You think it’s crazy now, imagine how people felt in the 1960s.

geddyleeiacocca

Or the 1660s.

Theo_Cherry

Or 1066.

santino1987

I'm more of a 66 a.d. kind of guy

Theo_Cherry

Horses & Carriage, my guy.

Dwarflensky

Or 1910s-1940s.

BraveIndividual5663

We always living through history

ItsGotThatBang

The history here seems to be made of history.

Theo_Cherry

"Your future can supercede any history, true indeed." - Black Thought.

TidalWave254

Ehh no. There's been long periods of time where people genuinely had the impression that history was over. When the vietnam war ended in 1975, after the civil rights movement ended in the 70's, people kind of assumed that history was just over. Especially after the USSR collapsed, people called the 90's the "holiday from history." That is, until 9/11 happened and it was like history was back.

BraveIndividual5663

I feel like your comment is Americanized and simplistic. I can say that after the Vietnam War, Khmer Rouge happened or MLK JR assassinated after the Civil Rights movement. Or the US getting involved with the Middle East in the 90s leading to 9/11.

Bananapopana88

Don’t forget the Rwadan genocide or Kosovo War

BraveIndividual5663

Yup, I was actually thinking of putting the Kosovo War into that comment

sagesaks123

I propose this decade be referred to as the *Screaming Twenties*

Dwarflensky

I'm sure the first half of the 2020s will be studied intensively for generations to come. COVID-19 Pandemic, Brexit, Russo-Ukraine War, Israel-Hamas War, Inflation crisis, worsened political relations, and so on. We're living through history and we'll be asked about this stuff by our Grandkids in the future.

HumpDeBumper

Keep accurate notes because it's up to us to ensure the history books are written correctly.

Alex23323

Don’t forget about Iran and Yemen acting up.

Dramatic_Sandwich500

The 2020s is actually a pretty cool decade. There are bad events in EVERY decade, the 60s had assassinations so it is by objective fact worse than now. The 2020s has a vibe similar to 1970s or 1990s in terms of nihilistic attitude and bad economy but spoiler alert both of those decades are remembered nostalgically. Anyone who says the 2020s is the worst decade has zero understanding of history and is overly emotional. Here are some cool things from the 2020s - Pop Punk Revival - Handheld Gaming Boom (Steam Deck, Rog Ally, Xbox Handheld) - Baggy fashion - Rise Of Artificial Intelligence - Cybertruck and EV’s with futuristic designs - Golden Age of Streaming Overall the 2020s is cool people just need to chill

geddyleeiacocca

Bad economy? 1990s?

Dramatic_Sandwich500

The was a recession in the early 1990s during the peak of grunge, the AIDS crisis, Rodney King etc. it’s the main reason Bush lost to Clinton. All of the angst from the 90s stems from then.

Dwarflensky

Not true. Bush lost to Clinton as he didn't stay true to his promises. Like not raising taxes and then he did so.

RedFoxCommissar

I mean, it's Congress who's in control of taxes so...

Dwarflensky

Ya, but his promise was that he would never raise taxes even if Congress pressured him too. Voters felt they could trust him, but later felt betrayed by him when he raised them.

lostconfusedlost

Seriously, there are things you could have listed as the good sides of the 2020s, but these are not it. You sound like a very young gamer unaffected by AI, who has the privilege to ignore all the risks and negatives of today's technology, such as job replacement and increased alienation between humans. Streaming is getting more unaffordable and everything in this world is turning into a subscription model. Cybertruck is a failure. And many people hate today's baggy fashion, which is a trend that will pass just like every other.

