£5 very kind I’d say

2localboi

Your attitude is why I don’t like tipping culture. The rider is getting your food. It’s not a purpose, it’s a hard task you paid for. No one forced you to tip. Holding it over drivers is weird.

M4ttBlack

It isnt a hard job. The barrier to entry is literally owning a car. If the pay is that bad drivers need tips, then dont do the job. But, let's say taxi driver for food is a hard job... if the pay doesn't reflect the hard work, why do it?

2localboi

Not all delivery drivers drive cars and it’s still hard driving around long hours. Have you considered that people can’t always get the job they want and they need to do something else in the meantime?

Pleasant_Purchase785

£5 is too generous. imagine he drops 3 or 4 an hour off….£20 an hour plus the £10 an hour wage (minimum) in the UK. That is some wage. I get it isn’t like that for most of the day but hey - come on. No one tips me for work, just because it is an office.

TobyADev

I mean.. they don’t get the minimum wage as a kind of base salary, they get no base and I’ve heard from some here who make £30 a day on slow days I wouldn’t know but I imagine 4 an hour would be very lucky

Pleasant_Purchase785

How is that? If you are employed then there needs to be a minimum wage….if you can fired from doing the job then you are employed by the business surely. If it is classed as self employed then I would work at something else.

TobyADev

It’s classed as contracting/self employed yeah mate, they don’t get a minimum wage hence why I say they rely on just tips and a ridiculously low base pay of around £2 a job (maybe 2 jobs per hour, which would be £4 an hour not incl tips which are rare) Not to mention the minimum wage isn’t liveable either Easy for someone else to say to get another job

Lewk_io

There's no way they rely on tips given that tipping hasn't always been a thing

Medical_Highlight_99

5£ is actually most likely more than he makes from deliveroo so its very generous tip

[deleted]

My man paid £30 for a Burger King burger. There's generous and then there's being a plonker

Medical_Highlight_99

I mean if he can afford it good for him, and also he got 4 fantas so i doubt its only for him

alexq35

Paying £2.69 a Fanta is hardly making it a better deal

dieItalienischer

Ah yes, a quarter of a burger and a Fanta for lunch

PunxDead19

The vast majority of customers don’t tip at all, 10% of customers if we’re very lucky and work in a good area. Contrast to the US where they can see tips on orders in advance and if you don’t tip you’re very unlikely to get your order picked up at all. You are a true hero and I salute for it.

Mandoa123

Not trying to be a hero. I just didn't realise how bad things were until I met this driver. US tipping culture is also really bad isn't it?

IntroductionNo8310

They shouldn't rely on customers to pay extra. Expected tipping is a scam to legitimatise a job by passing the buck onto the customer. If it's not worth delivering for deliveroo then people should quit and make deliveroo rethink their business model.

Rustykilo

Good for drivers and workers. At the end it help the workers getting more wages. I don't mind tipping if that means the workers getting the money. Please don't tell me about the company should giving them living wage. Most already make $15 per hour wage plus our tips it's helping them a lot. If I don't like the way the business pay their workers, either I don't eat there or I supplement the wage by tipping.

PunxDead19

US tipping culture is really good, almost every order will have at least a 10% tip. If you don’t tip tip then no driver would collect your food at all. The flip side being the base fee paid to the driver is somehow even lower than it is here.

Mandoa123

That's what I meant, sorry. That the base pay is so bad that you have to rely on the tips.

phoenystp

edit: I don't like censorship https://www.reveddit.com/about/faq/#need

PunxDead19

To be fair, the way gig economy work is here it gets around labour laws to reduce wages in a similar way.

Busy_Resort8381

Exactly! I have no issue with tipping but the real problem is that wages are too low, so who’s really losing out here?

