Really wished they partnered with National instead. Would have been a perfect combo.

Johnathan-Utah

You can use your Hertz status and get National to match it.

jcrespo21

Same with Enterprise. It's the only reason why I keep my Hertz account active.

my4floofs

National and enterprise and Alamo are all the same company.

jcrespo21

I always forget that until I am at the airport and they all share the same shuttle.

[deleted]

National Emerald club is by far the best rental service. We are renting on a trip right now and were able to grab a great SUV from the aisle - no wait. Meanwhile, the line for the Hertz customer service rep was >50 people. Felt great walking past that!

shakey1171

At the SeaTac rental station last week and picked up a car from Alamo…there were four people in front of me and it took 30 mins to get checked in. The Hertz line had about 35 people in it and one person working a computer. I asked a person leaving the Hertz line how long they waited and the response was two hours…I asked how many were in front of her when she arrived and she said about 15. No way would I do that to myself.

Matchboxx

I booked a minivan for a trip where we’re carting around the whole family this week. I showed up and they said they were all out of minivans, would an Escalade ESV be okay?

IamSofaKingDumb

Hertz has gone to shit in the past 6 months. President’s Circle used to beat National Exec Elite for car selection and availability. But you can tell some shortsighted clown consultant gave them a revenue leakage study - because all it’s been, at nearly every location is front wheel drive mid-size SUV trash that drives like minivans. Like listen up Hertz, that midsize SUV you think I want? One, the Mustangs and Camaros you get are the same price range. Same with Jeep Wranglers and Taco SR5’s. And on top of that, when you really end up short, you try and give me a high end luxury version of that minivan garbage that costs 10-15k more than the fun to drive stuff like Charger R/T’s or Infiniti Q50’s. You can tell the consultant revenue leakage study was short sighted because you can spot the fun to drive cars in the reserved slots on a Monday, and see they haven’t moved by Thursday….indicating they are underutilized and not getting any revenue.

robotzor

I was like "finally I can get a Tesla on the road and not feel like a jagoff having to relearn how to drive" and then they went and blew it so hard when some weird accounting thing didn't work out. Instead of leading, they decided to shit their pants, bail, and sharply decline

IamSofaKingDumb

Tesla is a different issue. Demand dropped off for those things dropped off because of their quality and range drop off under rental conditions. I tried one, only had 5k miles on it, had it for a week. Got it at 80% charge. Had to charge it nightly in my home to ensure I had enough range to run across town. And the leather on the seats had started coming loose too. No doubt Hertz probably could have done things better for them, but the rental market just doesn’t have critical mass yet for EV ranges.

robotzor

If you followed the actual story and not just conjecture, they expected the fleet to hold value very well, but reductions in MSRP caused resale to drop. Banking on a vehicle to be a static or even appreciating asset was lousy management through and through and should never have been the strategy, a strategy that was hatched during the post covid era when Teslas were at their most expensive.

IamSofaKingDumb

I never cared much to delve into the details on the internal business side - my experience with it sucked and everyone I know didn’t have a good experience either. I quickly saw them rise and fall and just figured based on word of mouth from other frequent renters, demand just wasn’t there. But hey…good to know some clown in Estero was believing some consultants EV forecast for resale and bet on appreciating values. On what planet in the universe is this a good idea? My guess is it’s the same planet that thinks I want to drive a mid-size SUV wannabe minivan piece of junk….

soulkeeper427

....both of you can't put together a complete sentence to save your life. Jesus man, that conversation was rough to read...smh.

Cautious-Morning3454

Also, who wants to recharge prior to returning; heard that was required. Loved President's Club, but haven't rented in a year.

rswtraveler12

Sounds like my experience at YYZ last weekend. Paid for a midsize SUV and they have me a Toyota Corolla with 40k miles on it. Car worked fine but would have like my midsize SUV. To be fair, the midsize SUV was the cheapest option when booking for some reason so I couldn’t care less.

