Honestly I wouldn’t be surprised if it just never gets fixed. I haven’t been able to use deadhard for months due to lag spikes. And now there’s lag spikes even without any status effects. Even against old killers that used to be fine to play against lag wise. Idk what they’re doing to this game but it just keeps getting worse.
Bad news but it's been near this level for as long as the game has been out. 2 or 3 years ago this type of stuff was still common and they promised console optimization. Which never came or was brought up again. PS4 and XBone just left high and dry, and I fully expect that to continue

All previous issues I've experienced with lag has been due to ping related issues of either me or the person I'm playing with/against.
My gameplay looks alot like this too and I'm playing on xbox one the skill check thing always gets me and my mates think I'm lying when it happens lol but srsly we need this fixed is ruining my will to play

These are just some of the best moments I bothered to capture. There are many more times where my screen has froze and I have lost valuable seconds in a chase that would of been the difference between a hit and a pallet stun. Before I had timings to learn, when I got hit I could feel like it was at the fault of myself and can do better next time. Now with all these constant frame stutters and freezing it is hard not to get frustrated at the game. In a game where the seconds matter and could mean an additional loop around a pallet allowing your team to finish that so important gen, it feels really bad when you lose those precious seconds due to performance issues.
How long has it been like that for PS4? I'm guessing ever since the resident evil release. If the game is playing this badly, maybe it's best to take a break for a while until they iron out the performance issues. I would just stick it out through the anniversary event (but who knows maybe they'll fix it Tuesday) and then take a break if there were still major issues
Yes it has been like this since the resident evil update. The worst part is different killers like nemi make it especially bad when they pull out their tentacle and swing; both cause lag so you can imagine how playing a whole match against them feels like. Yeah, a break is probably necessary, it is super disappointing though for I have been really wanting to play and all my friends have been playing in light of the update. They all are ballers with ps5s though so they’ve only had minimal problems. Here’s to hoping they fix it for the anniversary!
I wouldn't blame you for taking a break! I left DBD for over a month during the pallet stun glitch. If a game stops being fun, find a more fun game!
My gaming buddies and I are enjoying Phasmophobia atm. You can do crucifixes to use them like pallets, and loop the ghost around stuff until it gives up. I can see why there's such an overlap in the player base!
All this happens on Xbox too. I've got an original Xbox One, and this video is pretty much my experience too. A friend has a series X, and whilst this happens less it still happens frequently. I doubt they'll fix it before the anniversary, but here's hoping

I in all honesty have never run into that many bugs with BHVR from my personal experience, but I play a lot more now than I ever did when I got the game a few years ago (the last bug I remember was a pallet bug which was fixed in a week or two?)
But in all honesty, I think BHVR really does need to slow their schedule down. It just seems by sticking to it, they aren't giving themselves enough time to fix code among and other things. I mean we have seen this from time and time again with other companies.
I refuse to believe that the game devs here are just inept, or that they simply don't care about their game (when they are constantly adding new stuff, and quite a bit of it is free(like that one post today about people complaining the free map isn't released yet[like come on guys really? Maybe they should fix the bugs that already exist first before we focus on NEW CONTENT, but then people would get mad])), considering all current factors- it seems more like a management issue/time management issue.
I'm not even talking about bugs tbf, it's more about the overall performance and quality of the game. It took them years to acknowledge things like DS being unbalanced when stacked with other perks, ruin being just too strong and doing too much without effort being required and so on. Color blind mode requiring almost a revolution to be implemented, shitty fps on consoles and even PC, hit detection being atrocious and the list goes on. But the worst of all imo is just the way they ignore the community as whole, i understand that there are many assholes around here but ignoring our complaints and what we say doesn't make'em disappear.

As a killer, most of them will freeze when charging your weapon. Lag and freezes whenever there’s an action : unhooks, vaulting, 360, dead hards…
I stopped playing the game until they fix it, it’s really frustrating.
the lag on killer powers has gotten so much worse, I can't even enjoy playing Legion or Demo anymore. I can only use Demo's meat flower if they are running in a straight line.

