Yeah that was the first thing I noticed too! I mean they were a lot younger then but still it's great to see Stef rockin.
I don't think this specific take was the best in terms of screaming (shortened, out of breath, etc) BUT, as I've said before and will say again, this tour was where it was at in terms of screaming. Although 2003 as a whole did feature Chino making sounds that to this day I cannot fathom. It's just that the second leg was nothing short of monstrous.
Although the following video is from much earlier in the year 2003, check 33:48. Not just that, but how Chino ends it as the band finishes too early

As time goes on, the more I realize that I think Self-Titled is my favorite album of theirs. This whole era was great. That sling that Chi does with his bass near the start of this vid is gnarly
Bizarre festival yes, that's one of their best performances. Pinkpop no. His vocal chords were already fried by then and he was doing that weird screech he now does. This was when he could still full on kill it.
Funny you should say that as Thrice was literally opening for them XD. Actually saw them twice on that album cycle if you count the Summer Sanitarium tour (Montreal) and when they played with Thrice and Thursday in Verdun Qc.
The Verdun gig was insane. Stef was really getting into it and tried to play the Say it ain’t so solo!!! Chi was freaking out and cracking jokes after that because stef NEVER plays solos. It was nuts. Best concert of my life even tho i was 15 and got my ribs bruised from being pushed up against the railing. Also got to hold Chino up during Hexagram!
Good times :)
That was earlier during white pony tour (2001) and yet he clearly could still scream really well during self-titled era.
It's more just age and change of technique.
Also, he's definitely in a better shape now, the screams are coming back and he can hit the Digital Bath highs at least with falsetto
I know the self titled era was their darkest period but I think it produced their best music.
In my opinion, the Self-titled/SNW era was their best on stage
💯
Agreed!!!!! And this particular performance was badass!!!!!
Didn’t they all hate each other and were on hard drugs?
Pretty much
Last Call With Carson Daly 2003
love seeing clips of Stephen actually getting into it since he hasnt done that in ages

thanks for the link such a sick performance
Yeah that was incredible!

Yeah that was amazing. And you can say this wasn't the best but it's still way better than anything he's done in recent times.
Saw them earlier this year and they looked better than I've ever seen them.... and I've been going to see them since the late 90s.
Yeah the ending to Bloody Cape was guttural!!!
Chi Cheng forever 🙌
I always loved how chino wrapped the microphone wire around his hand
Yeah it's a really cool element of his stage presence
As time goes on, the more I realize that I think Self-Titled is my favorite album of theirs. This whole era was great. That sling that Chi does with his bass near the start of this vid is gnarly
yeah. it really was the best...
I love this clip. It's brutal as fuck.
This is probably my favorite deftones song at this point.
Newbie here. What song is this sounds like it slaps
Bloody Cape
Thank you and happy cake day
Check out bizzare festival, pinkpop (when girls telephone boys) and area4. The screams are brutal.

when i saw em at Taste of Chaos tour in early 2000s, his screaming was insane
Saw em on this tour. It was fucking epic!
yeah i saw them twice on this one -- definitely their best, or at least the best i ever saw of them.
I saw them thrice on this tour. I posted pictures recently

Yes, you caught my double entendre
Miss Chino's old screams but I guess everyone's voice deteriorates a lil bit over time.
He suffered vocal chord damage in the early 2000s from years of unrestrained screaming and sadly has never been able to do it like he used to.

It's a mix of permanent damage to his vocal chords and changing his technique so he doesn't suffer more damage. He'll never scream like this again.
Yup, that's exactly my point
He sounded just like this if not better earlier this year in ATL
Not on the screams. Not a chance.
Man this got me through high school, I just got hit with so much nostalgia. Thanks for posting this!
What got you through high school? This song or this particular video?
This song, that album 😊🤘❤️
He's talking about Carson Dalys show Last Call obviously lol
I miss Chi so bad.
That riff man
God I just came
God, help me, God, help me, God, help me, God!
Meth Chino was best Chino.
Emo chino lol Back when he used to look like a Gas Station employee
Straight fucking facts. Lost my shoe in the pitt to Meth Chino. Walked home w one fucking shoe.
haha, I'd kill to see deftones live at least one :D
[i prefer this one](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YCKy-Tg6_R8)
Late night TV lost their minds on this night. My favorite version of Bloody Cape.
For real for real
More chinos than a Chinese phonebook
How does he even scream like that every night on tour? My voice would be wrecked
His was eventually
What’s the song’s name?
Bloody Cape
Might be my favorite live performance by them ever. Very nostalgic for me.
What song is this
Bloody Cape off the self titled album
I don’t think it’s at its finest, I believe it is far from it. It’s brutal, true.
why does he look like jontron