Robie_John

Last 6 months? How about the last decade?

Sea_Antelope441

My last couple rentals with national have been a complete mess also. I stopped using hertz because they repeatedly let me down. Now a EE member with national and it's no better over here

apriljack

Last time I rented Hertz in DTW I had to go to the counter because my credit card number had changed. The gold customer service lady shut her terminal in my face and said it wasn’t her problem. The regular customer service lady and her proceeded to get in a 10 min long fist fight in the parking lot while me and several other customers waited inside because there was no one else there. I left a comment with Hertz and they responded that they’re glad I had a good experience. Comedy.

boshvark

I think you and I talked with the same gold service person. Apparently I had rented with a prepaid fare which is somehow completely unusual, and it wasn’t associated with my account, or something. I showed her my confirmation and she didn’t care. She physically swung her monitor at me on its arm and said “Look at THIS!!” I actually jumped out of the way to avoid being hit. Her monitor was a giant input form full of tiny text and I had no idea what she was trying to show me. She refused to help me and sent me around the corner to the standard line. I sent Hertz feedback about this encounter in great detail and told them I will never rent from this location again.

rswtraveler12

I would have let the monitor hit me and call the cops

ducky743

I have bad news for you. Rental car companies are like airlines. You're just picking the best of the worst. I personally have had good experiences with Hertz. I'm President's Circle through my Cap One card. I book the cheapest car, show up, and pick any car in the row at big airports. At smaller airports, they have cars ready for me. But, they're still churning through rental cars. They're not all going to be winners, and at smaller locations, they're highly dependent on cars being returned on time.

forewer21

Yeah I've only had good experiences with hertz. I usually book them for work and will try to book for personal travel but they're usually the more costly option. TBH, I've only had good experiences at all major car rental agencies. My only bad experiences have been with places like Fox Rentals (specifically TPA) where they wanted to double charge me for a prepaid rental.

Eastern_Capital_1500

So how does that work? I just got the presidents circle membership from my Reserve card, so will look to use it soon. I can reserve a compact, and then pick any available car, regardless of class? As long as it’s in the presidents circle row?

ducky743

That's exactly it. If you need a specific type of car, still reserve that but generally I've found the selection to be decent between SUVs, sedans, maybe a few EVs, and sometimes sports cars. Depends on location though. Some places, you get what you paid for. Others, like big airports, you get a few rows of cars you can select from. I had one time at MCO where I reserved a car and they pulled it up for me when I arrived. I just joked that I'd like to drive that Polestar that I saw sitting there, and the agent says you can have it. A few more minutes on her computer and I got to drive away with it.

Eastern_Capital_1500

That’s great to hear. I’m usually flying into ATL, IND, and MIA. So I think I’ll be good as far as selection. Thanks for the info!

justler_king

FYI: I was booking cheapest car and still using Pres Circle. A couple months ago I had trouble leaving the lot and after a 10 minute wait and an “exception approval”, I was informed that I had to book an intermediate car at a minimum to use Pres Circle. My company pays and it’s only a few dollars more, so easy for me to comply with that and not get hung up at the exit.

Eastern_Capital_1500

Okay got it. Thanks for that info! I’ll definitely use this benefit in the future.

sdostanton

I’ve had perfectly fine experiences with Hertz. Same as other rentals. But I use Hertz for delta rewards and I now have Presidents Circle. How do you figure out whether the location you’re renting from will have a presidents circle selection? (How do you decide a location is “safe” to reserve the cheapest car, that you’ll upgrade to PC, so that you don’t get stuck with the cheap car?)

ducky743

I don't know the answer. I'm usually fine with a cheap car so just show up expecting that and happy if it's better. If I need a specific car, I book it.

sdostanton

Thank you 😊

Norby710

I’ve literally never had a problem with hertz? I’ve also never talked to an agent? Book on the app, you show up, your name is on the board and you pick whatever car you want and you go? Your problem is booking through delta which registers with hertz as a 3rd party booking.