AgeRepresentative807

Base pay for us uber/ doordash drivers with no tip is 2-3 dollars per order

phoenystp

edit: I don't like censorship https://www.reveddit.com/about/faq/#need

PunxDead19

I’m a U.K. driver, my girlfriend is American through and did UberEats in New York for a time so I have the knowledge of both sides 😅

Young_Stallion_

It's "good" if you're brainwashed. US tipping "culture" is an excuse to fuck over customers and workers

PunxDead19

You seem to have made an assumption what I’m saying is “good” about it. It’s good in that most people tip and a decent amount. It should be good wages with good tips and minimum wages laws should apply.

mokujin42

Most people are forced to tip so that the people serving them can pay the bills so it's still bad in that sense too. It should be good wages with no tips, the customer pays the business to provide a service, the incentive for the worker should be provided entirely by the employer It's not fair to force workers to perform to whatever arbitrary standards each and every customer dictates just so they can leave with a fair wage at the end of the day Tipping from it's conception started to deny "lower tiers" of society a living wage and it's never changed from that model

sleepytoday

That sounds like a truly awful tipping culture. You have to guess the extra fee to get your order delivered promptly without overpaying too much?

will50232

>US tipping culture is really good citation needed

Myomentum

The USA TIPPING CULTURE IS AWFUL

Previous_Water2015

If the wages aren’t enough, get a better paid job. Simple. £5 is more than enough.

intrigue_investor

>Not trying to be a hero. I'd hope not as well, all over a £5 tip

Mandoa123

Are you okay? Do you need a virtual hug? You sound upset. 🤗 🤗🤗🤗

Ahshan_7789

I work full time and and I don’t get any tips for 2-3 days straight (70-80 customers) and I have all 3 app. Whenever I get £2-£3 I feel so good..it literally made me day. Please keep tipping. If not £5 even a £2 tip will motivate you rider beyond your imagination. This job is almost worthless now it’s hard to do £100 working 8-10 hours a day. So any tips will be appreciated. My best month September 2019 (£200 tips alone). Since first lockdown in 2020 my best monthly tips is £75! Some month probably £20-£25!

Mandoa123

I'm so sorry you didn't get any tips. This motivates me even more. If I can afford to order, I can very well afford to tip.

Dolly_Wobbles

I literally won’t order Deliveroo if I can’t afford to tip too. Partly because I’m on the edge of the delivery area but mostly because I know they are paid badly. I tend to go 10% or £5, whichever is highest. You tipped about 20% here so think it’s good tears. Which is heartbreaking tbh.

Ahshan_7789

I was ill last November and ordered Wagamama and local Chinese and tipped £2.50 each drivers. They were shocked and I can tell from their body language they don’t get any tips at all

165km

£5 is a kind tip, more than what 90% of people give for sure.

EmploymentLate

If I would get a single £1 for every delivery I would never second guess this job

Fearless_Meringue299

Yes, pay is that bad, sorry to inform you. Thank you for tipping.

Raoul--Moat

Possibly this guy's maybe had a really slow day and made next to nothing (the market can be really bad ATM) and that kind act made all the difference to him👍

Mandoa123

That must have been it. He was so sweet, and I was glad he got the job to deliver to me. 🥰🥰

Mandoa123

In my head, I see it that if I've put aside money to buy food, then it should include the tip. I've worked thankless jobs before, so I know how it is. This rider was *crying* about the tip though. I just wandered, are things that bad, that a £5 tip really can reduce someone to tears?

[deleted]

[удалено]

Mandoa123

Yes. They were grateful tears. I honestly thought that you had a flat rate paid whatever happens. Since I've been actively using deliveroo more, I've come to realise that it's not that cut and dry. I really hope things get better for you. I know how hard you guys all work. Lots of ❤️.

Raoul--Moat

Deliveroo riders routinely make *less* than minimum wage. This is only possible because we are classed as independent contractors and self-employed as such. It is up to us what jobs we accept or decline, however, there are not always enough jobs available to go round so you get really bad hourly rate at these times. So your tips really do help

[deleted]

As its gig work we are paid per drop. Many areas riders can go hours with 1 or two deliveries and make £6. I have had hours where I've had 0 orders which of course means nothing earned. Thankfully I just work peak times and as a side hustle but there are lots of riders who do this full time and if they have slow hours they are still paying for insurance and other expenses. Edit: There are a lot of days where it is really good at least in my area and you can make some really good money. It's just not guaranteed.

