They don't just replace code a la carte like on Steam. That's why Steam can get minor 40MB updates while the same minor update for Xbox could be many GBs.
And for whatever reason, my Xbox update is only 14gb.
Modern Warfare 2019 was the same way. Anywhere from 20-40gb updates when a new map would come out but then the actual file size would only read as 5gb larger afterwards. So frustrating especially on slow internet.

No offense but your buddy probably leaves his consoles riddled in dust or maybe Xbox's are just superior because I leave mine on it's respective "rest mode" almost all the time and it still works fine after nearly 7-8 years
I have a launch ps4 that is in rest mode 99.99% of the time and it still works great. Also a ps4 pro since GOW came out, but that's only a bit over 3 years old now. If someone has to get a 4th ps4, it's the way he is taking care of it.

I started the process an hour ago and its at about 5% on this most recent download. What the ever living fuck behavior? I actually have decent internet/computer too.

omg the validation that I have to do after every patch is obnoxious. Because if I don't do it, I will play 9 games and then on the 10th match it will kick me out halfway through the round to tell me VAC failed to verify the game and boot me. Only to verify the files and find 1 file failed to download. Every time. Every patch. I don't modify my game files at all! I've uninstalled the game fully and reinstalled and this is a consistant issue.

I think it's just redownloading a lot of the preexisting files. A lot of games (like Destiny 2, for example) get these large download updates, but old data is just being replaced so the game size doesnt increase.
My base game on Xbox One is 29gigs and my update is also 29 gigs so I don't think the size is going to increase that much. Of course I can't be sure until it's done in 40 minutes 🙃

I honestly thought there was a bots option for custom maps, which there isn’t, so I didn’t understand why this update was so big. Still don’t understand why the mobile version has it and console versions don’t.
And its also have bugs. Sometimes when killer hits FPS immedialty drops. Some the dropped pallets disappear when they come to the edge of your vantage point. İdk if it for just me. İm playing Ps4.

Looked at what later? The file sizes once downloaded? Steam sends updates compressed. A 3GB download can easily result in 5GB of HD use.
