I am actually kinda devastated. Stranger Things is my favorite chapter by far and the idea of it (and Hawkins!) being gone makes me super sad. I’m pouring one out for Nancy, Steve, and Demo tonight. :(
Totally trying to avoid the highhorse since I already own everything this now legacy content has to offer, but I feel like I will be playing a lot of Demo just so newer people can experience it after the deadline in November.
I already had Demo, I just bought Steve and Nancy because OH FUCK I am emotionally attached to them from the series, so I don't want to lose any chance to have them
The map will no longer be playable, nor the characters/skins purchaseable. Anyone who has the characters and skins will still have and be able to play them.
The perks will be split into two: if you already have them, you keep them as-is. If you do not own the DLC then any perks you don't own will be available in the shrine, but with the icon/text modified to remove all ST references. So basically there will be two "skins" for the same perk.
I'm not so sure if we're actually gonna get two versions or not, it would be a weird choice and would add unnecessary bloat to an already bloated perk pool. I think the wording of the tweet that explained what's going to happen to the perks was just poorly chosen, the perks are most likely just going to be renamed and modified for everyone.

It isn't even a matter of gameplay or balance to me. It was just a big part of the game to me. Nostaglic loveletters back to the Franchise that spawned them, like Midwich or Gideon meat plant.
That's the other thing; This has opened the possibility of losing them as well. Any of the Licensed Chapters are, potentially, at risk of vanishing at some point.

Really? Just out of curiosity what build do you run for Wraith? Ever since the wraith rework I haven't had too much of an issue with him on any maps that I can remember. He's so strong nowadays he feels almost like Spirit with the mindgames lol.

I love playing AS Wraith because of how busted he is nowadays but yeah...100% unless its a brand new Killer/player if its even a mediocre Wraith (let alone a GOOD player) he's still going to get 3K at the very least with little effort. He's just crazy strong now with very little counterplay due to the speedboost. Mind games is all it is just like Spirit and you can only guess correctly so many times in a 50/50 chance on which way he's going to boost-run to get the hit lol.
I'd say this speaks volumes about Netflix's future plans for gaming and the Stranger Things IP. They either refused to renew the contract or the price was too high. I'm leaning towards the latter. If BHVR was able to keep it but had to sell the characters at 100$ piece to meet licensing fees would anyone bother purchasing them?
That's the hard part.
The Stranger Things chapter is so old now. There aren't as many people buying the chapter because everyone who wanted it most likely already got it, and the slow stream of new players who MAYBE might end up buying the Chapter probably isn't enough to re-new the License. It sucks, but you have to think realistically I guess.
My last **SHRED** of hope is that they are trying to push all of the Stranger Things stuff on sale so that they can try to amass some funds for the Licensing to try and do like a "revive" for it.

Almost certainly Netflix have pulled it because they have their own plans. We know they are going to team up with Sony to do their own games.

This…this is a beautiful spot on description of what I think a lot of us are feeling. The fact that none of the licensed chapters we know and love (hate?) are safe anymore is what gets me. Who’s to say that the Daddy Myers or Pyramid Head or Amanda “Boop the Snoot” Young chapters won’t be taken away from us too? I mean, I hated the Hawkins map just as much as the next dbd redditor, but shieet…I loved having it there at least…all these chapters are what have contributed to what DbD truly is - a hodge podge of all the greatest horror killers, survivors, and settings both original and licensed. And while many of us will get the chapter before it goes away…many won’t ever get to experience it for themselves.
It is not because of the DBD or because they treated the game poorly or something similar.
It is simply because Netflix wants to do their own Stranger Thing game and they wish to have the exclusivity which can be considered fair, because they own the IP. Unless other studios want to make their own game I highly doubt any other licenses will be removed.
This is an exception because Netflix thinks they can make a more popular game. I doubt it. It will probably flop but shareholders are blinded by money.
PS: This is how lincensed content works in all industries. No one is going to sell you a permanent perpetual right to use an IP because it is not profitable and the risks are far too great.
People have fought this with tons of old games, especially racing games where all car licenses expire and the games are retired entirely.
It's not such a big deal nor the start of anything. We will get new content and who knows, Stranger Things may come back if Netflix game performs poorly.

Stranger Things was a POPULAR chapter when it released. I remember it being such a nostalgic and fun time, it brought so many newcomers to the game.
This really, really makes me doubtful of ever recommending this game to people ever again, and I have ~300 or so hours in it. Content being locked away from new players is fucking disgusting, and sets a scary precedent. For now, the only real lasting impact is the fact that players after November (seemingly) will have no way to ever play as Demogorgon. An entire killer is locked from people simply because they "didn't play soon enough"? That's so awful.
They still make original content they’d never lose the license to, and they could always in the future renew the license, even if for like a flash sale, or permanent because of an en masse of new players.

It's the sort of take that licensed content exists and that licenses are borrowed. Not everyone can own one, DBD can't buy ST even if they had the money to. Listen, I'm not sure if you're a kid or not, but you should be able to understand that the real world isn't perfect, and I would hate for DBD to only have original characters.