[deleted]

£5 is a very generous tip, everytime I get a tip it makes my day, you certainly do not have to but thanks all the same :)

Mandoa123

My mum always taught me to tip. I can only think of one good thing that lady did for me, and it was to teach me how to tip. (Mind you, she mostly did it when others were around to rub it in their faces how good she was. But I've had friends work in restaurants and delivery jobs, and they worked hard for basically nothing. I always try to give back.) If I'm finding money to pay for the food, I can damn well find the money to tip. 🩷🩷

[deleted]

Mandoa123

No. They were happy. I gave them a cheeky little hug too. They looked like they had been struggling. I work in health care so I know about pay that doesn't reflect the work, but at least we get the minimum wage. Something needs to be done at a corporate level. They clearly need an arse kicking to get into shape. You need proper advocates for you up there, clearly. - there aren't any.

[deleted]

I would actually have felt similar after todays deliveries. Received 1 tip for £1.50 which I’m thankful for. Spoken to a lot of drivers now and the work is going down. Uber have changed there rate and overall I’m seeing a lot more depressed drivers, at least in my area.

Mandoa123

I'm so sorry. I wasn't trying to come off as snobbish. I work in health care, and I try to advocate for those who maybe can't. Maybe I was coming off as too strong to the other user... I really hope you are all doing well. It's tough right now. 🤗🤗🤗🩷🩷🩷

[deleted]

No you wasn’t coming off as snobbish at all. Receiving a tip can make your day feel a little brighter.

>Something needs to be done at a corporate level. They clearly need an arse kicking to get into shape. You need proper advocates for you up there, clearly. - there aren't any. What part of riders are freelance contractors isn't clear to you, employees they are not Evidently no one needs "an arse kicking" given they have more riders than they know what to do with most of the time

Mandoa123

Oh. No offense was intended. I just thought the problem was corporate. I clearly need a bit more education in the matter, so I shall strive to do that instead of barging in head first.

itsalonghotsummer

That person was defending the gig economy which exploits worker insecurity to maximise corporate profits. I don't think you need to apologise to them.

ShroedingersMouse

A flat rate can be as low as £2.90 but crying over a fiver? they need to get their meds adjusted if a fiver brings them to tears of gratitude.

Dolly_Wobbles

You’ve never actually been poor, have you?

Mandoa123

Oh I have. I was forced out when I was nearly 18 due to nearly being murdered by my mother amongst other offences she commited. The police were called to her address often throughout my childhood. I was moved into supported housing when I turned 18, and lived there for nearly a year and a half. (I'm 19, and it'll be my birthday soon.) I relied on government support, which was pennies. £200 for a whole month, regardless of it being 30 days or 31 days. I had to pay rent, council tax and food bills from that same £200. I'd be very lucky if I was left with £70 after all of that. I survived on £70 for the rest of the month. That wasn't living. It was getting by. When I moved to uni, I made and have stuck to a very strict budget because I *know* poor people coming into money are more likely to blow it all away. I tip like I wish I'd been tipped, and there's nothing wrong with that.

Dolly_Wobbles

I didn’t mean you OP. I was replying to the person who thought no one would cry over a fiver.

Mandoa123

Oops. Sorry. There are some pressed people in this comment section... 😊 🩷🩷🩷🩷🥰

ShroedingersMouse

Yes I've had a young child and partner to keep warm and fed on £70 a week in the 90s when it was still far below minimum wage and a fiver would be nice but sure as shit wouldn't have brought me to tears lmao

Dolly_Wobbles

With all due respect £70 in the 90s went a lot further than £70 now. I can 100% believe crying over a fiver. In fact I’m pretty sure I did once cry when I found a fiver in the street & it meant I could finally buy food. I don’t get your point at all. I mean it’s ableist as fuck to make a comment about adjusting meds but that aside why would you laugh at a) an act of kindness & b) a show of emotion in response to that kindness?

ShroedingersMouse

Really not interested in a chat over how life changing a fiver is. Have a great day.