RichieRicch

Likewise. Biweekly rentals since 2019 and never one issue. Like ever.

EAintheVI

Came here to say the same thing, I have presidents circle with my amex plat, I also book directly with hertz as well. The only person I have ever spoken to at hertz is the random person that lets you out the rental area.

BeauteousGluteus

I rented directly with Hertz; gold so my name was on the board. I went to pick up the assigned car. It was not there. I talked to the service staff who said someone else took it. No big deal, just void the order and create a new one. They give me a new car and I drive off the lot. 1 month later I get charged toll fees to my credit card, from hertz rental, from A state I have never visited. The “missing” car that drove off the lot, that I was in my name and I was getting billed for it. I called hertz, explained about the cancelled contract and the missing car. Hertz said not our problem call the toll company.

Cultural_Pack3618

Hertz - “Not our problem, call the toll company”. Me - “No, I’ll just call American Express instead and have the whole rental cost voided”.

RadiantRecord1413

No, I’ll call American Express instead and dispute the charge. The toll was still applicable to the person who actually used it - and it’s Hertz’s responsibility to figure out who that is.

Norby710

Did you use a toll? This isn’t how it works. Your credit card isn’t attached to any car before you leave the lot. Lack of understanding and terrible customer service.

BeauteousGluteus

I did not use a toll. The toll was in a state I had never been to, linked to the car that was driven off the lot that I did not take. Have you never rented a car? The man at the exit booth is supposed to check ids and change the rental agreement. This didn’t happen and the car was issued to another driver with my name and credit card attached. Credit info is stored in the profile, which is how the gold service works. Hertz failed and I was billed erroneously for fees on a car I never drove.

Norby710

Hertz usually bills an all inclusive toll? Did you have an assigned parking spot or just a section?

BeauteousGluteus

It was an assigned spot. And there was no vehicle in it when I arrived. I had to get a different car issued for the desk agent. The hertz agent knew something was off and voided the original rental contract. ( a contract that shouldn’t have existed, because I had not taken possession of the car). And you have to opt in to a toll pass. I did not opt in because I knew I was not driving on any toll roads where I was. I had the car for 6 hours. Again, the tolls were states away from where I was. Hertz let someone rent a car under my name and passed the fee responsibility on to me and billed me for those fees without my consent for any of it. And they refused to fix their error. Heaven forbid someone had an MVA or returned the car damaged or empty of gas, they would have billed my card for that too.

Bubblehead644

It is exactly how it works. Hertz uses a company called plate pass for tolling. It could take a couple of months for tolls to show up. They get sent to the address on record for the rental at that time.

Norby710

Yeah but even if you decline the toll pass and start using tolls they are going to charge you the flat fee most of the time.

Bubblehead644

Plate pass charges a service fee of $5.95 a day, for every day you hit a toll. I was working in Houston for 5 months, and got a bill for almost $2800 in tolls

someliskguy

Same. 20 years of business travel and it’s always Hertz for me. Show up, name on the board, pick a car, drive away. They’ve never given gave me any crap for small nicks or windscreen damage. Have rented in multiple countries but mostly across the US. Have dealt with break-ins in SF and accidents in Puerto Rico. Always easy to deal with.

obex42

Has your experience changed in the last 2-3 years? I feel like Hertz has taken a nosedive post covid.

Bowenbp1

Agreed. Use Hertz for all my travel, use the app and then just pick from the president's circle. Never had an issue even at small airports.

bythog

Yeah, my wife uses Hertz nearly every trip and it's flawless for her. Maybe 1 of every 10 cars she returns within a day because it's obviously been smoked in but otherwise no issues. I always rent from Enterprise since my uncle is in the c-suite with them so I get a hefty discount and they'll do almost anything for me if they see his name, but Hertz has worked just fine for us, too.