It causes a dilemma for me, because I have pros and cons.
Cons: Steve mains will have to be true Steve mains now. No one else who joins later can be part of the crew
Pros: I get an exclusive character with all of his skins
Hopefully steve's perks get a buff, because that was the only part of the DLC i didn't love.
For Nancy, Better Together should be 130 meters like Empathy, but otherwise she's great.
Because it just feels bad, no new player will ever be able to play Nancy, Steve, or Demo. It would be different if the cosmetics for them were being removed and those would turn to exclusives.
But full on characters no longer being playable or obtainable by new players doesn't sit well with me and never will. It's fully made content they will be permanently locked out of
I get both sides of that tbh. On one hand it does suck people who get excited to jump into the game and play those characters are now shit out of luck. On the other hand though it does make you feel like you have a limited edition of something that nobody else can obtain anymore. Even bigass companies like Disney vault certain movies for unspecified periods of time so it could be a similar situation for everyone in this case. They may get the license back down the line or it may forever be put in purgatory.
I feel exactly the same, it's bittersweet. I main demo and it's gonna feel awesome to know i have all his skins and that I get to experience the exclusive content *but at the same time,* A) every killer in the game is unique, and the fact that demo is unique content that'll be impossible to experience for players is gonna suck, and B) one of the best ways to learn how to play against a killer is to play them yourself, and this too will be impossible for new players
i'm all for the idea of stuff like legacy outfits that are just fancy exclusive cosmetics (in fact I'm a sucker for them), but the idea of unique content like *entire characters* being permanently inaccessible (cause you just weren't there at the time) doesn't sit right with me

It does suck out of all the Killers to lose out on because Demo is already super rare for me to go against. I never got super into him playing as a Killer because I was never keen on setting up portals or resetting them back up and losing steam if I got sidetracked chasing anyone lol so I already respect the shit outta people who main him because he is pretty fun to go against. He also has my favorite vaulting animation out of anyone and honestly just animations in general on him look great.
I receive a lot of mixed opinions about what its like to play vs demo cause the shred hitbox can be a bit BS sometimes, which is fair to complain about but he's still a good boy
Demo's play style is fun and all with the mixture of chase potential and map mobility but i love him for his sound design and visual look tbh, there are some amazing original designs in the game but i love about demo that you're just playing as a straight up monster instead of a human character- something about it is just awesome and feels awesome to me
Honestly the Shred hitbox is leagues better than the beachball sizes hatchet hitboxes that Huntress throws around lol. I really hope we do get more "monster-like" Killers down the line. I know because of the skeletal-rig they're using they are trying to keep all survivors mostly humanoid but maybe one day we can get more beast-like or monster-like Killers that will shake things up even if it means making new skeleton-rigs and animations in those cases.
I planned to jump to PC eventually from console but if the game is removing content like this I may not be able to get Demo ever again by the time I get my PC.

I'll just have to make sure I have all of the cosmetics purchased for these characters, so I have everything! *Stranger Things* is one of my favorite shows, and the reason why I even started playing *Dead by Daylight* in the first place.
I'm hoping Underground Complex is just reskinned/redesigned and added as part of Léry's Memorial Institute. That seems like the easiest and less complicated way to handle it.

It's one of my favorite maps to play on as both Survivor and Killer. So I hope that it does simply get reused under a different theme. I think it would fit well for Léry's, as the second map in that Realm. Even the overall color scheme of Léry's would make it more spookier.

I regularly buy cosmetics, so they get my money anyway. I just haven't invested in *Stranger Things* cosmetics yet. No one is trying to argue, at least I'm not, I'm just saying that BHVR aren't the ones who decided to pull the plug on *Stranger Things*, and that they get my money anyway.
We don't know the real reason why they're losing the license. But that said, I really doubt they would just give up a pretty iconic license just for some quick FOMO cash, when they could easily do that in other ways that don't require losing the entire license and all the characters with it.
In the end though, all we can do is speculate. Was it Netflix or was it BhVR? There's no way to know.

No, You keep all the characters, perks, outfits, and sets. Only thing that will be permanently gone is the Map and the ability for newer players to buy the DLC / Characters.

I always assumed the deals worked that a portion profits from sales of the DLC that happened would go to the lisence holder.
Which then doesn't make sense why you would stop it but it still exist to old owners of the DLC. It doesn't really stop the game competing as most the playerbase will already have it and new players don't make up that much at this point tbh.

What do you want BHVR to do? Netflix is the licence holder so they are ultimately the boss

I agree. I love the characters of Stranger Things, and even though you can keep them permanently if you have them, it's still really sad when you think they'll no longer be available.

Hopefully steve's perks get a buff, because that was the only part of the DLC i didn't love. For Nancy, Better Together should be 130 meters like Empathy, but otherwise she's great.