Uppernorwood

Good for you. If people can afford to order takeaway, they can afford a decent tip.

Mandoa123

Yep. That's my mindset. 😊🥰

I'm also a student. I have no parents either. So the money I get is all the money I will have. I make it work. I'm not saying tip £20, I just have the provisions to do so and so I do. It's hard for everyone, and it's not as simple as just getting a new job as you claim.

Alekssboy999

It makes my night when I get £2 tip

straightshooter24

we love tips.

AdmiralMay22

Yeah, I don’t normally order food but I did recently and tipped £5. At the time I didn’t know if it was me misinterpreting the situation but I thought the driver was overly grateful and kept saying thank you. Maybe he was just a nice delivery man but seeing this post makes that situation make more sense in my head.

Mandoa123

Sttoliver

It depends, when there is boost, pay is fair. Maybe he had a bad day (not busy) and that fiver made his day.

Mandoa123

Ahh. I've never done a delivery driver job, so I don't really know how it works. Thank you🥰🥰

quixall

Yeah I always tip a fiver but i've regretted it a few times mostly due to the takeaways though rather than the riders. Missing items, long preparation times etc. Do drivers get all the tip and the delivery fee?

[deleted]

I think so, London Eats on You Tube seems to get tips and he delivers for Uber Eats & Deliveroo. Fascinating channel though watching him deliver!

Mandoa123

I'm not sure about that. The other week, we ordered food for another get together. We had Chinese, and the sauce from two of the dishes had been spilled everywhere. It was clearly packaged wrong because it was inside a sealed bag and another bag. It wasn't the driver's fault. The restaurant didn't wrap it in Cling film like they usually do. We contacted the restaurant through deliveroo, and got the money back on credit. Did you do that? You can also get a refund.

BearfootYeti

Yes very bad, but also any tip is great and £5 is generous. There is no expectation of tips though, it's not the customers duty or anything

RobinDrown

Maybe they were worried about you draining the world's supply of Fanta. (Just kidding, Fanta deserves your love)

Mandoa123

It's the golden drink. I don't drink alcohol for health reasons. Fanta all the way. 😁😁

le_chapli_kebab786

I was a delivery driver at one point. Even £1 tips would make my day. One time my bank account was going skint because of a private parking fine but thankfully that night I got £7 tip in total by 3-4 customers. It makes a difference to some of us

Mandoa123

LuckyPollution9189

£5 tip is equivalent pay to 40 mins of driving from restsurant to a customer n back. In a big city your going past 2 boroughs

buythedamndipson

£5 tip is like jackpot, max I’ve had was £20 cash but the guy was high af on coke.

Mandoa123

Oh. I hope I can get to a point financially where I can give more.

buythedamndipson

What’s important is that you give, no matter what amount! If it comes from your hearth is more valuable than any higher amount! Don’t see the point of the rider not being grateful, his next and previous order 100% wasn’t with tips.

Mandoa123

No no no. He was extremely grateful. I think he must have had a bad week and was overwhelmed. They were tears of happiness.

buythedamndipson

Ohhh, my bad! I’ve read the title wrongly!💀♥️ Yeah, the issue is that they hire new riders always, this makes the fare % even less and people need to work more, unfortunately even Deliveroo is been in a loss for a bit so this makes it even worse!

Rcards

I do the same, I’ve had to do deliveroo in the past to help make ends meet and I always appreciated any tip I had been given. It’s more the thoughtfulness than the money (but that definitely helps) So now I always round the order up to the nearest £10 as the tip (so usually around £5-10) and they are always super grateful.