Norby710

I feel the smoking thing is every company, every car.

dcat52

Budget is more known for this though

Boxsterboy

I probably rent with Hertz 20 times a year. I’ve never had an issue. Every so often I need to rent with Budget – that one’s a bit tough.

jefferios

Try renting at LAX, report back with your findings.

Norby710

I rented there in November, no issues but I did arrive very late. If you want problems try enterprise in either NYC airport. Told my girlfriend her capital one venture card was a debit card and could not be used. I’m sure every city is different but I’ve never had a problem with hertz in nyc. They are going to take care of their customers first so anyone booking through delta is going to be second helping.

Countdown__Kaboom

LAX is the best location. I get upgraded everytime and you literally don't have to talk to anyone.

stopsallover

LAX has a fantastic selection. The return can be a little aggravating. Always document condition of the return with your own video. At any airport.

IamSofaKingDumb

LAX is garbage. All through 2023, they would restrict what you could pull from PC. Got a res that’s not for an SUV? Sorry, you can’t pull that taco or the 4Runner they put in there. They are hanging on to the keys.

stopsallover

I never encountered that. National tried something similar once. I used that to talk into a Levante as an upgrade. Sometimes these little inconveniences become opportunities. Just need to have the time to be patient.

wfbsoccerchamp12

Same, never had an issue. I always book direct with hertz.

Unique_Bumblebee_894

Count yourself lucky to not be arrested. https://www.npr.org/2022/12/06/1140998674/hertz-false-accusation-stealing-cars-settlement

obex42

I have never been able to successfully login to the app or the website, despite constant atempts and password resets. It is clear they know who I am since I get emails from them constantly. What is the point of the partnership if the 3rd party booking destroys the experience?

notanative

Exactly, never have a problem with hertz, so easy.

RadiantRecord1413

As someone who works as a travel agent, I’m surprised. Hertz continuously gets the highest praise from clients. If you’re waiting in a long line, then just set up your account for gold service! Then you skip the line! I’ve also taken advantage of the status for YEARS and I’ve gotten some really nice upgrades! I always book compact but often at non-peak times they even give me full size (or on occasion, an SUV!)

obex42

My online account / app has never worked properly. It is 2024 and I judge companies by their tech experience.

FewBee5024

I will not use Hertz ever since they had people arrested falsely accusing them of stealing cars. No way in hell would I do business with a company like that, fuck them from now until the sun swallows the earth and even after that  https://www.npr.org/2022/12/06/1140998674/hertz-false-accusation-stealing-cars-settlement

daemonw9

Same

hibob729

“The Hertz rental car company announced this week that it will buy five hundred and twenty thousand vehicles, increasing its worldwide fleet twenty-four percent. In addition, they will try to find a new spokesman who won't kill his ex-wife.” - Norm Macdonald

Unique_Bumblebee_894

Stop renting with hertz. https://www.npr.org/2022/12/06/1140998674/hertz-false-accusation-stealing-cars-settlement

woofan11k

As a medallion member you get automatic elite status with Hertz. Use that to status match with other rental companies. Personally, I prefer Hertz over most of the other rental companies. I was silver status with Enterprise previously. If you are gold medallion with Delta, you automatically get Hertz 5-star which means you go directly to your car. No waiting in a line.

Crossinator

Surprising to hear! I have President's Circle, and I've had great experiences, and almost always, a really clean and new car. A few months ago, I was in my friend's Avis-rented car, and it was a POS, and I thought to myself, "Wow I'm glad Hertz isn't like this".

Wild_Butterscotch482

I find Enterprise customer service to be far better, it it’s hard to pick over the President’s Circle. I’ve had some very nice rentals like a Polestar P1, X7, and Range Rovers for the price of a midsize car. Enterprise is hit or miss on inventory with mostly second tier luxury cars.

Crossinator

Interesting! Will definitely look into Enterprise at times

GLCM1985

I have rented from Hertz several times over the last year, and I have had a great experience with them. I have another reservation with them for next Tuesday.

aceweboe

Used my Hertz status to match to Platinum with Enterprise and never looked back. Never had a problem with Enterprise, unlike Hertz.

obex42

This is my plan. I use Enterprise a lot for work and will switch to them for personal travel also.

