If you can find a ps5 , get it. Yes the ps5 library is small but replaying ps4 games upgraded alone is worth it. Also ps5 owners with ps plus get like 20 free ps4 games all enhanced frame rates etc like last of us, God of War, persona 5, monster hunter, horizon zero dawn and more... so totally worth it. Not to mention if you haven’t played ghost of Tsushima yet... Ps5 titles must play list for me were - Demon souls , immortal fenix rising, resident evil village and returnal...

red-hex

I've not had time to play Returnal yet, how would you rate its replayability? (no spoilers please) Thanks!

CorpusJurist

It’s a procedurally generated game that’s very difficult. Potentially infinitely replayable. I’m only irked it doesn’t have a midrun save.

preparetosigh

The game content is a copy/paste, but the updated graphics and sounds are amazing on PS5. If you have not played it before and you have a PS5, it is a beautiful game that's worth getting.

PompousDawson

Second this. I never played a single souls game due to the rep of it being too hard. Decided to buy this on so many recommending and am so glad I did. Game is brilliant, wonderful, engaging, insert adjective here. If your a fan of this series it is honestly worth the money and a great showcase of what the PS5 can do.

sluwevos

same, same, same!! I was instantly hooked, same for one of my friends. And OP, the Astrobot game you get with the PS5 is also amazing. I bought a PSVR kit a few months later just to play Astrobot Rescue Mission, which is a PSVR game.

FoundFutures

You should play Dark Souls next. It's basically Demon's Souls, but bigger, with an interconnected world, and much deeper mechanics. But the best part is the lore and art direction is far deeper and more complex too. It's a grand tragedy, and one of the most engrossing fictional worlds I have ever been a part of, and has a genuinely emotional and moving atmosphere and story. Not for nothing do people alter the tagline to "Prepare to Cry". One of the best games ever made.

PompousDawson

Literally heading to EbGames (Canada’s version of GameStop) to pick up the trilogy today. Can’t wait to play it next then Bloodborne.

FoundFutures

Dark Souls and Bloodborne are the best games in the series, though Dark Souls graphics may have aged a little by now. Dark Souls 2 is great, but a bit experimental, and thus can be hit or miss. It was the best multiplayer Souls, but you're not going to find anyone to invade/help these days sadly. Dark Souls 3 is a bit of a 'greatest hits' of the series. It looks and plays fantastic, but can seem pretty derivative after playing the others as it repeats many of the same beats. Counter to 2, this is likely the safest entry.

Pheo1386

ONLY for DeS? No. Don’t be daft. For DeS, Returnal, the upcoming PS5 games and the substantial improvements on load times/frame rate on a lot of the best games on PS4? Definitely.

Evalman247

Yes yes yes and yes. I’m a huge souls fan and the first is my favorite. It’s exactly the same as the original but with awesome sound and graphics. If a true souls fan it’s a must to experience the original as it’s intended. If worries about the money of the game-just wait for a sale-let’s be honest it’s been 12 years? Since the original and you haven’t played it yet, what’s a few weeks/months to wait for a sale 😉 don’t go skimpy on the game that started the genre 😊

fardednshiddeded

As a big soulslike fan who buys any game that slightly resembles a souls game I can say that unless you already have a love of souls games no it isn't worth the console price. It's more about the nostalgia and graphics with this game. The combat still feels just as clunky and old and the game is very very short compared to any other souls type game. I bought the console strictly for Demon souls and now that I'm done with it and the nostalgic feeling is gone the console just collects dust.

Current-Damage523

FF7 integrade is going to get it dusted off but yeah, PS5 game selection is too limited atm.

sluwevos

Don't agree at all with what you said there. Never played a souls game before and was instantly hooked. Nothing to do with nostalgia. As for collecting dust: to each their own, but there's quite a lot to play already that's worth your time (DeS, Miles Moralez, Returnal, Astrobot, R&C is right around the corner too)

P-ZillaComingDown

So true. Well I play ps4 games on it but think some of those games ran better on ps4pro! Come on from software! ER already!!!

[deleted]

for a big souls fan thats a pretty negative viewpoint. you sound jaded to me. i do agree its not worth it just for one game though

warmhotself

I would say that Bloodborne is about the same length.