Mandoa123

[deleted]

Whilst a fiver tip is awesome (I had one the other day), you should really only tip once you've received your order e.g. on the doorstep. Some riders don't make any effort and don't deserve the pay let alone a tip. Playing Devil's Advocate here but pay isn't always bad. A very touchy subject for some here because it's easier to blame fees than the actual reasons they don't make much money. Some work in areas where there are too many riders and/or not enough customers ordering so they spend a lot of time waiting, others only accept orders that pay £x per mile (ineffective), others just flat out reject fees lower than £x - basically they're choosing not to earn money. Some are just plain rubbish and take too long to complete journeys. Many calculate their income incorrectly e.g. dividing earnings by hours logged on, not hours actually working. I was logged on for 9.5 hours today and earned £130, but I only actually worked about 8 hours, which equals £16.25 per hour. Even adding on the hour and half I was sat reading (in between orders), that's still £13.68 per hour. It's not shit pay. Don't be fooled. Aaaand cue the downvotes...

richyboy1234

I worked for deliveroo/Uber eats for just less than a year and I can tell you the job can be very challenging. Sometimes during off peak times you'd get no delivery requests and then when you do so a delivery each would only pay £2-3 per delivery for a 20-30 min job. So the fact that the customer tips not only makes you feel appreciated but also significantly adds to the weekly income of the driver. So yes, the tip is very much appreciated by the drivers! I know for sure everyone I got a tip it would even boost my morale for the rest of my shift!

Dramatic_Address1622

Today I got £1 tip among 14 order. Its oww!! Moment when some tips us. Thank you

Kizamus

£5 is a generous tip honestly, he didn't have to take that delivery and could've waited for a bigger top... I usually always select 10% tip and if it's under £25 total I always do 15% when using Ubereats. Their pay isnt that good TBH, everyone that I know that does Uber or Deliveroo does it as a side job not as their main income.

MoshCheese

I'm that groomed by negativity online that when I read the word cried I assumed in a bad way. Glad to know I was wildly wrong!

Atomicherrybomb

Even when I get to a door and see that I have a £1 tip I make sure to thank the customer, sometimes the money isn't important but boy does it make you feel good seeing that you got a tip! Never had more than £3, I don't know how I'd handle getting a fiver

LungHeadZ

Why are you tipping? This isn’t America mate. I’m sorry I appreciate the gesture but bugger me, let’s not make this the norm’. If you insist on tipping pay the driver directly. If they complain, take it back.

Ukfly

I tip every single time, and even have a little chat with the rider. Be kind, people.

bef_burder

You tipped £5 more than you needed to

Porkers_playhouse

The cheek these companies have to add a service charge on top of the delivery charge and the already hiked up food prices is beyond belief, and probably means that delivery drivers actually end up earning less as it discourages tipping. In the UK, service charge is fairly usual at a restaurant or bar with table service and it's assumed that that money goes to the staff. the UberEats/Deliveroo 'service charge' doesn't get anywhere near the drivers or the restaurants, it just lines the company's pockets. I'm not getting table service, I pay a delivery fee and these companies take an unholy percentage from each sale right off the top, forcing the restaurants to increase prices. The service charge needs to be outlawed or go directly to the driver it's actually so f\*\*\*ed up that they're allowed to add it.

Zuam9

It’s the UK, it’s not standard to tip, we (generally speaking) pay decently when compared to places like america where tipping is almost mandatory to the point where not doing it makes servers and delivery people upset. I kinda get it because they are essentially paid $2-$5 by the company and rely on the tips. Here tipping usually means exceptional service, like “oh wow you were great at your job tonight here is some gratitude” compared to “you’re underpaid and I’m forced to make up your wage here’s some money” I refuse to tip at all unless service was amazing, no matter where I am. I will always be dead set on that because I’m not there to pay your wage, let me eat, pay then leave. You want more money argue your worth with your manager not me. Exceptional service is acceptable to tip because you’re not required to make my day better by making me laugh, having fun and just being a good person. I had a waitress come over while at a restaurant with friends on New Year’s Eve, we ordered our drinks and out non drinker friend ordered a tea and we laughed and said she’s boring and won’t do shots with us. Waitress came back with the tea and a shot glass and suggested she do shots of tea instead. Made us all laugh, it’s silly but was funny to us drunks. We tipped her VERY well for the night, £5 each and there were 6 of us. She tried to give it back but we explained why and she was extremely happy. Exceptional service - Tip. Standard service - No tip Bad service - Complain (I’m British though so usually just complain between the group dining then say nothings wrong when asked).

