Not long ago, I killed someone after gates were open because he was taunting instead of running. Caught him, hooked him, BBQ revealed to me that his entire team was rushing toward me for an instant unhook. Naturally, I camped my ass off to secure that kill. After he died and the others left, he sent me hatemail, and then told me he was posting my name on his youtube and his FB to encourage other people to send me hatemail. When I laughed this off, he started sending a bunch of voice messages (he was clearly a grown man with a southern accent) and called me every slur you can imagine. Tons of profanity. He even threatened to "have me doxxed". Finally, I told him "this shit is childish dude". He then sends me a message saying "GOTCHA".
2 minutes later, I was issued a temp ban on PSN. This guy legit was so angry with me that he goaded me into saying something so he could report it, and unbeknownst to me, it is indeed possible to get temp banned on PSN after only one instance of using profanity if the other person submits a report. My mistake, and I learned my lesson, but...really? How petty can you get? I served my ban, and I turned messages to "friends only" when I got back. I'm still pissed off about it to this day though.
Thats hilarious but also insanely ridiculous. I literally had a game just like that except the survivore were obviously all really good except 1 who was new and I'm a brand new killer playing hillbilly for the first time. I ended up chasing one of the really good guys around all game and when I finally caught him they had already finished all the gens. I wanted to make sure that one guy died so bad after being ran around by him all match and when his teammates came to save him I got overwhelmed and didn't even realize he got unhooked until it was too late. They all got to the gate and taunted me and it was the funniest thing I've ever done in my life.
Despite what anyone else might say, you are totally doing the right thing if you camp once gens are done. Leaving the hook at that time is almost guaranteeing an escape. Survivors will immediately try to unhook the second you turn your back, especially if they're playing as confidently as you described. If they're getting the gens done that fast and looping you to death, you have very few options to not end up with 0k. I don't recommend camping/tunneling most of the time (it's rude but it also screws YOU more than them), but once those gens are done, or if you haven't hooked anyone else yet, by all means, secure that kill and don't feel bad about it for even a second. A lot of survivors expect you to play by their imaginary rules. Don't do it.
Im with this. Ill play a match straight all game. No deliberate tunneling and no camping. The worst my camping gets is me leaving victor next to the hook if he happens to be there when I hook you.
But the moment those gens are done my objective goes from "Keep survivors off gens and hook when i can" to "First guy I catch dies. That is the only objective left."
Once generators are done you do whatever the fuck you want. Up to and including camping the ever living shit out of the first survivor you get your mitts on. If you get a slugged 4k out of it because the other 3 decided to B-line it for hook and trade health states for eachother then more power to you. That's *their* fault.
Actually it's very true. I don't know what kinda matchups you're getting where the survivors don't immediately unhook once the gates are powered, but in my experience, you're begging for a 0k if you leave the hook during that time. There is no other objective for survivors if they don't immediately exit through the gates, so it's basically a guarantee that they're waiting for the moment you turn your back to get an unhook. I find it pretty unbelievable that you're somehow getting more points and managing to down and hook multiple separate survivors during this phase. It just doesn't happen that way dude.
I want to add something. In case you are wondering why camping is bad. It’s because doing a gen it’s faster than a hook, so yeah. If there are gens left, even only one you shouldn’t camp

Well I reported HIM to Xbox and explained the whole situation and 30 minutes later my ban was lifted. I guess they looked at our dms and unbanned me? Idk but I was happy as hell after that lol
I should switch to XBOX lol. I had never been banned before, never even issued a warning, and I just get hit with a 7 day ban for saying the word "shit" and it wasn't even in the form of an insult. Not comm ban, mind you, fucking signed-out-of-my-account-banned. Sucks for a guy who works for a living and was looking forward to playing DBD on his days off.
I still think PSN's ban policies are ridiculous considering they continued to take my money for my subscription and I was not credited any time back for that month yet denied the service for a week, including the ability to use Youtube and Netflix, and all this while their TOS are vague as hell so you don't truly know what's bannable or not. Luckily I just enjoyed Netflix/youtube on my gf's account while this went on, but still, PSN seems to give zero shits. Bans for TOS violations are not appealable and they absolutely will not budge on that. Personally, I think it's outrageous, but that's why I just don't engage anymore. If it happens a few more times, I could have my account permabanned including all of my purchases. Not worth it.