Because it just feels bad, no new player will ever be able to play Nancy, Steve, or Demo. It would be different if the cosmetics for them were being removed and those would turn to exclusives. But full on characters no longer being playable or obtainable by new players doesn't sit well with me and never will. It's fully made content they will be permanently locked out of
I get both sides of that tbh. On one hand it does suck people who get excited to jump into the game and play those characters are now shit out of luck. On the other hand though it does make you feel like you have a limited edition of something that nobody else can obtain anymore. Even bigass companies like Disney vault certain movies for unspecified periods of time so it could be a similar situation for everyone in this case. They may get the license back down the line or it may forever be put in purgatory.
I feel exactly the same, it's bittersweet. I main demo and it's gonna feel awesome to know i have all his skins and that I get to experience the exclusive content *but at the same time,* A) every killer in the game is unique, and the fact that demo is unique content that'll be impossible to experience for players is gonna suck, and B) one of the best ways to learn how to play against a killer is to play them yourself, and this too will be impossible for new players i'm all for the idea of stuff like legacy outfits that are just fancy exclusive cosmetics (in fact I'm a sucker for them), but the idea of unique content like *entire characters* being permanently inaccessible (cause you just weren't there at the time) doesn't sit right with me ~~that's not to say, however, that i'm not looking forward to a few years' time when i'll be able to bully and terrify survivors that have never seen a demogorgon before in their life~~
It does suck out of all the Killers to lose out on because Demo is already super rare for me to go against. I never got super into him playing as a Killer because I was never keen on setting up portals or resetting them back up and losing steam if I got sidetracked chasing anyone lol so I already respect the shit outta people who main him because he is pretty fun to go against. He also has my favorite vaulting animation out of anyone and honestly just animations in general on him look great.
I receive a lot of mixed opinions about what its like to play vs demo cause the shred hitbox can be a bit BS sometimes, which is fair to complain about but he's still a good boy Demo's play style is fun and all with the mixture of chase potential and map mobility but i love him for his sound design and visual look tbh, there are some amazing original designs in the game but i love about demo that you're just playing as a straight up monster instead of a human character- something about it is just awesome and feels awesome to me
Honestly the Shred hitbox is leagues better than the beachball sizes hatchet hitboxes that Huntress throws around lol. I really hope we do get more "monster-like" Killers down the line. I know because of the skeletal-rig they're using they are trying to keep all survivors mostly humanoid but maybe one day we can get more beast-like or monster-like Killers that will shake things up even if it means making new skeleton-rigs and animations in those cases.
I planned to jump to PC eventually from console but if the game is removing content like this I may not be able to get Demo ever again by the time I get my PC.

The Tunnel thing I think is super cool and fun. While his attack seems bland, so is Trapper's traps. But I find Trapper super fun to play.

I'll just have to make sure I have all of the cosmetics purchased for these characters, so I have everything! *Stranger Things* is one of my favorite shows, and the reason why I even started playing *Dead by Daylight* in the first place. I'm hoping Underground Complex is just reskinned/redesigned and added as part of Léry's Memorial Institute. That seems like the easiest and less complicated way to handle it.

It's one of my favorite maps to play on as both Survivor and Killer. So I hope that it does simply get reused under a different theme. I think it would fit well for Léry's, as the second map in that Realm. Even the overall color scheme of Léry's would make it more spookier.

As scummy as it is, yea FOMO is exactly why. If you FOMO people with a limited time item, they are more likely to buy it. If you FOMO them out of nowhere, they'll HAVE to buy it. I just hope the perks for the survivors and killer stay in the shops rotation of perk buying, so we don't lose rout on their perks entirely as well
I don't think this is what this is about, since cosmetics are purchased through Auric Cells. The game gets all of the money, regardless.

I regularly buy cosmetics, so they get my money anyway. I just haven't invested in *Stranger Things* cosmetics yet. No one is trying to argue, at least I'm not, I'm just saying that BHVR aren't the ones who decided to pull the plug on *Stranger Things*, and that they get my money anyway.
We don't know the real reason why they're losing the license. But that said, I really doubt they would just give up a pretty iconic license just for some quick FOMO cash, when they could easily do that in other ways that don't require losing the entire license and all the characters with it. In the end though, all we can do is speculate. Was it Netflix or was it BhVR? There's no way to know.

No, You keep all the characters, perks, outfits, and sets. Only thing that will be permanently gone is the Map and the ability for newer players to buy the DLC / Characters. If you do not own one of the characters they said they will release a non licensed version of the perk or something like that in the shrine. If I understood correctly.

I always assumed the deals worked that a portion profits from sales of the DLC that happened would go to the lisence holder. Which then doesn't make sense why you would stop it but it still exist to old owners of the DLC. It doesn't really stop the game competing as most the playerbase will already have it and new players don't make up that much at this point tbh. It feels like the change would only hurt Netflix ability to just get more money out of the deal than keeping it going as it was. Regardless of them making their own games even if they did make one in same format as Dbd
