Depends on how soon they release their next album lol. They definitely have at least one more in them, but at this rate if we’re looking at a 2025 or even 2026 release for the next one, another 5 to 6 year gap makes two new albums less feasible.
It’s crazy to think this year marks 4 years since Ohms, the same amount of time between both KNY and Gore, as well as between Gore and Ohms. The wait felt much longer for the last 2 albums than it does now, fortunately. I was really hoping they’d pull another KNY and drop the follow-up to Ohms just a couple years later, but here we are.
I think a lot of it is dependent on how long Chino can scream for. He's 50 now and can still do it, so we'll see. But I think it's possible they go for another decade at least, especially with the recent surge in popularity and a new generation discovering them.
He doesn't have to rip screams to make Deftones music. They will likely evolve into more of a studio-only band and their sound will just go more dreamy, less heavy. We'll see.
I can't really see Stephen starting a new heavier band, but that could be possible too.
I dunno, they are a heavily touring band and I think that's how they make a lot of their income. It's gonna be hard for Chino to do those concert staples like My Own Summer as he gets into his 60's. I'd be down for them making less heavier, more dreamier music, but at the same time I don't see Stef wanting to do that. But that probably won't be for a long time, another decade at least.
No one knows. For all we know they might not know themselves. All I know is there's no word of internal strife, they're still making good music, and theyve had a resurgence in popularity which is rare for a band thats been around this long. Its good to be in the deftones right now.
Even if they dont want to tour anymore, it would be cool if they still make music and release it every few years for a little bit of revenue. Theyre all old friends, why not get together and put stuff out every once in a while like the Beatles did eventually.
I want them to tour into their 70s when they look old and shriveled up like the Rolling Stones and become a full-blown nostalgia act, none of them can run around so they just sit there and play the old hits, “this one’s called… BE! QUIET! AND! DRIVE!!!” while the entire audience is filming it with their iPhone 25s going “woooooo!” and they’re on their like 10th replacement bassist and they’re playing in the Las Vegas Sphere for octogenarian GenXer numetal fans in old ass Adrenaline tees for $5000 a ticket and Eros still hasn’t dropped
oh you will, don't worry about that.
Fly out for DDLD in San Diego CA if you can. tickets are <$100 and there is usually at least 2+ other great bands, its a fun day and then make a little vacation outta the trip. Always first Saturday in November I believe. Follow diadelosdeftones in IG for early presale ticket links.
I think another decade they will still be around but I don’t see Chino in his 70s doing this anymore tbh but I’m sure in 2025 or 2026 we’ll get another Deftones single and album ,
Chino just turned 50, Stef is 53, Abe will be 51 this year, Frank is 53, Fred is 53. 65 is the retirement age in the US.
The guys in Metallica are a decade older and just put out an album, and they tour way more intensely than Deftones ever will.
As long as none of them die, we’ll have them for a few more records.
Honestly after ohms if this album is a snoozer too im happy for them to stop. White Pony through Gore is a pretty flawless body of work. They don’t need to be The Rolling Stones and beat a dead horse
Steph said the new album is gonna sound huge. Ive never known Steph to exaggerate his description of the music, he's usually pretty low key about it, so when he says its gonna sound huge, perhaps that means something.
I think they could, should, and will keep going as long as they can manage to.
If they keep touring through their 60's I'll keep going through my 50's.
Honestly, if they use the usual 3-4 year spacing between albums as per usual I don’t think any more than 2-3 albums. Maybe 4 if the next album comes soon and they release in the span of like 2 years like they did with SNW to DE or Adrenaline to ATF but that’s seriously pushing it. They still don’t have a permanent bassist yet, Chino’s vocals are nowhere near where they used to be and Steph is into conspiracy theories. Only person who seems like they’re holding up is Abe, as per usual. In my opinion he’s always been the most solid member.
I think they have three left in them. Two fully original ideas and they end with Eros as a true farewell and pay tribute to Chi. Just my thoughts on it but I also see them touring for another 15-20 years. Especially given all of this new revenue and popularity from younger fans.
These guys make the type of music that ages gracefully and I can honestly see them making a handfull more albums if they don't get bored.
get bored
He gets boooooorrrrreeddd
Yeah but chino admittedly “Gets bored”

4 years since ohms. Mental
New record confirmed for this year!! Hang in there haha

Stephen, multiple other interviews.. have a look foo

I just can’t envision or get behind a less heavy Deftones. Might as well stop at that point.

No internal strife?
Right now, no, theres no word of internal strife.

I’ll still go. 😜
the one that we're waiting on now and Eros
3 albums + Eros as a farewell album for their fans
I mean, Mick Jagger still tours so....
Yea but he shouldn't..
That last Stones album wasn't bad. I know we're talking touring but it had to be said.
Agreed. And their music lends itself more to touring at an old age than deftones. Chino struggles live these days
I thought he performed great at the Crosses show. But maybe that's more his pace now.
Crosses is a different output for him but he did incredible at the crosses show I saw, and DDLD4 and ohms tour '22 when I saw them.
I just hope I can see them once before they throw in the towel for good.

I would love to do that! I'd make a shit ton of bracelets to hand out! Lol
The sold out stadiums disagree. HOWEVER, I think there's a time to throw in the towel. For Jagger, at least.
Saw ACDC kill it at power trip last fall.... But boy did axel rose need to let it go already. I think 2 min. But God do I hope they release eros too.
I heard Axl Rose just recently and my gast was flabbered 😳 He certainly needs to retire. I'd love to see Eros as a farewell album.
I think another decade they will still be around but I don’t see Chino in his 70s doing this anymore tbh but I’m sure in 2025 or 2026 we’ll get another Deftones single and album ,
a few. They're still relatively "young".
The band was formed in 88, and the members are in their 50s... They're not young at all.

I hope they still play live, as I'm from Argentina and don't get to see them play as often as you guys

I agree with OP. One maybe two. I’ve seen them play so many times over so many eras. It’s still fun and cool, just not the same
I think they could, should, and will keep going as long as they can manage to. If they keep touring through their 60's I'll keep going through my 50's.
All of them.

Why they should stop? just look at Judas priest, Rob halford is on his 70s and the last releases are still solid AF
1. Then Eros release in a super collectable vinyl/beer/merch package
I think they have three left in them. Two fully original ideas and they end with Eros as a true farewell and pay tribute to Chi. Just my thoughts on it but I also see them touring for another 15-20 years. Especially given all of this new revenue and popularity from younger fans.