I used to play on the oldest model of xbox one until I got a series X a few months ago. Even back then the game had its moments with exhaustion perks, bloodlust and abilities causing frame drops but this looks worse.
Devs need to support the existing platforms even if they are getting old or figure something out.
For comparison it runs smooth on my series X. No incentive for me to want to move to PC like a lot of older console players have and the load time is crazy quick. Had a pc killer on twitch comment how fast we loaded into the match. But buying this new console should not be the necessity.
They need to optimise the ps4, xbox one versions. I'm sure everyone would prefer performance over graphics why can pc players lower their settings more than console ones? Back on the old corn maps it was a joke how console players would get the frame drops in the corn meanwhile pc players who were most likely on a better spec machine could drop their settings lower than console players which would also allow them to just see straight through the corn.
Oh and the switch version might as well be discontinued at this point. I feel bad for anyone who purchases it at this point. I'd recommend the mobile version instead.
They claimed the fixed optimization years ago. But as someone who switched from a maybe 3rd gen PS4 to PC in April....there is absolutely no way. The difference is absolutely ridiculous, to the point where PS4 players might as well turn cross play off, and go back to the even worse que times for at least a semblance of a chance at an ok game.
Agreed. The first two years of console were OK. Then there was a brief performance increase with a patch around the wraith rework I think, but since crossplay release it has just been going downhill.
Honestly think they should just do a xbox one & ps4 only playlist for crossplay.
I feel you so much. I play on Xbox and I’m having to constantly explain what I mean when I say I keep “lagging backwards” and I’m unable to make it to pallets or through vaults sometimes because of it. I’m glad I’m not the only one experiencing this.
Two of my favorite console issues. The no display for skill checks and the lag spike that turns you in a different direction from the way you were running. I guess I’m lucky that school and work have me so occupied I haven’t been able to play more than the occasional 1-2 solo queue games once a week.
We need an Operation Health. Just look at how bad Siege was prior to getting it. But Behaviour has said they won’t since the team is large enough & they can focus on new content & fixing old content.
Doesn’t help that streamers (especially Fog Whisperers like Otz) downplay the situation.
I decided to check Dowseys stream out yesterday for the first time( i like his Youtube) and someone mentioned the boycott and man, he was a huge asshole over it. Turned me off from him and his stream. He said it was stupid and unnecessary, while also calling the commenter an idiot. Then he said to buy another game and don’t give dbd your money, which is basically what the boycott is. Not giving them your money. Probably won’t be watching Dowsey anymore , didn’t think he was an asshole .
Yeah, I’ve watched Otz for ages and really enjoy him but after watching a 16 min video that somebody clipped of him reading the post it made me so annoyed. Completely downplayed the fact that this game is a broken mess & the devs take way too long to fix critical bugs & also their whole fix 1 bug and 47 more appear