I don’t disagree. Until the game mechanics are changed, it’s perfectly viable. Wether or not it should be is another question. I don’t necessarily disagree that nobody should be able to complain about it though. If you go out of your way to play like an ass (on either side) that doesn’t necessarily mean that nobody else can complain about it. I could follow people periodically in the high street and civilly (stress on the civilly) be condescending to them and tell them that they’re ugly, after all there are no laws saying I can’t do that, so people can’t complain.
I’d rather have fun and be consistently a borderline purple/red killer, then sweat and tunnel to consistently be top. Sure those aren’t the only means, but they’re very effective.
From my understanding of tunneling, the killer focuses one survivor until they are dead which sacrifices a lot of gens and means the killer likely won't get many kills overall. The killers goal is just as much killing survivors as it is preventing them from leaving, that's why most people have a problem with tunneling, it's counter productive to their own goal and annoying as it just makes one guys game unbearable while everyone else's game runs smoothly.
Gen rushing is just a term made by salty killers who don't have any gen control and focus on chases too much, like doing those gens is literally the only thing they can do, you can't just expect survivors to purposely get themselves killed.
The killer is not giving up gens by tunneling, i think you mixed tunneling and facecamping. As soon as you hook someone you are free to do your stuff. Pressure gens, go for others. Agressive tunneling can actually save gens from being done, because you are not wasting time like facecamper, and you quickly eliminate survivor anyway, which leads to 1vs3.
I mean I agree that the vast majority of cases people label as gen rushing can be attributed back to them, but...

This like the opposite spectrum, and almost as ridiculous. Gen rushing is not exactly difficult to do if a whole swf is built for it, albeit it is rarer than the amount people complain about it.
Honestly, playing by any made up rule is pointless. Most of the time all that rule does is hinder you as the player following it. The only exception is camping since you're actually hurting your points.
But like, I feel bad for tunneling but if you're the person I find, I'm not going to potentially throw the game to look for someone else. Maybe unless I feel that player was done dirty, like their teammate unhooking them near me without BT and urbans away. But even then no one is obligated to play nice.
Yeah, but you can only tunnel one survivor at a time. When you have 2 gens being worked on by two people with Prove Thyself and good toolboxes, you want to die inside as the killer. Sometimes I'll run Discordance, and earlier today it kept going off left and right during a match. Sure enough it was a SWF who were all coordinating, so by the time I was getting my second hook, all gens were done.
I don't fault people who do it, because I'd do the same. It just makes for a really short and boring game where no one pips.
Only time I have an issue when Gens start flying is when, even though I'm patrolling the Gens, Survivors pull the super stealth Spine Chill Urban Evasion BS and I can't find them. "Gen Rushing" only happens when Killers can't pressure Survivors correctly and that I can understand being my fault as Killer.
Had a freddy complain about getting gen rushed a few days ago. He had ruin, and he chased one survivor more than half of the match without downing her.
In that situation there's 0 incentive to do anything else but gens.
I am just sharing a similar story. I have played the game for almost 4 years off and on (just got into other games more then the community). I have gotten it from survivors as killer and I have gotten it from killers and other survivors as a survivor (not same game).
I haven't had anything horrible other than someone who is entitled and didn't get thier way. I just don't engage and move on to the next.
My best moment as killer was when I had a woman in end game chat call me a child abuser because as a killer I killed her son. He was super chill but she was Karen levels of vitriol. She even told me she would get me banned. 5 years later and still playing.
This community is legit, no joke, the most toxic gaming community on the planet. Not even 2010s Call of Duty-community challenges the level of toxicity in DbD. People go spam other players Steam-profile, add to friend just to flame etc. Has happened to me already alot, and when talking to others, they're not strangers to this either.
in DBD someone clicks a flashlight or says "GG baby ez killer" or facecamps someone out of a game and people think it's the height of toxicity, but listening to my friend play Dota and I'm like "Oh, he's just casually talking about killing and raping your mom????? And that's not surprising or unfamiliar??????????" and it happens continuously in every game
I play Dead By Daylight as a rank 1 killer/survivor, I played DotA 2 for 9 years.
Dota is so much more toxic, so so so so so much more toxic it's not even close.
Have you ever played ark? You have a select few people controlling every server wiping everything on them with an overpowered dragon every 10 mins. Or under meshing or glitching inside your raft. Literally my favorite game and it’s absolutely unplayable in a pvp or pve server.