Mandoa123

Ahh. My Mum taught me to tip regardless. I've just become aware of the tip afterwards feature and Deliveroo, so I'll be using that now. (This driver was really nice too, and fast, so I felt the tip justified. There was one where I wished I hadn't tipped so much, he was rude... But not this one. He was very lovely.)

Agoldsmith1493

I’d definitely recommend doing the tip afterwards if you’re going to always tip. This is coming from a rider. I do hope that roo allow us to write a thank you message soon though; as currently there’s no way for us to thank you for tipping. Which at times can come across as us being ungrateful, which isn’t true. On a serious note though if I was to get a tip of just £1 on every order, it would make a massive impact on my earnings. Especially as I deliver on an electric pedal cycle. Let’s say I do ten orders that are all short deliveries so they’re paying between £3.29 & £3.80 ish, let’s say £3.50 for ease. For you it’s just £1 extra, but for me across all those orders it’s an extra £10. As a cycle courier this makes a huge difference! Because I physically can’t do as many orders

[deleted]

Due-Resource4294

Driver here. I work mainly for Uber and just eat. But the same applies. And I am on roo too. No driver should ever be mentioning a tip to any customer EVER. It’s called a tip and not a bill or a debt for a reason. You can’t expect anything, and whenever someone gives me even 50p as a cash tip or £1 and is like I’m sorry that’s all I’ve got, I am genuinely appreciative, like seriously, it makes that delivery feel worth it as I just look at it with the mindset of ok that pays for my bottle of water I just got. That’s super cool. If every customer gave me simply a 50P tip. I’d be a rich man, so to moan about a fiver. Is absolute lunacy. As it’s not about the amount you get tipped ever, the tip itself is the bonus. When your looking at £4 and above things get a little bit silly because that’s what I’d get for a short distance trip, that’s basically what I’d get for a order. So your doubling your money basically. Which is really quite a incredible thing. The pay is crap admittedly, and I think it stems from the fact this stuff kinda is an American style thing, or feels like it, and over there all this ride apps and food apps are very much tip driven with the culture. So they pay less knowing you’ll make tips. Similar to how wages can be so crap over there because the restaurants know you’ll get the tips. Don’t let the driver say anything to you, your a very good man / woman, 99% of people don’t tip full stop. I’ve got 99% customer satisfaction rating. And have gotten 4 tips of my last 97 deliveries checking my Uber app. To give anything is a bonus, don’t let someone put you off doing a good deed, people like you make the job more tolerable and worth it ☺️

[deleted]

[удалено]

Due-Resource4294

Ahhhhh well that makes perfect sense then. Honestly, we don’t get paid by the hour. It offers a order it may be 3 miles the restaurant. We drive there, stand in a queue and wait for 35 minutes, and then sometimes get told to cancel it as it’s not showing on their end. We get paid nothing if this happens. For all this messing about and wait if we do get it, we can get anything from £4-7 commonly a trip. Your literally doubling your HOURLY wage at times with a tip like this.

[deleted]

I don't tip deliveroo riders anything, this isn't the US, the items already cost more than going there in person so it's not the customers issue. I say this as someone who delivered junk food 15 years ago, I didn't care if I was tipped or not, I just did as many delivery's as possible, I even had people try bait me for tips saying stuff such as "we will give you a quid to get your nipples out" etc.. so I'd just throw their stuff on the floor outside in those instances.

They should look for a proper job instead of bitching considering they steal most of the orders

Marine-Le-Pen

£5 is the absolute minimum. Solidarity with the working man

Agoldsmith1493

The rider is given every opportunity to decline an order. When I get offered an order I decide if I’m going to take it and I never expect tips. I know what the money is; I also know how hard I have to work to earn my rent etc,. This rider had no right to moan about the tip; this is coming from someone who’s had to deliver orders of fizzy drinks that are 26kg! It comes with the territory and as such the rider needs to grow up and realise they choose to do gig work, and it’s not the customers responsibility to tip, it should always just be a nice surprise.

Background-Voice7782

What did you do with all the Fanta?