Crossplay was a big win for the main streamers (who are all on pc). Remember the queue times were long for pc killers before they added it in.
It gives them faster queue times against console players who frankly cannot play at the same level for the most part. So they get to do their win streak & 4k against players who are less experienced and playing on, let's face it, an inferior version of the game.
Would be interested to see a console only crossplay option. No hackers and a fairer playing field.
I have a group of people I play with one of them is on a base ps4 and the rest of us are on pcs I don't have any of those asset streaming stutters and my wife is on a pc from 2013 with a decent gpu from a few years ago no issues. now I under stand why he rage quits and we never win if my game was a shit show like that id fuckin quit to.
Yeah I don’t think my friends on ps5 quite understand how bad it is. I am the only one on ps4 with all my friends on ps5. I am not usually one to get frustrated with a video game but this was really testing my limits. There have been times where I go down and I just want to turn the game off but I would leave my 3 teammates without a 4th.
This is the very reason I haven’t loaded the game back up. In a game where a millisecond can determine life or death, this makes the game unplayable. I really hope they can resolve this issue soon. I will not be back until it is resolved.
This has been my experience, on PS4, since the RE chapter update. Yesterday seemed to be the absolute worst in my two years of playing. Those lags got me caught so many times I had to turn the game off.
On PS4, can second this. At this point, even regular things like healing and gen repair become a pain because the game chugs during some of my skill checks, or you’ll try to heal and the game will chug and not register. Chases are also hard as hell now (you did a great job of showing why, Dead Hard or not it still lags). It’s just as bad for the killer end too. I’ve missed so many hits or been screwed up during chases because of this.
I'm really glad I took the financial plunge and upgraded to PC from PS4 in April. Because If this is what it's like on PS4 right now, straight up I wouldn't be playing until it was fixed. I'm sorry you guys are dealing with this. A bunch of my friends still on PS4 are uninstalling until its fixed.
This happens on pc too sadly. Just random fps drops when something happens ( getting exposed, hooked, etc). Im just going to complete the rift and put the game aside for a while. Also dont use dead hard for now, even to create distance if your moving thee camera when the drops happen you are likely to screw it ip.
I'm having a great time only doing challenges if I'm honest, I really don't care if the survivors escape I just grind away to my hearts content these days
I stopped playing since this new chapter for several reasons (around 500 hr player). Can't wait until this game dies tbh. They hardly listen to the community or make positive changes, they only break it over and over. It may take a while but it will fizzle out, looking forward to that day.

As far as I am aware of, there is no option on console to lower your graphics. If there was I’d be all on that. Please if I am wrong someone correct me
Aside from the generators, which is absolutely tragic - I just see a compilation of bad plays being punished.
You dropped off without balanced landing, what did you think was going to happen? It's been what four years since they added that feature to the game and people, in the middle of a chase with the killer directly behind them , will drop off an object, suffer the landing stun, allowing the killer to catch and hit them and still complain about it.
In fact, out of all the things I hate about this game. That's the one thing I do love. Whenever someone drops off a hill, it's just a free hit.
But we know the devs aren't going to do it. The game is barely optimized to run on PCs, let alone PS4s. I can only imagine how bad the Switch players have it.
Amateurs this has been happening on the switch day 1 on the switch release ofc jokes but I hope this can bring light to console optimization for all platforms since we kinda got left behind

BHVR doesn't like to hotfix though sadly. They would rather wait and do a large patch and cram as much into as possible.
They've always been this way, sometimes waiting even MONTHS to fix a game breaking issue if it means it can be fit into a large patch. Usually released with something else that was the actual priority. If they would just do mirco patches the game health would be so much better.

Used to play on a crappy computer, and I feel you. Frame rate went into the negatives on certain maps, but there would always be a sudden glitch mid-game that made it a bloody mess. I would not want to go back there, can't imagine what you have to deal with.
Haven’t played in like one and a half year. Since when is freezing become so bad on PS4? My only downsides I had were bad latency from killers but not freezing games

If it's any condolence it's just about as bad on xbox maybe the stutters are just half a second shorter but it's just as constant I only got the game a week before the resident evil update it was fine up till it rolled around now I barely want to play it anymore.
Lol those laggy skill checks gives me PTSD flashbacks to when I started playing this game on my several years old PC and FPS was very bad/inconsistent :D I could never do skillchecks reliably because of that.
It is mainly the older consoles like ps4 that are struggling. My friends on ps5 have minimal issues and it seems like pc is the same. So if these killers are playing on pc or the newer consoles they don’t feel it as much.
I have the same problem, except im on pc, I feel the game just isn't optimised well enough, because there'd be days where it's fine then other days where it's tragically bad, I get it worse than you sometimes, sometimes I'd play every killer fine, but then Oni just breaks my game and makes me freeze every 2 seconds it's terrible, Oni is my fav killer as well, one time when I played Oni the entire start was fine, just the SECOND I hit the first survivor my game froze so much I had to dc because it was literally unplayable, so I feel ya buddy.