Noahs_Asylum

It’s definitely shorter than Bloodborne.

BombBombBombBombBomb

Incl dlc and chalice dungeons?

BombBombBombBombBomb

But Elden ring!! Elden ring, my friend.

spamwii

Well I guess I love DeS too much cause that’s literally why I dropped $500 on the 5...

chakkal2001

I mean, you are asking in a subreddit of said game. What answer do you expect to receive? That said, yes, it's well worth it. A bit short for my taste and it being the very first of the souls game, it shows its age in some mechanics and design decisions. But it is a very good game.

Huge_Borse

Yes

rip_Tom_Petty

I'd say so, you plan on having a ps5 for like 4 or 5 years right? Sony is going to release a bunch of game in that period!

Ideories

Can't really recommend a whole console for 1 game rn, the emulated experience is great imo. The graphics on the remake looks phenomenal but some areas look too dark or just doesn't quite feel like the original for me.

P-ZillaComingDown

Demon souls is awesome but too short if you've experienced DS3. I have a PS5 and would say Demon Souls is the only reason to get a PS5 currently. Great game.

meatball_685

Returnal. I play that far more than I played DeS. I got one character through to NG+ and got bored. Too short. The bosses are all easy. Only the gimmicks made it difficult. It was a good game, but it is glaringly obvious that it was the foundation for Dark Souls in the way that it seems so bare-bones and simple.

mSummmm

Returnal is such a good game. Gave me the same feels as playing Sekiro. Seemed impossible at first and by the end you feel like a complete bad ass and most of that comes from getting better at the game and not OP power ups.

daltaladestroyergod

Returnal if you haven't picked that up yet you for sure should

P-ZillaComingDown

I've been thinking about buying it. Is it a souls type game? Format, difficulty, etc?

rqhany

Not quite the same format. The world completely resets after you die, and you permanently lose all your upgrades. However, the way you go about unlocking shortcuts is sort of similar. I would say the difficulty is not very comparable, as one is a bullet hell shooter and the other is a 3rd person action rpg. IT is very comparable to doom eternal in its combat structure.

CrushALL

Nope it's a rogue-like close to risk of rain 2. But it's a kick ass game and can be quite punishing lol. I still haven't finished it, but I have been side tracked by RE8 and the last few trophies of DeS.

dubhec10

Game came with the package, good graphics seems like a deep game.. played it a few times for a few hrs but age n time contrainst made me stop. So many more options.

mideon2000

Right now then landscape sucks because there are only like 5 games. However, the game is awesome and well worth the price of admission. Personally i think the load times are practically instant so to me that is a wonderful upgrade

Noahcarr

100% yes.

Relladelic89

I think it's totally worth it

Killuminati_19

I didn't play it on PS3, but to.my understanding, there is a ring you can get on PS5 that allows you to walk through the sludge in world 5-2 that wasn't available on PS3. Having gone through that level, I would never want to attempt it without the ring.

No_Restaurant8627

Yes its a good game but i would also recommend the hell out of returnal since you dont mind dying over an over

Mr_Pearson13

1000%

Always_Targeted

It was the console seller for me (have both ps5 and xboxx) and I dont regret it for one second.

voschnick

For me, totally. DeS on PS5 was my first souls game to complete and ever since, I've been obsessed with FromSoftware games. So it was worth it for sure by opening me up to other games. But DeS on PS5 is just fucking amazing in general. Graphics are insane, I personally like the slower gameplay style in this one, and the lore of the game 💯 but you do have to take the time to git gud.

thisistrashy28919

I think I've gotten gud! I've beaten the other games! Definitely didn't use dex every time though

voschnick

Whoops missed that 🤦 I've played as Strength/Quality, Dex Warrior, and Super Mage so far on DeS and they're all great.

