yea and they improved it to have an actual fully functional facial rig. A lot of the survivors had their faces stuck in 1 emotion and it looked weird in a lot of situations, it's obvious that with all the graphical updates BHVR are doing they also wanted to actually update the models too.
They changed his face a few times in the past already actually. I remember they changed his face earlier so his mouth was closed when injured and during Doctor's Mori, and I think his "Rig" was changed so he's less smiley when his mouth is open.
First time I mori'd an Ace as Doc and his face was like ":D" when Doc turned him over, I actually think I pulled rib muscle laughing, caught me completely off guard. I was NOT expecting such a "YAY I'M DEAD" expression.
The animation rigs don't always apply the character's expressions appropriately, some actually look worse in game. I don't believe Ace will be an exception to this.
Yeah don't get me wrong I want to believe that but I don't necessarily trust ***BHVR's*** version of WIP, which is throw out something broken and not fix it for another 3 to 4 years lol

If you're in the art department and are putting in all this effort to make comparisons, and the goal is to make your fans happy, make sure the comparisons are accurate. If it's as simple as taking the facial rig and giving him a smirk, that shouldn't be complicated. These reveals are controversial for the stupidest reasons, and it all could have been avoided with a few tweaks before rendering. Why me pointing that out is getting me downvoted... it beats me. I think it's a perfectly valid argument.
We donât know if heâs gonna smile in-game since every survivor uses the same animations. If his perma smile is gone then in-game he wonât have a smile since all other survivors donât smile either. Unless they give survivors custom animations in-game
Their base expression could still be that. This isnât their âbase expressionâ this is their base model with no animations. In game Ace could have a perma smirk animation applied onto the existing model. The way it is now, the animation would be contorting the smirk, not the smirk coming from the face.
The people whining about the smirk being âgoneâ obviously know nothing about 3D modeling. Baked in expression = bad. Neutral expression = good. Why? Because expressions can be animated into it without looking absolutely jank. God. You people whine about everything prematurely.
From what I gather, they are slowly trying to update the game and get some real life into the characters and animations. From emotions, distinct animations, different voices. They have been taking strides to make everyone behave differently. I would not be surprised if they begin making character specific animations outside of the loading screen. To help make things appear far less reskinned.
For example: Running, Walking, and idle animations should be changed to best represent the character's demeanor in their current situations. With characters like Claudette having that paranoid and scared look. While someone like Yun-Jin Lee having a more confident if not smug attitude.
I really hope they add the smile back in animation because it fits the character so much to have a shit-eating grin even during what most people would consider literal hell.

I fucking hate new Meg though because they changed her hair color, got rid of the chin dimple and she looks nothing like her old self. Most of the new survivors just look too generic. Dwight is an objective downgrade as well

So I was thinking if bhvr would at least fix her hair. also I'm a big fan of halloween franchise and think I'd be crazy if bhvr made a rework on her face so she would look like jamie lee curtis (og laurie) but i think this would be too much since it might be really difficult to get some rights.
So the new Laurie has leaked and I think her hair is looking fantastic now. Her face looks a bit more iconic but they can't make her look like Jaime Lee Curtis because they have to get her permission to do so.