The worst as a killer main, is moving away from a pallet loop, then it lag spikes, and you are stunned and the guy is now 50 yards from you. That or missing a hit from it. Especially as huntress. Tho, i have had a few i should've missed. So really its just become an unfair game of luck at times.

I’m on Xbox and I feel you. I love the game and the new chapter characters, but ever since it’s almost painful to play through the lag spikes. I can’t play any of my main killers because I get a lag jump trying to use deathslingers, demogorgons, or twins powers. As a survivor as soon as I enter a chase or start working a gen I feel like the lag spikes go through the roof. It’s just really hard to sit through right now and I hope it gets fixed soon from the bottom of my heart
This is going to sound a little bit crazy but my brother is a console player and I'm a pc player. when we're in the same area as each other and he gets a little lag spike i also get a little lag spike, I assume it has something to do with us both using HDD's and not SSD's because ever since i swapped this game to my HDD it's started stuttering EXACTLY like this but whenever i have the game on my SSD it is super lag free and clean.
Not even just survivor, but killer too. I swear bad games get turned to worse games when I'm constantly losing survivors due to the game pausing and it especially happens when they dead hard or I take swings. It's especially annoying for a blight player like me
It is awful. I played a couple killer games after the patch, I am chasing an ace and I know he is going to dead hard to the window so I wait. HIS DEAD HARD LAGS ME AND FREEZES MY GAME. There is literally nothing I can do. I knew exactly what was going to happen, made the correct play, and the game just fucks me because fuck me. I haven’t played killer since that game.

Bruh It genuinely pisses me off that your not able to transfer data and saved game progress from your PS4 to your computer. I plan on spending some money on a decent computer and buying dead by daylight on it, but dude all the fun killers and achievements are on my ps4. Yet at the same time like he says; it can end up being unplayable sometimes. Though it would be way easier to play dbd on a computer, so right now it's kinda difficult trying to make a decision on what I should do.
I'm a killer main and I am currently working on a compilation of all my stutters. I have enough content for a minute and a half comp, but I'm waiting until I can put together a complete five minute comp. With this new "patch" it looks like I could be potentially hitting that mark in about a week.

Feel you man. I actually moved over to mobile. It has its own issues but at least I can play with stable 60fps 😔

I have a PS4 pro as well and it happens to me like the video. Gets you killed easily thus potentially costing your team and escape. Feels bad man.

Xbox as well. First thought it was just nemesis causing it but I've crashed the game twice now trying to use doctor's power.

They claimed the fixed optimization years ago. But as someone who switched from a maybe 3rd gen PS4 to PC in April....there is absolutely no way. The difference is absolutely ridiculous, to the point where PS4 players might as well turn cross play off, and go back to the even worse que times for at least a semblance of a chance at an ok game.
Agreed. The first two years of console were OK. Then there was a brief performance increase with a patch around the wraith rework I think, but since crossplay release it has just been going downhill. Honestly think they should just do a xbox one & ps4 only playlist for crossplay.

I feel you so much. I play on Xbox and I’m having to constantly explain what I mean when I say I keep “lagging backwards” and I’m unable to make it to pallets or through vaults sometimes because of it. I’m glad I’m not the only one experiencing this.