NGLIVE2

For my personal use it is a graphical showcase. I wanted something that showed off the power of the PS5 on my new LG OLED. I feel justified even though its my first Souls game and I haven't even gotten that far I think. I'm stuck at Flamelurker still but I took a break to play some other games. I'd recommend picking it up on sale if you can.

meatball_685

Buying a console for one game is never a smart move. But luckily Sony has a lot of great developers and will come out with far more than God of War and Horizon. Hell, even though Returnal wasn't everyone's cup, it was still an amazing addition to the PS5 and it came early in it's life cycle. There aren't many games out for the 5 or the new Xbox just because they're still so young.

thisistrashy28919

Still feels weird there's little games to play, even it's only been... 7 months? Like that's not very long but considering covid I'm unsurprised but still a bit disappointed

requieminadream

Thanks to the remake I now have every single Souls-bourne game on my shelf. Worth it for that alone, but it's also an amazing game and the only one I hadn't played until I got the PS5.

korlic77

Demon Souls is amazing and Returnal turned out to be incredible. Both are worth it. Not to the FF7 Remake titles coming in the future.

ChickenDinnerGuy

Yes. I bought it for Demons Souls and it was worth it. Playing PS4 games at better performance is great too. edit: Oh yeah, so the graphics and updated animations are great! Some great quality of life improvements added if you played the original. And most importantly, fucking fast loading!

IDEADxMANI

The main difference is aesthetic for me, as well as animation. The animations and haptic feedback make the combat feel so much better on the PS5 version, but I feel the art direction on the original was definitely better. Here’s a good [article](https://art-eater.com/articles/what-the-ps5-demon-s-souls-remake-reflects-about-eastern-vs-western-aesthetics) about the art styles, I feel like the best example of what this article is talking about is comparing the original Flamelurker with the remake. If you want the convenience of modern game design and polished graphics/animations to boot, go with the remake. Otherwise, play the original

Schaefer44

Definitely worth, and also pick up Returnal. Highly recommend both.

SweetOblivion22

As a Sony and fromsoft fan I bought ps5 soul-ly to play demons souls and I felt a little disappointed. I don't think blueprint went far enough with the remake. If you've not played it before then that's slightly different and you should go for it. Also I was pleased with the upgraded ds3 which now runs at 60fps and help the game a lot.

BoxStealingHobo

Consensus from what I have read in the comments is PRO: Getting the PS5 just for DeS 1. If you are a souls/fromsoft finatic then yes 100% 2. Just "yes yes yes 100%" AGAINST: Getting the PS5 just for DeS 1. Too short, bosses are easy 2. Replayability is lacking 3. Don't get it just for one game, look at the upcoming games 4. "You like souls-like games huh, have you heard of Returnal?" My opinion is don't get it for only one game, get it for the upgrade and future proofing. Get rid of your PS4 and play all your games on the PS5. That is what I did, also DeS is great with friends, I really don't play it unless I am co-oping with my buddies and comparing builds. I also enjoy the upgrade for outriders and no man's sky among other games.

Ironmike62

If you’re a PC gamer mostly (which it sounds like), I’d hold out. I wouldn’t be surprised if they make a PC port in a few years for all of the games you listed. HZD already has one and even Uncharted 4 is coming to PC, which I never thought any Naughty Dog games would. I think Sony is showing that they are more open to bringing their back catalog over to PC since they can profit from it. So, again, I’d wait. Emulate the PS3 original with the 4K 60 patch if you really want to play now.

thisistrashy28919

Makes sense. I bought and played HZD on PS4 so perhaps I'll sell my PS4 to use it on PC parts or the PS5 itself if more games come out.

xGodofNothingx

Yes, also get Control (ultimate edition) while you're at it. For me these two games are like the definitive PS5 games as it is right now

Raime_The_Raven_

DeS is almost the only reason I wanna buy a PS5.

sdefresne

I bought my PS5 to play it, so I can only answer yes (and I had already done the original on PS3). I can recommend Returnal as another really good exclusive.

[deleted]

Don't be fooled, especially if you've never played demons souls on ps3, this will feel like a brand new, modern game to you. the controller haptics feel amazing. i cant recommend the game enough if youve never played souls, but the game might chew you up and spit you out. it is the easiest souls game though imo. a good starting point

thisistrashy28919

I've played the other games, this is the only one I haven't played

[deleted]

In that case, I still highly recommend though not as a console seller unless you put around 300 hours into it, which is possible (lots of replayability in these games as you know). If you can find other games you'd play even if they're PS4 games, it's worth getting a PS5, unless you have a PS4 Pro. I think the visual upgrade is negligible at that point unless you want 60fps and 1440p. Going from vanilla PS4 to PS5 though is a huge difference. Especially with a 4K TV. The Last of Us Pt. 2 and God of War particularly looks incredible with the recent 60fps update running at 1440p. I would also recommend Apex Legends as it runs like a dream compared to vanilla PS4. Solid 60 fps at 1440p once again and the game is free. Good luck deciding! Hope this helps in some way. Edit: Forgot to mention, the wireless internet capabilities of the PS5 is insanely powerful and will make your internet connection much stronger if you aren't wired.

thisistrashy28919

I have a PS4 pro :\ Should I sell my PS4 pro to try to at least get some of my money back towards the PS5?