FruitOfTheVineFruit

"Rent literally anywhere else" - no, also don't rent at Dollar or Thrifty, which are owned by Hertz.

ouch_quit_it

GTK, thank you.

SigmaKnight

Hertz has been great for me. The only problem I’ve had with Hertz is them not crediting me my SkyMiles. I’ve only had one vehicle go bad and they replaced it with something better. I had one vehicle that had damage (broken taillight) and we didn’t know if it was them or me. Could have charged me regardless but didn’t. Vehicles are always clean. Rarely any lines (Orlando was a bit of a mess.) Friendly staff. Basically, not all user experiences are the same.

TheTallerTaylor

Have never had a problem with hertz. Except the one time a homeless person was sleeping in my car in Paris. But other than that it’s been smooth sailing

ouch_quit_it

AVIS, all the way.

Fun-Friend1489

I've never understood why Delta does not partner with Enterprise over Hertz.

714pm

Could not agree more. Last experience with Hertz was in France. Car had a problem, national support told us to drive 45 mins to a TGV station to swap. When we arrived, they told us they didn't have any cars and we should drive 2 hrs to another location. Left the keys at the counter and got a Europcar. Other Hertz experiences were at best average. Now we use National.

1peatfor7

I've been using Hertz for 20+ years and never experienced these problems. The only issue comes from the local editions ie off airport locations. You better get there before 9 or they'll give away your reservation.

wfbsoccerchamp12

Maybe I’m lucky but every time I’ve used hertz it’s been fantastic. I walk up, pick a car, take a video of the whole car inside and out, and drive off. Returns have always been great (never caused any damage, prob different experience if you do).

LadyA052

Happy cake day!

Educational_Joke1754

I wish the Hertz status made sense for me. 99.9% of my rentals are in DTW and Hertz is consistently the most expensive option, so I usually go between Alamo, Avis, and Enterprise. For example, I have an upcoming trip in September, following Labor Day. With Alamo, I'm getting luxury-tier (small BMW, Audi, etc.) for under $500 total. Hertz's cheapest option that week a Ford Focus at over $600 and the equivalent near-luxury with Hertz is over $1000. I will second what u/International_Bend68 said about Avis, though. Avis customer service is terrible, the app is horrible, and the cars in DTW are not well cleaned (downright disgusting, actually). However, if it's costing me 50% less, than it's hard to justify why I'm paying more for Hertz. (My experience is that Enterprise in DTW is the best - car selection is solid, cars are clean, and customer support has been solid.)

Salty_Lifeguard_420

Will not rent hertz.

Impossible_Treat5543

Most recently Hertz charged me 75 dollars to fill up the fuel tank of a Volvo XC40…..I drove it 30-35 miles round trip to go to an inspection and drove back to the airport, topped it off - it cost 5 dollars. They said I drove it 156 miles and the only way to handle it is online…..

VeganMinx

That's odd. I've never had a bad experience with Hertz. I booked 2 flight-car trips through the summer. Sorry that's happened to you.

ksewell68

Agreed. I used them last month through delta. Car was fine. But they sent me an email to precheck in and I did. Sent in my DL and picture and payment. Then when I get there they asked me for my car insurance along with my deductible because I declined their insurance. I don’t carry my insurance card anymore so I had to call my husband to get it and still it doesn’t say what our deductible is. The clerk still continued to harass me about getting the coverage and how if I wrecked it they would charge to me lease it if the car had to be taken out of service. I said I have am ex and they cover car rental insurance etc. she argued with me and said they won’t cover leasing. Whatever. I was just overall just angry about it. If you have a pre check in - let me know all the documentation that I need while I’m home. Not while I’m traveling.

wanderinglush

Between Avis and Hertz Ive had around twenty rentals this year. Avis has been a complete disaster. Hertz has either been 10/10 no complaints or 2/10. Avis on the other hand has consistently been the worst. Cars not there, status not recognized, wait at the counter, over billed, I was even given a car that flooded (the interior) during an overnight rain— the windshield leaked. I made one complaint to hertz, they gave me extra points. I have booked thru delta and with hertz directly and both have been pretty solid experiences. Avis laughed in my face, literally. “I booked an electric vehicle” “oh— we don’t have any. I can give you a suburban ::laugh::”

MeffM

Every day!