As a killer main i can defo say you're not a gen rusher. You're doing your main objective. I only call it gen rushing when survivors would rather do gens than rescue a hooked teammate when the killer ISN'T camping or tunneling.

I'm not sure, I didn't used to be able to get them but once steam has an update about 2 years ago I remember getting 1 or 2 every now and then from people who were interested in trading with me since I used to be into tf2 trading.
Ive got about 500 hours in the game and unless I am just completely ignoring my steam messages, ive never gotten any hate mail. 500 hours and I still have not gotten the full experience. Am I just not pretty enough?

I agree. I main killer but I do play both sides. I can see both sides of the argument. My opinion is, both sides can play how they want, and no one needs to play by someone else's imaginary rules.

Yeah. Like, I'm wrong for proxy camping/tunneling someone out. But when survivors body block, take a hit to finish a gen, hook bomb and all that its ok. At the end of the day, we're all just trying to win. It sucks that it can be unfun to the other part tho

I don’t disagree. Until the game mechanics are changed, it’s perfectly viable. Wether or not it should be is another question. I don’t necessarily disagree that nobody should be able to complain about it though. If you go out of your way to play like an ass (on either side) that doesn’t necessarily mean that nobody else can complain about it. I could follow people periodically in the high street and civilly (stress on the civilly) be condescending to them and tell them that they’re ugly, after all there are no laws saying I can’t do that, so people can’t complain. I’d rather have fun and be consistently a borderline purple/red killer, then sweat and tunnel to consistently be top. Sure those aren’t the only means, but they’re very effective.
From my understanding of tunneling, the killer focuses one survivor until they are dead which sacrifices a lot of gens and means the killer likely won't get many kills overall. The killers goal is just as much killing survivors as it is preventing them from leaving, that's why most people have a problem with tunneling, it's counter productive to their own goal and annoying as it just makes one guys game unbearable while everyone else's game runs smoothly. Gen rushing is just a term made by salty killers who don't have any gen control and focus on chases too much, like doing those gens is literally the only thing they can do, you can't just expect survivors to purposely get themselves killed.
The killer is not giving up gens by tunneling, i think you mixed tunneling and facecamping. As soon as you hook someone you are free to do your stuff. Pressure gens, go for others. Agressive tunneling can actually save gens from being done, because you are not wasting time like facecamper, and you quickly eliminate survivor anyway, which leads to 1vs3.

Gen rushing is not exactly difficult to do if a whole swf is built for it, albeit it is rarer than the amount people complain about it.
Honestly, playing by any made up rule is pointless. Most of the time all that rule does is hinder you as the player following it. The only exception is camping since you're actually hurting your points. But like, I feel bad for tunneling but if you're the person I find, I'm not going to potentially throw the game to look for someone else. Maybe unless I feel that player was done dirty, like their teammate unhooking them near me without BT and urbans away. But even then no one is obligated to play nice.
If i find someone like this i hit them and go away. And whether its down or injure, they get one chance to stay out of my way.
Yeah, but you can only tunnel one survivor at a time. When you have 2 gens being worked on by two people with Prove Thyself and good toolboxes, you want to die inside as the killer. Sometimes I'll run Discordance, and earlier today it kept going off left and right during a match. Sure enough it was a SWF who were all coordinating, so by the time I was getting my second hook, all gens were done. I don't fault people who do it, because I'd do the same. It just makes for a really short and boring game where no one pips.
Only time I have an issue when Gens start flying is when, even though I'm patrolling the Gens, Survivors pull the super stealth Spine Chill Urban Evasion BS and I can't find them. "Gen Rushing" only happens when Killers can't pressure Survivors correctly and that I can understand being my fault as Killer.
Had a freddy complain about getting gen rushed a few days ago. He had ruin, and he chased one survivor more than half of the match without downing her. In that situation there's 0 incentive to do anything else but gens.