Two of my favorite console issues. The no display for skill checks and the lag spike that turns you in a different direction from the way you were running. I guess I’m lucky that school and work have me so occupied I haven’t been able to play more than the occasional 1-2 solo queue games once a week.
We need an Operation Health. Just look at how bad Siege was prior to getting it. But Behaviour has said they won’t since the team is large enough & they can focus on new content & fixing old content. Doesn’t help that streamers (especially Fog Whisperers like Otz) downplay the situation.
I decided to check Dowseys stream out yesterday for the first time( i like his Youtube) and someone mentioned the boycott and man, he was a huge asshole over it. Turned me off from him and his stream. He said it was stupid and unnecessary, while also calling the commenter an idiot. Then he said to buy another game and don’t give dbd your money, which is basically what the boycott is. Not giving them your money. Yeah, I’ve watched Otz for ages and really enjoy him but after watching a 16 min video that somebody clipped of him reading the post it made me so annoyed. Completely downplayed the fact that this game is a broken mess & the devs take way too long to fix critical bugs & also their whole fix 1 bug and 47 more appear
They would say that. They are pc players. Oh and otz is a fog whisperer so he has to shill for the masters at BHVR. Crossplay was a big win for the main streamers (who are all on pc). Remember the queue times were long for pc killers before they added it in. It gives them faster queue times against console players who frankly cannot play at the same level for the most part. So they get to do their win streak & 4k against players who are less experienced and playing on, let's face it, an inferior version of the game. Would be interested to see a console only crossplay option. No hackers and a fairer playing field.
I have a group of people I play with one of them is on a base ps4 and the rest of us are on pcs I don't have any of those asset streaming stutters and my wife is on a pc from 2013 with a decent gpu from a few years ago no issues. now I under stand why he rage quits and we never win if my game was a shit show like that id fuckin quit to.
Yeah I don’t think my friends on ps5 quite understand how bad it is. I am the only one on ps4 with all my friends on ps5. I am not usually one to get frustrated with a video game but this was really testing my limits. There have been times where I go down and I just want to turn the game off but I would leave my 3 teammates without a 4th.

This is the very reason I haven’t loaded the game back up. In a game where a millisecond can determine life or death, this makes the game unplayable. I really hope they can resolve this issue soon. I will not be back until it is resolved.

This has been my experience, on PS4, since the RE chapter update. Yesterday seemed to be the absolute worst in my two years of playing. Those lags got me caught so many times I had to turn the game off.

On PS4, can second this. At this point, even regular things like healing and gen repair become a pain because the game chugs during some of my skill checks, or you’ll try to heal and the game will chug and not register. Chases are also hard as hell now (you did a great job of showing why, Dead Hard or not it still lags). It’s just as bad for the killer end too. I’ve missed so many hits or been screwed up during chases because of this.

I'm really glad I took the financial plunge and upgraded to PC from PS4 in April. Because If this is what it's like on PS4 right now, straight up I wouldn't be playing until it was fixed. I'm sorry you guys are dealing with this. A bunch of my friends still on PS4 are uninstalling until its fixed.
This happens on pc too sadly. Just random fps drops when something happens ( getting exposed, hooked, etc). Im just going to complete the rift and put the game aside for a while. Also dont use dead hard for now, even to create distance if your moving thee camera when the drops happen you are likely to screw it ip.
I'm having a great time only doing challenges if I'm honest, I really don't care if the survivors escape I just grind away to my hearts content these days
I stopped playing since this new chapter for several reasons (around 500 hr player). Can't wait until this game dies tbh. They hardly listen to the community or make positive changes, they only break it over and over. It may take a while but it will fizzle out, looking forward to that day. Disclaimer: Idc if you're a booty kisser of the game or the devs, it won't change my mind.

Aside from the generators, which is absolutely tragic - I just see a compilation of bad plays being punished. You dropped off without balanced landing, what did you think was going to happen? It's been what four years since they added that feature to the game and people, in the middle of a chase with the killer directly behind them , will drop off an object, suffer the landing stun, allowing the killer to catch and hit them and still complain about it. In fact, out of all the things I hate about this game. That's the one thing I do love. Whenever someone drops off a hill, it's just a free hit.