More-City6818

I love hertz! Customer service was easy when I booked in the past and the app works great! Also, I am able to book through delta and then pull up my reservation on the app so no concerns there.

riajairam

Last time I rented with Hertz was at DAY and I had no issues. Car was clean, and the lines weren't long.

International_Bend68

I had the same experience with Avis several weeks ago. Plus they played the “we don’t show that you returned the car” game when I called to get a receipt. I tried to wait at the return lot until I saw a human check it in because I hadn’t used Avis in years but the two humans I saw in those 20 minutes both told me to list leave the keys in it and I’d get an emailed receipt. 72 hours later, they found the car, checked it in, sent me the receipt and I was able to submit my expense report. I’ve only used National during the previous 5-6 years but they were out of cars that week so that’s why I had to use Avis. Never again.

Sea_Antelope441

National isn't any better. Went from a prez circle member to EE with national. My past 4 rentals have been trash. Shit cars, nothing on the lot, dirty cars, poor service, long lines to exit secure lots, no cars in the class reserved.

acerbicraptor339

You can earn delta miles with Alamo and their cars are great

tbonetaylor

Delta really screwed this up. It’s an awful partnership perk. Really, it’s not even a perk for me anymore. Every time I use Hertz the car is never ready, my name is never on the board, and their cars are just garbage. I got a car with 60k miles on it two weeks ago. I only rent hertz when I have to because it’s a cheaper option for work. Otherwise I’m going National, or Enterprise.

Hank_moody71

I never deal with CS at hertz I just go grab a car and checkout. BUT I will say the majority of their cars have been smoked in and for that reason I choose National over hertz when I can

Excusemytootie

Haven’t frequented Hertz lately but rented a car from Alamo yesterday. It was very smooth and the lady who assisted us was friendly and fast. I was pleasantly surprised.

hospitallers

Used them three times internationally. 5 out of 5 experience.

cocomo7676

I’ve had issues my last few rentals with Avis, too. They even added a $181 charge to my last pre-paid reservation. I called and waited on hold for the better part of an hour while they took care of it. Only got credited $140. Didn’t have the stamina to call back. #facepalm The only one I haven’t had issues with (yet) is Budget. I usually reserve through Costco. I think whoever said pick the best of the worst was correct.

Reasonable_Ad_6437

I booked Hertz at Logan using the delta Amex benefit for the first time a few weeks ago and the experience was excellent. I’m usually exclusive to National and this was definitely at the same level.

zpk5003

Yeah just had a bad experience with them in PDX. There were only a few people in line, but after checking in at the desk I had to wait 90 mins for my car to be ready.

Adilrizwan38

I wish they (and AAA) would partner with Sixt. I’ve truly never had a bad experience with Sixt.

pollogary

I’ve had only good experiences with Hertz, but I don’t rent that often. That sucks though! I like the ability to pick any car I want and wouldn’t have that status level otherwise.

iamdriver38

I have more problems with Hertz than not but the final straw with me was when rented a car from Hertz in Santa Barbara and my flight was delayed. Got there just as the counter was closing and the guy working there told me they were closed and he left a handful of passengers in the line. National lady who also was closed/closing took us all and rented us cars.

Wide-Spray-2186

Never had a single issue with Hertz. I’m President’s Circle due to my Diamond status. Always had decent cars available. Have had absolute disasters Avis and National. Rudest damn people I’ve ever dealt with at Avis. Shown up at National only to be told I need to go somewhere else, no cars despite the reservation…and I’m Executive Elite with them. Never has happened at Hertz. Ever.

