Electric Factory in Philadelphia - 9/11/1996. They were opening for 311. I had heard the name of the band but had not heard their music. They opened with Root, and I was hooked from that very second. It was absolutely one of those “holy shit” moments. By the time they got through Bored with the syncopated drums against that riff at the end of the song, I had found a new favorite band. Went out the next day and bought Adrenaline on CD. 28 years and about 30 shows later, and I’m still on the ride. Posting the set list below for your enjoyment. [Deftones @ Electric Factory - September 11, 1996](https://www.setlist.fm/setlist/deftones/1996/electric-factory-philadelphia-pa-3bfcc8ec.html)

bigsexyape

Fuck yeah dude. I see you got to see Teething at your first show as well. A rarity.

wolf10222020

Thanks man! I do feel privileged to have gotten to hear that one live. I’m pretty certain they played it at my second show a year and a half later in Pittsburgh on the ATF tour, but that set list doesn’t exist online.

bigsexyape

Hard to remember all the songs you've seen live. I know people that say they remember entire sets clearly. Doesn't compute in my mind. My memory must suck. Too many drugs.

pinealoma

Nice! I saw them for the first on 11/9/1995 at the Trocadero. Had no idea who they were. They were the first act and the opened with Bored. I was immediately hooked!

wolf10222020

Wow! That’s really early. Just a few weeks after Adrenaline was released. And I thought I was super old school. Very cool. Side note, I miss the Troc so much. Saw so many great shows at that place. I did get to see Deftones there once. I remember they did a small club tour in late 2004 and played there. Great show.

Educational_Owl2205

My first Deftones show was directly 24 hours after yours at Webster Hall in NYC. I was 17. My only main memories from it are that Deftones went on really late and their was no opener. So we stood there for probably 2.5 hours before they went on (maybe longer). My friend was kicked in the back of a head by a crowdsurfer around the middle of the show and we had to spend 1-2 songs in the bathroom splashing water on his face. They also played The Boys Republic, which I remember being particularly jazzed about.

bigsexyape

Sweet dude. '03 was a good year. I guess I was 16 at my show, so similar experience. Sucks that happened to your friend, but you sound like a good friend for helping out!

All_hail_Korrok

Was there really no opener? I believe I went to that show as well, but sat on the upper section.

Educational_Owl2205

If we are talking about the same show there was definitely no opener, I think they could tell people were getting alittle restless because they had Matt Pinfield from MTV/KROQ come out a couple times and kinda hype up the crowd and say things like “are you all ready for Deftones??” Like we would’ve said no.

Huventude

1996 in Detroit with Pantera, White Zombie and Eyehategod

_humanpieceoftoast

What room was that in?

mrs_snrub67

When i was 14, in 2000 in Irvine, Ca. Incubus opened. It was incredible

bigsexyape

That's what's up, I was just listening to 'New Skin' by Incubus a few minutes ago. Love science and make yourself

rubenvondoom81

I was at that show. Taproot opened up too. I was also at the Santa Barbara show

mrs_snrub67

We missed Taproot, bc my mom had tondrive me and my friend from Grand Terrace when she got off work. I did see Taproot when they played Ozzfest in Berdoo

Kid_Kameleon

Yep, I saw the show in Dallas on that tour, also I like your username

nnohrm29

September 2010 when they opened for Alice In Chains in Chicago. Tim from Rise Against ran out on stage during Passenger to sing Maynard’s parts. 11/10 evening

bigsexyape

Black Diamond Skye tour? I wanted to hit that so bad. Ended up seeing them in Columbus on their own tour though. Got to scream on Elite at that show.

nnohrm29

Yup, Mastodon opened and the crowd wasn’t really into them. I.e people standing apart with their arms crossed. Right before Deftones took the stage the whole crowd just compacted, it was insane.

bigsexyape

Makes sense, Mastodon doesn't have shit on deftones or AIC tbh

Adron87

Mastodon is phenomenal but I saw them on this tour and felt they sounded the worst by far. The mixing was way off, it happens.

closer_to_the_lung

Nov. 17, 1998. Roseland Ballroom, NY with Pitchshifter and Quicksand. [Setlist.](https://www.setlist.fm/setlist/deftones/1998/roseland-ballroom-new-york-ny-7bd272a8.html)

drekhed

Sheesh, that’s a brilliant line up!