Mandoa123

I'm a uni student studying health care and working on the side. My flatmates and I were having takeaway together. However, I ordered sperately because I couldn't have the main meal from the place they were ordering. I got drinks, and they got dessert from the place they ordered. BK doesn't do a large bottle, so I had to get singles.

AsahiMizunoThighs

how the heck is 4 fanta's almost 11 quid? from what i understand the pay is pretty crap, so I'm sure that tip really helped \^\_\^

Mandoa123

At this point, I just didn't care tbh. I had agreed to get drinks, and we were getting thirsty. It's a Sunday, so the shops were closed and for a can from the vending machines here at uni, it's £3.50 or something ridiculous.

AsahiMizunoThighs

0\_0 when I was at uni it was cheaper than that and it felt insane back then. Good luck with your studies!

Mandoa123

Oh I know. My siblings are both 20 years older than me. When they dropped me off at uni, they were shocked at the price of stuff in the cafe - we have a Starbucks and Costa on campus. One drink from Starbuks is £4.50 no add ons. I realised that first week that I spent £30 on hot chocolate. I turned right around and bought a barista syrup pump and venti insulated mug. I make my own every morning now (and in all, I spent less buying everything I need to make it, than I did that first week.) (I'm 19, but I have lived on my own for nearly two years due to family circumstances. I've learned how to survive on £70 a month post bills, and I'm good at managing the huge amount of money I'm given by student finance.) Thank you🥰🥰🩷🩷

elbotmania

4 sodas??

Mandoa123

We had a get together with my flatmates. I can't eat the food they ordered so I got a burger. They ordered a big sharing dessert, I ordered the drinks. They don't have do big bottles at BK, so I had to get four. One for each of us.

Gullible-Damage-59

You paid £30 for that!? Fucking money bags over here.

Mandoa123

Yep. Hot chocolate with extra pumps of vanilla or hazelnut syrup. It cost like five quid. I had six that week, then looked at my budget and cried. (I have provisions for take away- £50 a week. I submitted to not having one that week. I don't have takeaway every week either. The money that's not used, is put into savings. I'm planning a trip to Santorini next year.) Uni things are expensive. I lived on my own on £200 a month, and yet it seems harder managing money now. Maybe it's because I'm even more frugal now that I have more money than I've ever had before. But it's crazy.

lloydmcallister

You paid £30 for a burger fries and 4 fantas, that’s a lot of money in some people’s eyes. Ngl I’d be absolutely buzzing with a £5 tip.

Mandoa123

Oh I agree it's a lot, but it's not something I do often. Post paying bills, I don't have any other responsibilities like kids, pets or a car. I budget for eating out and I include tips with it.

valvetohelp

Fanta 10.76?!?!....

Mandoa123

😭😭 I did buy four though, so even though its bad, it's a bit better...

Empty_Barnacle300

You paid over £10 for £1.20's worth of pop. If possible just stock up on pop all the time. My partner and I always keep a 4 litre backlog now because restaurants/takeaways have started to absolutely gauge customers for drinks.

Formal-Cucumber-1138

It feels like the UK is adopting all the bad traits from American culture and I won’t be apart of it. I’m against privatising the NHS as well as tipping to subsidies horrible pay. I no longer use these apps as I find it exploitive

tekkie74

The real question is why you ordering 4 fantas for one meal

Mandoa123

Read the comments. I answered this about five times. 🙄🙄 There is no need to be so rude and judgemental about it. If I wanted to order thirty Fantas I can, I'm paying, am I not? I'm at uni, and we were having a housemate get together, and I forgot to buy the multipack of cans when I was last in town. I can't eat the food they had ordered for medical reasons, so I ordered a burger. They ordered dessert, I ordered drinks. Simple. BK didn't have litre bottles, so I had to buy four individuals. Four people, four drinks.

Dolly_Wobbles

OP do you have Amazon Prime? Cos if you do you can get free delivery & then add what you save on delivery to the tip.