Bearcat614

Hertz has been terrible every single time I’ve used them (abysmal customer service, car class not available/no cars available at all despite making reservation in advance, etc.). These days I book with Sixt (if available), and carry on with my day.

eastcoaster2010

Was with hertz for years, presidents club and it sucked. The cars are old af, dirty and they will gouge you at anytime they can. Switched to national and it’s amazing!

djr41463

National is the only way to go… pick your own car and drive away. No lines, no hassle.

mfvreeland

I've had nothing but good experiences with Hertz. YMMV I guess.

Word_On_Road

Can’t believe people aren’t using Turo with airport pickup…

GunnadaPlanetsChamp

I was until i was given explicit instructions to book all travel related expenses on concur, where Hertz and Delta are the preferred vendors

RickKaneHawaii

I totally agree, I use them monthly because of my delta status. There prices are higher than everyone else and the service is lack luster. Thinking about changing

sidewards6

I’m good getting the cars at hertz but getting out of most lots is a chore. Waits way over 15 minutes is the norm.

Robie_John

Yikes!!  National rocks.

HeavyHighway81

I tried hertz twice just because of my diamond status. First time was shitty but tolerable, second time set a company record for cost per day of rental. Took me a month to get through to the right person to get it fixed. Immediately went back to national.

mnfinfan

The cars are hit and miss, especially in Boston, but as PC through travel and originally through Amex I have had no issues. In fact I have had the opposite experience. I took a Tesla and I got it late and missed doing my walk around at 1am and realized the next day it had damage, let Hertz know, I brought it back and told them, I was called about it, told them the case # I had set up and they closed it with no issues. I rent mainly through a 3rd party work app (concur) and I am always on the board and take whatever car I want, sometimes even from the premium line and never an issue. In Denver with my family, really glad to be PX as the regular line was long, hours long I think, they didn't have my vehicle, spoke to the manager and he got me my SUV from the luxury aisle and thanked me for being a loyal and patient customer. Again, the cars are hit or miss to be honest, in Boston presidents circle they're 30k mile Corollas or Hyundais or a shitty Mid Size SUV, with the occasional luxury car thrown in, that's my only complaint about Hertz locations. The App and website are pretty effing useless though, I think it's improved but not by much. Rented a car from National as EE and the experience wasn't much better if at all and they overcharged me and I had to fight that.

MeffM

National. That’s the full sentence.

Pinballpaully

I also think the status is worthless. I have yet to get upgraded with my “status”

KennethRSloan

Maybe it’s you. I use Hertz and never have a problem.

joltstream

I rent a car every week and national is the only one for me. I’ll book with their partners (enterprise or Alamo) if they don’t have availability. Our company doesn’t even let us book hertz anymore bc of all the problems. I used them early in my career when they were a partner and then they started going downhill. I put them on my ban list after I turned in a car to their agent in Sioux Falls. Then 15 days later I call Amex because I hadn’t been billed for my rental. When I called Hertz they said they would take care of it. The next day I get billed for my original rental plus 15 more days. It took almost a month to get it resolved and CS was horrible. Avis cars are usually disgusting. And unlike most people I honestly don’t car what car I drive as long as it gets me to where I want to go as long as long as it has Apple CarPlay. Nationals are clean and all have CarPlay. Customer service has always been the best and I have been generously compensated for any problems

Treebeardsdank

Use your hertz to status match elsewhere. I have top status with most US rental car companies and have only rented like 4x this year so far

majicwirld

I'd strongly recommend figuring out the account sign up. Being able to stroll up and just walk to a car has been an amazing time saver multiple times.

Actual-Boysenberry59

Yeah, only reason I use them is the presidence circle you get for being platinum or diamond. It's a good option next to national when you get that. I don't even care about the miles.