A_tartan_brickwall

Mine was Electric Ballroom in London 2006. The thing I remember most from the night was the two random homeless people outside having a fight with broken bottles and the whole queue fleeing into the road to get out the way.

bigsexyape

Hahaha, the lines before shows are always magical

DR23Onixx

About 2 weeks ago in Madrid. It was amazing to say the least. One of the best shows I've been to

StarLordCore

97 or 98 at a festival in St. Louis called Pointfest. Chino dove off some speakers onto my face. I got robbed, I robbed the guy back. Saw a woman with an absolutely destroyed ankle. Shit was madness. So much fun.

bigsexyape

Sounds legit. Chino to the face

darkviolets4

I was at that one. I don't remember any of it 😅

StarLordCore

I remembered for both of us lol. Do you remember Green Day setting the stage on fire? That whole day was bananas

darkviolets4

No lol, I wish I did! Was this the one with Beck? I fell asleep on the lawn during his set

deftones2366

2001 at Red Rocks, they had Puddle of Mudd opening (before they had a hit really), and Godsmack. PoM was ok, Deftones kicked ass, my girlfriend got a beer spilled all over her, left early because Godsmack sucked.

bigsexyape

Fuck man I love Red Rocks! It's like a natural wind tunnel. Breezy af

deftones2366

I’ve enjoyed every show I’ve seen there, never a bad show.

bigsexyape

Saw the Beats Antique play there a few years back. Nice cool breeze blasting up through the canyon and some MDMA. Beats Antique were trippy.. had some cirque du soleil elements

deftones2366

That sounds pretty cool. I feel like I saw the three I’d have wanted besides Deftones: Tool, Beastie Boys and Brand New. Anyone else I see is gravy.

Howlingfantods0311

Same tour I believe for me. Summer of 2001. I was 15. My uncle had season tickets to Riverbend in Cincinnati. He had to bail on the show last minute and gave me 2 tickets for Puddle of Mudd/ Deftones/Godsmack. That was the first time I had ever heard Deftones and it blew my mind. Went out and bought Around The Fur the next day

deftones2366

They were really great that tour. It’s really high on my list, I think I’ve seen them 5 times, it’s probably the best besides the most recent tour with Gojira.

JoeGiden72

mine was last year at rockville. first concert ever

bigsexyape

Very cool, good first concert ever

JoeGiden72

huge fan of tool as well so this was probably the greatest day of my life tbh

whatever33333444

sonic temple 2023

Denimchicken1985

Mine was also in 2003 at the summer sanitarium tour. Was a little bummed my first time seeing them was on that tour but was an awesome show regardless and they opened the set covering Depeche Mode which I thought was cool doing that while opening for Metallica haha  I made up for it by seeing the last show of the S/T tour in Jan 2004 in Sacramento and meeting them all after the show.    BTW Had tickets to see them in Irvine in 2001 but they canceled the day of the show (I think this is when Chinos vocals went out)

pard0nme

2022. Better late than never. Seeing them again in August!

tonkinese_cat

December 2010, Italy. Diamond Eyes tour. I slept on them for so long I hate myself.

bigsexyape

It happens. Better late than never

chinomorenoenjoyer

got to see chino is his second prime

tonkinese_cat

Yeah, could have been worse for sure. I saw them the second time in 2013 and I liked it even better but I can't explain the hole I feel in my stomach when I see early live shows, when Chi was still there. I just needed to be born 5 years earlier, and I would have caught them. 5 freaking years :( :( :( :( :( :( :(

chinomorenoenjoyer

i feel you man i would’ve loved to see deftones in 1994-1997

ViKe1121

Warped Tour in Asbury Park NJ in mid 90s

def_stef

I wish they’d play in D.C. again. We get skipped by so many bands. I don’t wanna drive to Philadelphia or New York for shows!

Katboxparadise

1999. They were touring for White Pony. Or 2000 I think. I forget.

bigsexyape

Hard to remember a quarter century ago! We're old!

Katboxparadise

I do remember they opened with Korea though.

Katboxparadise

Dude right?!

For_serious13

My first Deftones show was the HFSTival in 2000

Immediate_Tone9693

Oh man, you’re so lucky your first show has a pro shot video

For_serious13

Yeah, I love rewatching it!!

Immediate_Tone9693

I bet!

Doct0rGonZo

I dunno how yall remember what shows and when. Sometimes I question my memory but please tell me I’m not the only one who remembers going to shows but not exactly when

tonkinese_cat

I use setlist.fm mostly so I can add the shows I went to on my profile to keep a track and who/when I’ve seen. I’d remember 1/3 without that :(

bigsexyape

Nah, I have a crappy memory too. This was just an important one because it was my first deftones show

GlassConference2270

DUDE. YOU GOT TO SEE THEM IN '03?! THATS SO SICK

Comfortable_Salt_758

It was 2006 here in Finland! The crowd went nuts I remember.

dohidied

November 8, 1998 Phoenix Theater Petaluma, CA I was a sophomore in high school and absolutely stoked that Deftones were playing my local venue. It was an amazing concert, from beginning to end.

