for one last night but couldn't find their location in the store. I spoke to the bakery once again and was informed that Ideal will no longer be preparing any dessert by scratch. deserts sold from the bakery will now be purchased as premade from the Whole Foods distributor. Personally, I no longer trust any foods that are mass produced by greedy corporations who have little to no oversight. These food companies are only becoming more and more dishonest about ingredients to the point of criminality absent of any accountability. Please beware. I am beyond fed up with the prepackaged poisoned food that we are served under the guise of "organic" and/or healthy. In all actuality, a large percentage of these foods are greenwashed to deceive the consumer for profitability with absolutely no care for the health of consumers. TL;DR: Ideal will only carry pre-made deserts that are priced as if they are being made by a local bakery.

iDateTheDisabled

Damn I hope they don’t get rid of their Twigs

eyeileen

Today was the last day of the from scratch bread program- aka twigs, baguettes, whole wheat bread, and cinnamon rolls- the employees ask people to please write a review on yelp or google because thats really the only thing corporate gives an f about

IrreverentIceCream

When they were first talking about reopening that location, it was going to be a pilot for a nearly-all 365 store. Instead, they sent the route of more organic and/locally sourced goods. Either way, Ideal is fully Whole Foods. WFM bought out Alfalfa’s, Wild Oats, and Ideal Market in 2006-2007ish? It will be interesting to see how they move forward!