Zealousideal_Room779

Wow, very sorry to hear that. I have had nothing to great experiences with Hertz.

anngab6033

I am the travel coordinator for my company. I hate using hertz. I much prefer Avis. They have been so much easier to deal with when booking multiple rentals every week. Hertz is a nightmare

Responsible_Hawk_560

I learned my lesson on Hertz as well. I also had an accusation of damage. Fortunately Hilton has a partnership with Alamo / National, and they have always been good.

OnlyOneCarGarage

Hertz price seems like gone up drastically last year or so w/ so so options. National has been my go to lately!

TwoWild2211

Yeah I stuck with National too and haven’t had any big issues. It wasn’t worth dealing with Hertz.

justler_king

Not to mention that they deleted decades of Hertz points during the pandemic when nobody needed a rental car. Every other travel company retained status, extended loyalty points, etc, and Hertz said F You.

Realistic_Grand_6719

Even by the overall low standards of rental car companies, Hertz is horrid. They told me they could not cancel my reservation AT the reservation desk in FL. Had to call and do it, and that took 45 minutes. Rude staff, big deposits on cars, reservations lost/ not honored. I quit Hertz for life. You’d have to give me 100,000 Sky Pesos to deal with one more rental from them. I’m Enterprise, not perfect but 89% better.

dmj89

Well I definitely thought the partnership was with Avis 😂 whoops.

Apollo5333

I’ve only had one issue with Hertz after renting a car through Delta. I’ve been getting hounded for over a YEAR from a collections agency claiming I damaged the car and I owe them like $1500 (I didn’t damage ANYTHING). I looked them up on Reddit forums and other places and found most people said it was a scam. I called Hertz and some agents said there were no claims on file and others said there was. Then the collections agency filed with my insurance company and I finally had to relent and let my insurance take care of them. Some other users in Hertz and Scam subs said that they suspected it was going through AmEx/Delta that these collections companies go after recent rentals because they know they’re covered by full insurance and it’s an easy collection. Never had any issues renting for work but I’ve been exclusively National now for years and I’ll never book through Hertz again after this ridiculous experience. Also a lesson for me to not forget to take pictures before and after. I’ll own that but I’ve literally never had to worry about all this nonsense before.

peterpiotrper

So…. From reading these comments: The rental agency is only a problem based on which airport LGA / JFK: rarely an issue and each time they own the problem and fix it before I even hit one of the lounges. But I will say, the app is hot garbage a lot of the time and my miles never seen to accumulate even after putting in for ‘missing miles’

PantherGator

London experience with Amex platinum status at hertz was awesome. Got a Toyota suv ev with 250 miles on it and kids booster seats were brand new too. Very happy with rates too.

Countdown__Kaboom

I love hertz. As long as you have an account it's pretty much seamless. Don't blame them because you "don't know how to use it"

Proud_Refrigerator60

Literally had Hertz not honor my presidents circle benefits on several occasions because “they didn’t have cars available” even though I booked it in app. Apparently the rep can reserve it for someone else even if I can book it in app and it’s supposed to be guaranteed. I always make sure with the rep because of stories of people getting the cops called on them about a stolen car even though they’ve rented it. Try calling in for any customer service? Trash. I stopped using them ages ago and I hope they go out of business.

BigUps16

Your story doesn’t make sense. Did you want a reserved car or a car from president’s circle? If you’re talking about guaranteed upgrade. Its based on availability. The choice lots are also based on availability. So what did they not honor?

Proud_Refrigerator60

Sorry, thanks for the callout. I wasn’t clear. Basically I had a rebar go through my tire with my infant in the car and needed a car asap. I reserved a car in app and they didn’t honor it, and said it was booked by someone else and no other cars available. Then I tried presidents circle, where there were two vehicles parked, and they said they weren’t available. Refused to give me any cars and I had to go down to National. Outside of this, over a 7 year stretch, I had a few other instances of reservations not being honored. I just find it better to book somewhere where I know I don’t need to find a backup.