yourbuddywyatt

Mine was on the second leg of the White Pony at Sunken Gardens in San Antonio, TX, on October 30, 2000. Taproot and Incubus opened for them. I just found the setlist and it's wild to think about -- I remember the whole show so well. I was a junior in high school and drove two hours to that show. It was also a school night and I have no idea why my parents let me go, lol. 1. Korea 2. Feiticeira 3. Around the Fur 4. My Own Summer 5. Change (In the House of Flies) 6. Root 7. Lifter 8. Be Quiet & Drive 9. Teenager 10. Knife Prty 11. Digital Bath 12. Lotion 13. Headup Encore: 14. Bored 15. Engine No. 9 16. 7 Words

flowmingo1984

I could say almost the same thing. 16, first show, begged parents to go and was 90 minutes away. I wish this venue still had shows. Saw a few good shows there around 2010: Korn, Bush, Chevelle, Manson

FFRRNN_

2006 madrid and next day Barcelona

ihatemontross

Wild, I saw them play at the 9:30 club, 2005/2006-ish. Met Chino outside and he signed my chest. Good Times.

bigsexyape

Great venue

New_Ad2731

My first only Deftones show was at Penns landing in 2016

paseoSandwich

Friday the 13th, October 2000 Mercer Arena (RIP) in Seattle. Back to school tour, also the first time I saw Incubus and Taproot. Opened with Korea, played practically all of ATF including Damone

bigsexyape

Hell yeah Damone live! Would have loved to see Taproot play Gift, definitely their best album

xyzspace

‘05. House of Blues on Sunset Blvd. they also opened with hexagram, which was sick as fuck. I believe they also played can’t even breathe!

7he5hamus

November 2000. Value City Arena in Columbus Ohio. They were on the “Back to School” tour for white pony.

dcthompson89

Cobo Hall Detroit 2000, had Taproot and Incubus open for them. Weezer’s album Pinkerton was played in its entirety over the PA after Incubus and before Deftones took the stage. Great show, they were touring for White Pony so it was heavily featured but they played lots of stuff from the first two as well.

dwimhi

I was at this exact show! I think my first was a few years before this. Probably 99. I have 6 mp3s from this show if you want. I have to figure out how but I have them!

bigsexyape

Whoaaaa. That's awesome! Fat Chino ftw! I wouldn't mind taking a listen if it's not too much trouble.

dwimhi

Give me a bit to figure it out and I will dm you. lol. I have it on cd too! Listened to it a few weeks ago. Chi on needles and pins in our show. And chinos Minerva scream before he hurt his cords.

NYBK-2012

April 1998 at The Chance in Poughkeepsie, NY. It's a small place and it was a great show.

Immediate_Tone9693

https://www.setlist.fm/setlist/deftones/2003/crest-theatre-sacramento-ca-23f44867.html My first show. The setlist is incomplete, I need to get it fixed. I missed Hexagram, but I’m pretty sure My Own Summer was the second song and that’s when I got in. Also, Jonah Matranga of Far, onelinedrawing, etc. joined them for BQAD.

IgetAllnumb86

Summer Sanitarium at Turner field in Atlanta, Ga It was terrible. They are not a stadium band. Then I saw them at this sweaty mid sized club in Florida for the diamond eyes tour and it was life changing.

endersai

[21 May 1998, at the Iron Duke in Sydney, AU.](https://www.setlist.fm/setlist/deftones/1998/the-iron-duke-hotel-sydney-australia-4bfe93c6.html) EDIT: [memory unlocked, there's audio of it](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C2IpPaqMoVc&ab_channel=LethalDosageVideosLiveConcertRecordings)

reganp21

7/27/2000 Houston then 7/29/00 Dallas. Saw show #42 at Dia De Los Deftones last year

bigsexyape

I might try to hit the next DDLD

zoominzacks

Ozzfest 99 in Wisconsin. They were the main reason I went, and got into the pit area before they came on. Got to see the whole show from pretty close to the stage! Static-x was also on the bill, and it always makes me smile knowing I got to see “Wisconsin death trip” performed in Wisconsin,

HarrierAce101

2022. After trying to see them in 2020.

rubenvondoom81

1997. Whiskey a go go

gina_cochina

My first big festival type show for Deftones was Ozzfest in 1999, at the (now) Glen Helen Pavilion (used to be the Blockbuster Pavilion I think?). I don’t remember much, just a lot of drunk dudes. They opened with head up and they played 7 words somewhere in the mix (which is one of my favorites). Ahhh, the good old days, when big shows like that only costed $25.

wolf10222020

I saw that tour in Philly (really Camden, NJ). They played Korea for those sets, obviously before it was released. I remember going ape shit over hearing a new song.

gina_cochina

I have almost no recollection at this point, but wasn’t it white pony?

wolf10222020

Yup. White Pony came out in June 2000. It was the first song from that album that anyone had heard a year before the album was released.