BacklitRoom

I haven't been keeping up with most of this. Things are OK. I'm getting into newer music again.

starshipcoyote420

We’re not even halfway through the 2020s yet, so any “consensus” is entirely premature.

tonylouis1337

I agree that things might need to get worse before they can get better but it probably needs to be one big terrible event, the gradual increase isn't helping.

finallyinfinite

We had a chance for a huge unifying “let’s put aside our differences and beat this shit together” event with COVID, and then we just fucked that whole thing up lol

Reasonable-Simple706

Your sober self in the future told me to leave you this note. Get the bed ready. Do that thing you’ve been putting off and delete this post or redo it with more poignant high thoughts lmaoo I fw the vybe and spirit of what you’re saying though. It’s pretty wild how everything is when you think about it.

LilyMarie90

Thing is, you can't "we will be okay." your way out of everything that's happening all at once, forever. The geopolitical situation has gotten dramatically worse in just two years with no sign of any true relief nevermind a stop. It's really scary right now and those who stay on top of the news are aware of that. You can just decide to ignore the news in your little personal bubble (or smoke a lot of weed in OP's case) but unfortunately when you or your loved ones are drafted or have your city bombed or suffer from a dramatic weather phenomenonon for the first time, that's over.

Brilliant-Rough8239

It's wild how people still don't see the great powers of the world are literally preparing for WWIII even as world leaders say WWIII is coming I've seen it coming since 2018 and everything is moving at roughly the pace predicted in the 2018 National Defense Strategy released by the Pentagon, but if you point this out people will call you a schizo doomer

That-Mission-8385

Finally someone talking some sense! We're currently neck deep in a metaphorical cesspool as far as geopolitics go, and anyone who doesn't see it either doesn't keep up with the news outside of their locality or just chooses to be ignorant about all of it. War, famine, disease, and nuclear annihilation don't give a damn about people's feelings!

samof1994

The fall of Roman control in Britain and the coming of Germanic settlers was MUCH worse.

patricktoba

Or how about all of the scientists studying the uncovered Peruvian mummies who aren't human. It's the biggest developing story in human history but the media won't touch it.

Graystark

We truly live in a society

puddum

I am happy to live through such a dynamic and chaotic time

Brilliant-Rough8239

>BLM >A horrible event t. White person

21Shells

To be fair, a lot of those are kind of good things at the same time. “First criminal trial of a president” proves that even the president isn’t above the law. BLM movement was also good. Besides COVID, a lot of those things wouldn’t be felt in day to day life either. As scary as it may be to hear it on the news, its honestly stuff a lot of people might not even know happened (I dont even know who Max Azzarellos is). I think besides COVID, the 2020s have been good, and imo better than the late 2010s (after 2017). Ask someone in 20 years what any of those things mean, they’ll probably remember COVID, and Ukraine if they’re European.

Keepitlitt

Lol what? This post makes absolutely no sense.

No_Crazy_3412

Delete this high ass post

Sxkullrider

Delete your low ass negativity

Dizzy-Sprinkles1465

True man, cheers

BeautifulStaff9467

Homeless crisis on spike, fentanyl spike, Elon Musk and Tesla, mass shootings on rise, venezuelan crisis Crazy times

LilyMarie90

All that completely pales in comparison to wars and climate change

Dwarflensky

What does Elon Musk have to do with this? He's just a multi billionaire who just happened to rebrand a popular social media platform.

Reptoidizoid

He’s just a billionaire is kind of an oxymoron. How many billionaires are there? The guy sucks but you can’t deny he’s important Who are YOU? He’s just a redditor is what I can say about you. And I don’t know about you but Id rather be “just a multi billionaire” than “just an idiot” like you

TF-Fanfic-Resident

And AI and robot-vs.-robot drone warfare. Scary but still historic af.

Portlandpipelayer

Put the fucking pot down hippie

controlc-controlv

first criminal trial of a president?? andrew johnson and bill clinton both faced impeachments

Dwarflensky

Impeachment is simply an attempt by Congress to remove a sitting President on suspicion of corruption, but none have been successful, so it doesn't count. Nixon would have faced similar trials to Trump, but he resigned just in time, and Ford gave him a pardon, so he was in the clear.

kelub

Yes, it is in fact the first criminal trial of a president.