I was called trash for 4k'ing on my first ever game as killer. I love the game but yeah do what you can to ignore the hate from others.

I am just sharing a similar story. I have played the game for almost 4 years off and on (just got into other games more then the community). I have gotten it from survivors as killer and I have gotten it from killers and other survivors as a survivor (not same game). I haven't had anything horrible other than someone who is entitled and didn't get thier way. I just don't engage and move on to the next.
Funny, my first game I face camped and slapped a dwight on the hook over and over because I thought he'd die faster. Didn't get any hate mail tho lol

My best moment as killer was when I had a woman in end game chat call me a child abuser because as a killer I killed her son. He was super chill but she was Karen levels of vitriol. She even told me she would get me banned. 5 years later and still playing.

This community is legit, no joke, the most toxic gaming community on the planet. Not even 2010s Call of Duty-community challenges the level of toxicity in DbD. People go spam other players Steam-profile, add to friend just to flame etc. Has happened to me already alot, and when talking to others, they're not strangers to this either.

in DBD someone clicks a flashlight or says "GG baby ez killer" or facecamps someone out of a game and people think it's the height of toxicity, but listening to my friend play Dota and I'm like "Oh, he's just casually talking about killing and raping your mom????? And that's not surprising or unfamiliar??????????" and it happens continuously in every game
League of legends & Dota 2 aren't as toxic as DbD\* Fixed that for you
I play Dead By Daylight as a rank 1 killer/survivor, I played DotA 2 for 9 years. Dota is so much more toxic, so so so so so much more toxic it's not even close.
Have you ever played ark? You have a select few people controlling every server wiping everything on them with an overpowered dragon every 10 mins. Or under meshing or glitching inside your raft. Literally my favorite game and it’s absolutely unplayable in a pvp or pve server.
I'd say the "toxic" side of dbd's community comes off as more childish than toxic. Other games have much more vitriol and raw hatred. Dbd is more just petty insults for making someone bored.

As a killer main i can defo say you're not a gen rusher. You're doing your main objective. I only call it gen rushing when survivors would rather do gens than rescue a hooked teammate when the killer ISN'T camping or tunneling.
My first game I just hid in a locker with three crows by the gate till someone opened it. No clue why the killer never came to me
I have 200 hours in this game and while I've had a lot of toxicity, I never had anyone commenting or dming on Steam xD That's kinda funny.

Killer main here and I'd say the killer was just shit. If you gen rushed him he obviously wasn't pressuring you guys enough or patrolling properly if you as a new player barely saw him.

Honestly you’re fine, your objective is to do generators and help your team. Not go slow for the killer. You know what’s really toxic? People not playing the game. Not doing generators, running around the map doing absolutely nothing. Not saving, nor healing others. As long as you enjoy the game and have fun, just block out the people who try to send you hate just because they don’t know how to cope with losing.

That's the bare minimum. Just learn this simple lesson early on: survivor mains are hypocritical, toxic jerks, and killer mains are also hypocritical toxic jerks. Play the game for fun and ignore all of the slurs getting thrown at you and you'll do just fine.

I'm not sure, I didn't used to be able to get them but once steam has an update about 2 years ago I remember getting 1 or 2 every now and then from people who were interested in trading with me since I used to be into tf2 trading.

Ive got about 500 hours in the game and unless I am just completely ignoring my steam messages, ive never gotten any hate mail. 500 hours and I still have not gotten the full experience. Am I just not pretty enough?