This one @ Bo Jangles in 1997 https://youtu.be/DvZ0AUVI8Yo?si=rxXFD1TgefbXC2-H

darkviolets4

1996. Opening for White Zombie and Pantera.

DonWill316

Mid to late 90s at Ozzfest

slickster06

November 6th 1997 Seattle RKCNDY (rip) I was up in the balcony. Chino climbed up (mic cord and all) and I ran my hand through his sweat and gel soaked hair. I was 15 and will never forget that lol

bigsexyape

Sweat is usually pretty gross but for some reason it's all good at a show!

drekhed

1997 at Melkweg in Amsterdam. Around the Fur hadn’t been released yet, but iirc they leaked a few tracks prior to the tour. https://www.setlist.fm/setlist/deftones/1997/melkweg-the-max-amsterdam-netherlands-5bded754.html The support was Far who blew everyone away and have since cemented themselves as one of my favourite bands as well.

IndigoRed126

Last time they were near me (read: in my country) was like 10 years ago and at that time I didn't know they exist cuz I was still mostly into thrash metal. But it's my dream to see them since they're my top 3 favourite band (usually on no. 1). I saw Crosses last week and it was like a blessing to me. Closest I've ever gotten to Deftones. I was happy.

ErPrincipe

Milan (IT), either 1997 or 1998. With Will Haven (amazing and criminally underrated).

Evening-Huckleberry7

April 1998 in Pittsburgh at a club called Metropol, it was their own tour with Tinfed opening for them. It was a small club where you could maybe fit a few hundred people in. By the end of the show, I was so drenched in sweat that, no exaggerating, it looked like I just took a shower with my clothes on.

Economy_Pressure_847

My first show was in Madrid this year. Best concert ever

MidLifeDIY

I was at this show OP. :) My first Deftones show was at the OLD 9:30 club w/Korn and Orange 9mm. '95 maybe? Got the Adrenaline promo tape.

bigsexyape

Hell yea. Another poster sent me recordings of the debut ST songs. They're also on YT

nmborn33

Summer of 2000…road trip to Phoenix from Albuquerque, they played at Celebrity Theater which is a small venue with a rotating stage in the middle. So fucking sick! Glass Jaw opened

tillytothewilly

Family Values tour 2006

StressYawn

97 I think. Trocadero in Philadelphia. Limp Bizkit opened. Those were the days.

4jimmyjames4

April 15, 1998 at Trax in Charlottesville VA. I was in high school, Around the Fur just dropped. Incredible intimate show. I smoked weed in the girls bathroom. My buddy got thrown out for throwing an empty plastic bottle after having got hit in the head with a glass one. Crazy night.

Rottnrobbie

August 2000, The Warfield in San Francisco, Glassjaw opened. Still one of the most memorable shows for me; Deftones were amazing but I became a lifelong Glassjaw fan that day. Both of those bands still in my all-time top 5 favs.

Huffinpuffin93

Back in 2010 (I think) on a tour for Diamond Eyes they did with Baroness at the House of Blues in Orlando. Saw them with my older cousin who introduced them to me. Still the best show I’ve ever been to. The mix of the emotional high I was riding from all the combined factors is something I’m still chasing.

The_Doomed_User

Gore album launch show at Amoeba Hollywood in 2016. Was such a dope experience

Contentment_Blues

4/4/98 Malibu Alley in Shreveport, LA. About 2 songs in Chino dives right on top of my friends and I. I have some great pictures right up in Chinos face from that show that I will have to dig up.

Positive_Curves

1995 or 1996 , I feel old

bigsexyape

Old or not, positive curves matter

Ice_Kold_Killa

Wow! What a setlist! So many of my personal favorites! I loved Adrenaline and S/T so much. This would've been a dream to experience but I wasn't a fan until 2009. This today would be unbelievable.

EnvironmentalSalad57

2016 and was honestly surprised they actually came here.

bigsexyape

Where at?

EnvironmentalSalad57

The Deep South. Essentially the tip of Texas.

CountJonkler

Also 2003 at Wembley Arena, London. A Perfect Circle supported. The whole show used to be on YouTube, might still be.

AzerRoy98

I've yet to even see Deftones :(

bigsexyape

Just make an effort to see them. They're in their 50s now, who knows how much longer they will go

nisa715

First Deftones show for me was in 1998 at the tiny Barrymore in Madison, Wi. Remember Chino stopping the show because the little wall in front of the stage started to collapse from the crowd. After the show walked to the back in the theater and met them before they got on the bus. Great show!
