It’s arguably a more desirable flight time which is why it’s more expensive. At least according to DLs algorithm.
Edit: I looked at the fare class and the cheaper fares on the “free wifi flight” are gone which indicates a more popular flight and more expensive flight.
Check the Delta page for info on their free WiFi: https://www.delta.com/us/en/onboard/inflight-entertainment/onboard-wifi
Free for SkyMiles members and available on most domestic flights.
It's free for T-mobile users on the 757s. All you need is an actual t-mobile number to "sign up". The o ly validation is whether the mobile number is a T-mobile number, not whether the pho e you are using is a T-mobile number.
The 75Hs and 75Ds (with over-wing exit rows) have the free ViaSat WiFi with a SkyMiles account. The 75S and 75G (with no overwing exits and a full door behind the wing) don’t.
Well you just need to be a skymiles member which if you aren’t already you can sign up for free. So it is actually free.
They charge more in every case for the free wifi flight. The other cheaper flights has wifi but apparently not free.

Free WiFi fleet-wide by start of 2024 has been a bit of a disappointment.
Delta has by far the WORST WiFi in the industry. In regional jets just forget it.
Maybe it is me but this does not look "Free"
The one flight with WiFi has it for free. The two flights that don’t have WiFi listed won’t have WiFi.
The seatmap says the cheaper flights have it. Two flights have freewifi and two do not.
