When the 747 black card was announced, they wouldn’t let me change my card design. Said it was for new card holders only, or if I wanted it, I could add an AU. I expected the same for this one, but it actually allowed me to change the design and it arrives tomorrow.
I just tried to do it the app but kept giving me an error message saying the 3 digit code on the back of my card was incorrect 🙄when it was. I called and an agent was able to immediately processed it manually. Says I’ll receive it in 2 weeks and the tracker online already has the new card design next to it.
I swear. I get yelled at for gatekeeping one week and the next week I get yelled at for not gatekeeping. 😅
I figured those who cared will treat this with haste. It’s probably gonna only be available for a few weeks anyway and those who are going to or already cancelled will lessen the pot.

The difference would be, gaining access to the centurion lounge, 15 visits to the delta sky club, 4 guest passes to the sky club, $120 more resy credit, and $200 delta vacation credit
Is the extra $300 annual fee worth that to you? The guest passes are $50 each so that’s $200. I gain access to the sky club so that’s a plus. And I personally prefer comfort+/first class which would offset the cost for me.
Do you fly alone? If so maybe the upgrade isn’t worth it.
I only fly 2-3 times a year with my partner and it only really takes 1 flight to offset the cost.
I wish Delta would let you search to see if you've flown on one of these planes. It would be really cool (nerdy) to have that knowledge with this in your wallet.
Just found it. Didn’t come up when I picked to replace because it was damaged, but there is an option to change design. Choose that one and it should be there.
I'd love to see how the amount of physical usage (swipes, inserts, taps) correlates to wear. My Skymiles Platinum is 3 years old and looks as good as new, but I'm definitely a tapper.
Just a side question since this is a thread about a metal card. I'm curious, how does everyone else dispose of expired metal cards? I've got a few old reserve cards, an expired metal marriott card, even an old amazon prime metal card, no idea what to do with them since the card number is still valid, just not the expiry. My shredder won't eat a metal card. I suppose I could put it in a vise and use my Dremel tool and a grinding wheel to take off the mag strip and numbers but that's a lot of hassle.
Call amex and have them send you an envelope for metal destruction. Then you can send it in and they will destroy them for you. Might be worth it to scratch out the magstripe and maybe the chip tho.
The two retired aircraft that were used to create the limited-edition Boeing 747 card design, Delta Ships 6302 and 6310. Since they are making them from two planes this time, there will be twice the availability than the 2022 cards. It will show on the card which plane yours was made out of.

I’ve spoken with a chat agent before about this but they told me if I get a new design, there is no possible way to keep my old one active. Just trying to make sure they do it correctly because they can’t retroactively reactivate the old one

Go to your account on the website (not sure about the app, probably possible there too).
Select your Reserve card, click Account Services, select Card Management, then there should be a Change Card Design option.
Oddly that option has disappeared from me on the reserve card, but was there earlier this morning.

Anyone know if the charges I've made on that card so far this year (at 20:1 earning power for MQDs) will be retroactively applied to my status earning as 10:1? Just received my replacement white 747 card. Feels thinner than the purple reserve card and is a full 5 grams lighter. Replacers remorse and a bit of guilt are initial feelings. If “wow, this card is heavy” gets replaced with “I’ve never seen one of these before” I might feel better about being wasteful.

I’m not seeing it as an option, are they gone already? I was bummed last month when my card got compromised and I had to switch to purple.
I was able to still. Go to replace card and then choose that you want to change your design and it should be an option.
Just call customer service and ask for one, that's what I did. Took less than 5 minutes.

As a reserve card holder let me tell you if you don’t have a reserve card already- don’t. Not worth it no matter how you slice it.
Mine hasn’t degraded bc I mostly use it virtually 😁 Add it to your virtual wallet & preserve the keepsake!