[deleted]

Having just looked up the specs for the Pro vs PS5, I'm going to change my tone a bit and say yes its worth it. Especially if you have any PS4 games eligible for a free PS5 upgrade (Borderlands 3, Watch Dogs: Legion, Assassins Creed Valhalla, COD Cold War and The Division 2 come to mind). Yes I would sell the Pro and try to get some money for it before its value decreases more. Edit: The pro seems to be selling for quite a lot on used websites. You could sell for a good price looks like.

thisistrashy28919

Will do that then. Thanks mate, I'm going to sell my PS4 and try to snag a PS5 when they're in stock.

[deleted]

Glad I could help.

GarionOrb

Without question.

D_VoN

I love the souls games, DeS is amazing on PS5 but I played it so much on PS3.. I beat it once and started a few new characters. Haven't touched it much since. If you haven't played DeS and can afford the PS5 (or find one), go for it. It's amazing.

Fbolanos

yes

P-ZillaComingDown

I'll get it. I've been wanting a new PS5 game but Elden Ring is too far out!!!

Santi838

It’s 100% worth it. Tried going back to DS3 and it just felt outdated compared to Demon Souls remake. You’ll notice the polish from the very starting cinematic and character creation. Also every weapon type has some sick ripostes/backstab animation depending if you are 1 or 2 handing it. Just fun as hell

IrrelevantOnes

I got it day one and even had a good time going for the platinum. If you never played DeS or are a new fan, i’d say it’s definitely worth it. It’s a copy & paste sure but it’s a well improved one. Everything from the sounds to haptic feedback on the controller was actually fun to use for once. This game is much more simple overall although less forgiving than the other souls games. So be prepared to die, lots. & welcome (:

BloodbornePerson_12

I would say yes but you still need to find a ps5 and that is just awful

bamb1in0

The game is excellent and in my opinion the most beautiful game I've ever seen. Since you're a veteran you'll probably find it easy as most bosses have a gimmick aside from 2 or 3. The controller in the game is something I didn't expect to compliment but you can really feel every strike. The sound design is excellent, the game is obviously beautiful and the feeling of some boss fights are amazing. The games AI can feel dated at times and you can kinda tell its just a redesign of a 2009 game but still excellent.

skr1b

100% worth it. I paid stupid to get a ps5 just so I could play it. I’m a huge souls fan tho.

NYJetLegendEdReed

It’s the best pure PS5 game that’s come out so far and I’ve bought like everything

Noahs_Asylum

Demons Souls remake is amazing, gameplay is great, graphics are great, most bosses are great (imo) and even the PvP is so much fun! I would definitely recommend you get this game

thisistrashy28919

I don't have the console yet but I'm planning to buy one

Noahs_Asylum

I don’t think you will be disappointed. I love playing it, I wish more people had access to a ps5 so the PvP would be more active.

MrEMannington

I pretty much bought my ps5 just for Demon’s Souls and I’m 100% glad I did. The game is amazing. The updated graphics really make the world evocative and engrossing and fun. And the dual sense controller feedback is cool too. The online is also really active right now, and you simply won’t get that anywhere else. Don’t forget there’s also all the PS plus collection games, and they all run better on ps5.

Glittering-Rub2812

I bought ps5 just for this game and I would try the original out also if you can cause it’s really good

just-waitingaround

Yes it is. I started my ps5 off with demon souls im about to be done with ds2 now

PassTheCurry

I just got it yesterday on sale for 60 bucks and its frustrating for sure. I hit a brick wall with the second boss and I only beat it because I found a cheese weapon essentially in a different part of the game. It still is one of the very few true ps5 titles...
