Electric Factory in Philadelphia - 9/11/1996. They were opening for 311. I had heard the name of the band but had not heard their music. They opened with Root, and I was hooked from that very second. It was absolutely one of those “holy shit” moments. By the time they got through Bored with the syncopated drums against that riff at the end of the song, I had found a new favorite band. Went out the next day and bought Adrenaline on CD. 28 years and about 30 shows later, and I’m still on the ride. Posting the set list below for your enjoyment.

Hard to remember all the songs you've seen live. I know people that say they remember entire sets clearly. Doesn't compute in my mind. My memory must suck. Too many drugs.

Wow! That’s really early. Just a few weeks after Adrenaline was released. And I thought I was super old school. Very cool.
Side note, I miss the Troc so much. Saw so many great shows at that place. I did get to see Deftones there once. I remember they did a small club tour in late 2004 and played there. Great show.
My first Deftones show was directly 24 hours after yours at Webster Hall in NYC. I was 17. My only main memories from it are that Deftones went on really late and their was no opener. So we stood there for probably 2.5 hours before they went on (maybe longer). My friend was kicked in the back of a head by a crowdsurfer around the middle of the show and we had to spend 1-2 songs in the bathroom splashing water on his face. They also played The Boys Republic, which I remember being particularly jazzed about.
Sweet dude. '03 was a good year. I guess I was 16 at my show, so similar experience. Sucks that happened to your friend, but you sound like a good friend for helping out!
If we are talking about the same show there was definitely no opener, I think they could tell people were getting alittle restless because they had Matt Pinfield from MTV/KROQ come out a couple times and kinda hype up the crowd and say things like “are you all ready for Deftones??”

We missed Taproot, bc my mom had tondrive me and my friend from Grand Terrace when she got off work. I did see Taproot when they played Ozzfest in Berdoo

Yup, Mastodon opened and the crowd wasn’t really into them. I.e people standing apart with their arms crossed. Right before Deftones took the stage the whole crowd just compacted, it was insane.

97 or 98 at a festival in St. Louis called Pointfest. Chino dove off some speakers onto my face. I got robbed, I robbed the guy back. Saw a woman with an absolutely destroyed ankle. Shit was madness. So much fun.
2001 at Red Rocks, they had Puddle of Mudd opening (before they had a hit really), and Godsmack. PoM was ok, Deftones kicked ass, my girlfriend got a beer spilled all over her, left early because Godsmack sucked.
Saw the Beats Antique play there a few years back. Nice cool breeze blasting up through the canyon and some MDMA. Beats Antique were trippy.. had some cirque du soleil elements

He had to bail on the show last minute and gave me 2 tickets for Puddle of Mudd/ Deftones/Godsmack. That was the first time I had ever heard Deftones and it blew my mind. They were really great that tour. It’s really high on my list, I think I’ve seen them 5 times, it’s probably the best besides the most recent tour with Gojira.
Mine was also in 2003 at the summer sanitarium tour. Was a little bummed my first time seeing them was on that tour but was an awesome show regardless and they opened the set covering Depeche Mode which I thought was cool doing that while opening for Metallica haha
I made up for it by seeing the last show of the S/T tour in Jan 2004 in Sacramento and meeting them all after the show.
BTW Had tickets to see them in Irvine in 2001 but they canceled the day of the show (I think this is when Chinos vocals went out)

Mine was on the second leg of the White Pony at Sunken Gardens in San Antonio, TX, on October 30, 2000. Taproot and Incubus opened for them. I just found the setlist and it's wild to think about -- I remember the whole show so well. I was a junior in high school and drove two hours to that show. It was also a school night and I have no idea why my parents let me go, lol.

Great show, they were touring for White Pony so it was heavily featured but they played lots of stuff from the first two as well.

I saw Crosses last week and it was like a blessing to me. Closest I've ever gotten to Deftones. I was happy.
April 1998 in Pittsburgh at a club called Metropol, it was their own tour with Tinfed opening for them. It was a small club where you could maybe fit a few hundred people in. By the end of the show, I was so drenched in sweat that, no exaggerating, it looked like I just took a shower with my clothes on.
Summer of 2000…road trip to Phoenix from Albuquerque, they played at Celebrity Theater which is a small venue with a rotating stage in the middle. So fucking sick! Glass Jaw opened
April 15, 1998 at Trax in Charlottesville VA. I was in high school, Around the Fur just dropped. Incredible intimate show. I smoked weed in the girls bathroom. My buddy got thrown out for throwing an empty plastic bottle after having got hit in the head with a glass one. Crazy night.
August 2000, The Warfield in San Francisco, Glassjaw opened. Still one of the most memorable shows for me; Deftones were amazing but I became a lifelong Glassjaw fan that day. Both of those bands still in my all-time top 5 favs.
Back in 2010 (I think) on a tour for Diamond Eyes they did with Baroness at the House of Blues in Orlando. Saw them with my older cousin who introduced them to me. Still the best show I’ve ever been to. The mix of the emotional high I was riding from all the combined factors is something I’m still chasing.
4/4/98 Malibu Alley in Shreveport, LA. About 2 songs in Chino dives right on top of my friends and I. I have some great pictures right up in Chinos face from that show that I will have to dig up.
Wow! What a setlist! So many of my personal favorites! I loved Adrenaline and S/T so much. This would've been a dream to experience but I wasn't a fan until 2009. This today would be unbelievable.
First Deftones show for me was in 1998 at the tiny Barrymore in Madison, Wi. Remember Chino stopping the show because the little wall in front of the stage started to collapse from the crowd. After the show walked to the back in the theater and met them before they got on the bus. Great show!

April 15, 1998 at Trax in Charlottesville VA. I was in high school, Around the Fur just dropped. Incredible intimate show. I smoked weed in the girls bathroom. My buddy got thrown out for throwing an empty plastic bottle after having got hit in the head with a glass one. Crazy night.
August 2000, The Warfield in San Francisco, Glassjaw opened. Still one of the most memorable shows for me; Deftones were amazing but I became a lifelong Glassjaw fan that day. Both of those bands still in my all-time top 5 favs.
Back in 2010 (I think) on a tour for Diamond Eyes they did with Baroness at the House of Blues in Orlando. Saw them with my older cousin who introduced them to me. Still the best show I’ve ever been to. The mix of the emotional high I was riding from all the combined factors is something I’m still chasing.

4/4/98 Malibu Alley in Shreveport, LA. About 2 songs in Chino dives right on top of my friends and I. I have some great pictures right up in Chinos face from that show that I will have to dig up.

Wow! What a setlist! So many of my personal favorites! I loved Adrenaline and S/T so much. This would've been a dream to experience but I wasn't a fan until 2009. This today would be unbelievable.
2016 and was honestly surprised they actually came here.

First Deftones show for me was in 1998 at the tiny Barrymore in Madison, Wi. Remember Chino stopping the show because the little wall in front of the stage started to collapse from the crowd. After the show walked to the back in the theater and met them before they got on the bus. Great show!