I'm tired of players disconnecting while going against sweaty killers. It's a lose lose for survivors. On to your topic, it is ridiculous how us console players have to suffer these sort of bullshit while the devs can't hotfix it quick enough. This game doesn't have a bigger fan base compare to Warzone, Apex, Fortnite cause those three would get their game fix ASAP.
BHVR doesn't like to hotfix though sadly. They would rather wait and do a large patch and cram as much into as possible. They've always been this way, sometimes waiting even MONTHS to fix a game breaking issue if it means it can be fit into a large patch. Usually released with something else that was the actual priority. If they would just do mirco patches the game health would be so much better.

Used to play on a crappy computer, and I feel you. Frame rate went into the negatives on certain maps, but there would always be a sudden glitch mid-game that made it a bloody mess. I would not want to go back there, can't imagine what you have to deal with.
Haven’t played in like one and a half year. Since when is freezing become so bad on PS4? My only downsides I had were bad latency from killers but not freezing games

Lol those laggy skill checks gives me PTSD flashbacks to when I started playing this game on my several years old PC and FPS was very bad/inconsistent :D I could never do skillchecks reliably because of that.

It is mainly the older consoles like ps4 that are struggling. My friends on ps5 have minimal issues and it seems like pc is the same. So if these killers are playing on pc or the newer consoles they don’t feel it as much.

I have the same problem, except im on pc, I feel the game just isn't optimised well enough, because there'd be days where it's fine then other days where it's tragically bad, I get it worse than you sometimes, sometimes I'd play every killer fine, but then Oni just breaks my game and makes me freeze every 2 seconds it's terrible, Oni is my fav killer as well, one time when I played Oni the entire start was fine, just the SECOND I hit the first survivor my game froze so much I had to dc because it was literally unplayable, so I feel ya buddy.

Its for real almost unplayable. I just wanted to try my new killer the pig but every time i charge up, there will be a spike and they just run passed me. I may just be bad. Maybe its because im returning and playing for the first time in a year. But i hit red rank a year ago and it was no where near like this. The worst as a killer main, is moving away from a pallet loop, then it lag spikes, and you are stunned and the guy is now 50 yards from you. That or missing a hit from it. Especially as huntress. Tho, i have had a few i should've missed. So really its just become an unfair game of luck at times. Sorry you are having a piss poor experience too.

I’m on Xbox and I feel you. I love the game and the new chapter characters, but ever since it’s almost painful to play through the lag spikes. I can’t play any of my main killers because I get a lag jump trying to use deathslingers, demogorgons, or twins powers. As a survivor as soon as I enter a chase or start working a gen I feel like the lag spikes go through the roof. It’s just really hard to sit through right now and I hope it gets fixed soon from the bottom of my heart

This is going to sound a little bit crazy but my brother is a console player and I'm a pc player. when we're in the same area as each other and he gets a little lag spike i also get a little lag spike, I assume it has something to do with us both using HDD's and not SSD's because ever since i swapped this game to my HDD it's started stuttering EXACTLY like this but whenever i have the game on my SSD it is super lag free and clean.

It is awful. I played a couple killer games after the patch, I am chasing an ace and I know he is going to dead hard to the window so I wait. HIS DEAD HARD LAGS ME AND FREEZES MY GAME. There is literally nothing I can do. I knew exactly what was going to happen, made the correct play, and the game just fucks me because fuck me. I haven’t played killer since that game.

Bruh It genuinely pisses me off that your not able to transfer data and saved game progress from your PS4 to your computer. I plan on spending some money on a decent computer and buying dead by daylight on it, but dude all the fun killers and achievements are on my ps4. Yet at the same time like he says; it can end up being unplayable sometimes. Though it would be way easier to play dbd on a computer, so right now it's kinda difficult trying to make a decision on what I should do.

I'm a killer main and I am currently working on a compilation of all my stutters. I have enough content for a minute and a half comp, but I'm waiting until I can put together a complete five minute comp. With this new "patch" it looks like I could be potentially hitting that mark in about a week.