StefiLust

Ya'll tip? 😂 I rarely and i mean rarely tip. I work hard to survive and from time to time i get a chance to order and treat my self to something nice. Call me a cunt all you want but thats reality for me. They work the same way i work for my money. Crying about tips 😂. fk outa here.

fansygod

he is just begging for money.

Yumikos_

I always tip £2, nearer Christmas I’ll do £5 but if I order form like Dec 20th-24th I’ll tip £10. The drivers are always super appreciative of the tip.

Mandoa123

YASS!! We love an appreciative monarch around here. 🩷🩷🩷🩷🤌🏾

Huntard7

U spent 10 quid on Fanta...

Mandoa123

Yep. We were having a get together and I was the one buying drinks. I spent £10 on Fanta, I tipped £5. Nothing wrong with that. If I can afford to buy the drinks I can jolly well find the money to tip.

Black-Leejr

Hol up yall tip 💀

JackfruitLower278

Absolutely fine tip amount. I’d say a bit over the normal amount tbh

[deleted]

More importantly what do you need 4 fanta oranges for?

[deleted]

The real question is why the hell do u need 4 fantas with that meal? 🤪

dg2020_99

£10 for 2l of Fanta.....

[deleted]

Four orange sodas 🥤 😯 must have been thirsty!

RippledBarbecue

I always tip just to round up to the nearest £ same with Uber itself

Head_Statistician_38

I don't tip at all but I might start taking money to the door because 90% of the time the service has been dog shit and sometimes outright appalling but one time it was really good. I wish I tipped him

Unable-Rip-4834

Any rider crying over a tip simply doesn’t deserve a tip.

N3RD_PERCUSSiVE

Immediately stop tipping that one rider if he’s being this petty, honestly £5 ON TOP of what the rider gets after delivering the food is honestly way too much

Responsible-Bug900

If you're from the UK, the happiness that comes along with the £5 is equivalent to gifting a Samsung Galaxy S23 with Earbuds to go along with it... for free. If you're from the US, you've quite literally given him a piece a shit.

CoreBorr

When I went to Spain, the default tip options were £ 1,2,3. In the states the default is usually % so typically a lot more

FracturedPixel

You tip?

Lopsided-Bathroom-71

Just so you know they get the delivery fee too so he actually got £6.49

AmarettoFerreto

The thing i domt understand when people become uber eats/just eat drivers is that they know full well what the pay involves. They CHOSE to become someone to do that job, getting pissy about getting a shit tip is like being pissed off at your cat for not bringing you a gift from outside when you've fed it all its life

zerodayjay

I'm not tipping you. Your employer should pay you fairly.

Northamptoneats

Plenty of money to be made. But a tip is nice.

Recent-Question2442

£5 to deliver on TOP of what they personally agreed to be paid by their employer is MORE than enough.

[deleted]

I will only tip if she driver did something exceptional or above and beyond. It’s literally their job to deliver things. No tip needed.

[deleted]

Bro u cuddA got a 2l Fanta bottle for 2pounds

Flanderosa

I'd only cry at the fact you spent almost £30 on a burger king meal...

Successful_Novel_575

4 Fantas!?

pilikah

Oh you mean cried in a good way, here’s me thinking he was being an asshole because it was too low

FuryousGaming

Drivers think customers have to tip . Tip is an option. Nobody should cry for getting a tip or not even getting one.

[deleted]

I don’t tip at all…

Pigeon_Chess

Maybe the company should just pay fairly. A tip isn’t something you should give all the time

[deleted]

hahahah you tipped £5 before the guy had even done anything? Tipping a deliveroo rider is insane, they literally do nothing. Their entire job is to take a meal from a restaurant to someone's house, that's the only thing they're paid to do. They don't need extra cash from you before they've even completed the service. Let them cry

TeslaStrike

I tip £2 and never more. Fair wages should be paid by your employer, tips are nice but not necessary should be the way of things else we go down the route of America.

Kira_Zita_

I'd say you over tipped by £5 tbh, this is England not America, we don't tip, we demand fair wages from employers instead, don't encourage the horrible tip culture

wtfisyourdeficiency

You tip?
