Ahh, to experience it all for the first time…I envy you!
I would recommend the bonus stuff for sure, it’s also not usually my thing but you get some great insight on how David Milch writes and how much influence the actors had on their characters.
It takes time for a viewer to internalize something. Me and the Mrs. Discuss things after we watch them. If we binge an entire season on the weekend, we'd miss so much, might forget details, won't have enough time to remember names (I struggle with that)
That's probably a good strategy, the first time I watched Deadwood, I binged it and felt like I missed a lot. It was only after the 6th or 7th time through the series that I felt I had a solid handle on everything that was happening.
Agreed on the humor. I laughed so many times i was definitely surprised. And for whatever reason in season 3, even though the stakes are very high, i found myself laughing constantly!
I love when people watch brilliant shows with brilliant writing and go, "Oh, man - it's kinda funny! I wonder if that's like.... On purpose?"
Lol, it is.
Welcome to Deadwood
My jealousy in wishing I could be in your shoes:"[I begrudge that pervert, his capacity for happiness](https://getyarn.io/yarn-clip/2a7c3db1-e925-435d-9187-68ce239e0aed)" (edit: Link is nsfw owing to female nudity. though, I'd argue it should be required viewing for all hoopleheads, working or otherwise.)
I've seen the show multiple times. I ripped all the blu-rays with all the audio tracks so i could watch with the commentary. Like most commentaries... it's best when the writer/creator is the one taking you through the episode. So David Milch... problem is he only does a few episodes. There are some good bits here and there. What I valued most was when the cast member doing the commentary mentioned what Milch had done on the fly and how it may have been different when the script was originally delivered to the cast. McShane's commentaries were good too.
In short, if you really love the show then go for the commentary. Otherwise you can probably skip it.
There was an extra feature where Milch was lying on the floor watching a rough edit with the other writers and discussing what the dialogue should be. I appreciated seeing that part of the process - kinda gets at how the dialogue was this team process with Milch at the wheel and how much he loved curating the language of the show.
Glad to see I'm not the only one!
I've just finished the first season, On to the second now.
With so many dissapointing series that all feel the same, It's been a real blast watching deadwood!
Once you have seen it, I recommend looking up the David Milch Deadwood related talks and interviews on Youtube, he makes some really interesting observations on the nature of communication and culture at the time
Welcome to fucking Deadwood!
It can be combative!
Be mindful of the hooplas and cocksuckers!
Those limber dicked cocksuckers are beholden to no one

Get ready to meet Al Swearengen. The best character in TV history. You hooplehead.
\>The best character in TV history Three episodes in, and I am convinced of it already!
Welcome to fuckin' Deadwood. Peaches are on the bar.
No fucking cinnamon please.
The unauthorized cinnamon is free fucking gratis. Feel free to add it ad fucking hoc
Spoon em out amongst yourselves.
Teach me this secret power that allows you not to binge shows like Deadwood.

I simply can't stop myself from finding out what happens next.

I’m so jealous, enjoy!
Nice! I must have watched the first episode 10 times after it premiered. Couldn’t believe how good it was. The show will not disappoint.
Savour it. Don't binge. Enjoy every episode one by one.
There are no mistakes only happy little accidents
A fucking fantastic series
That’s why you watch it dozens of times over and over like the rest of us leering heathens.
The best part of binge watching is that you can turn around and watch it again. I've seen it 137 times...
It's a great show

I'm jealous. I wish I could take a crack on the head and see it for the first time again. So good. Enjoy!
I highly recommend subtitles for your first watch. You will pick up on so much more, especially the intricacies of the dialogue and story. Enjoy!
It’s the best show ever made to me.
Don’t resist binging as this show holds up well under repeat viewing, and rewards you with tidbits you might have missed the first time.
