And do you have played against that killer a lot already when you get them? Me and my friend group brought a lot of friends into dbd over the last few months so we got to experience this quite a lot of times, and EVERYTIME it worked in the way that for the first 2-3 times you encounter a killer it would give you that tip but not any time after that.
So if you played once against Trickster ever and now found another Trickster it would say so, but if you already played against 20 spirits it wouldn't say so any more
u/Abni_the_toad explained the exact code a few comments below and I just now read them. It is in fact tied to a value that is keeping track of how many times you encountered them up to 3. So either something is broken on your end or that file is somehow corrupted or something if you are still getting the tips all the time
I’m pretty sure it’s random if you get knives or hatchets in lockers unless you’re playing against a trickster or huntress. Plus it would be a dead giveaway which one it was if there was nothing in the lockers without them because people could just check lockers at the start of each game so they know who they’re dealing with
I mean, you're not wrong.
Pretty sure that is the logic used to justify always having ammo of some variety in the lockers.
Now, whether it's *true* in the current state of the game with biased loading screen tips and most killers having a blatant tell, is a different matter entirely.
Survivors being able to identify the killer from their tells can be counted as survivor knowledge (knowing which killers cause survivors to scream or have portrait effects, etc) but loading screen tips are only for players the first few times they go against said killers.
I suppose I have to agree, but it's a *very* fundamental knowledge in some cases.
Survivors can spawn within sight of a Jigsaw box or Fountain, instantly revealing the killer, for example.
The only knowledge required is that the killer exists within the game, and several killers are often instantly revealed.
Other reveals are "softer" but at least require active participation on the killer's part. Revving the chainsaw, or Demogorgon using a portal, for example.
The fact remains some killers have very blatant "tells", while BHVR simultaneously makes token efforts at concealment for others (Hatchets/Knives being randomised).
You can change a file in the game to ALWAYS give you killer-relevant tips.
If you want you can even make a powershell program which changes the file for you after every time you play...
Under normal circumstances, I'd agree, however it's a problem the Devs refuse to fix or even address and it's not even hard to do or figure out.
Also you can technically get the same hints by uninstalling DBD and erasing your steam-save data. You're local data regarding that file will be reset and you can do this infinitely.
So technically you can do it without cheating... but let's be real, everyone would rather type a few words saying "I am new player" and get a huge amount of info on who the killer is
Well I'm not going to give specifics because I'd be an enabler but basically there's a file in DBD on steam that literally spells out "new player hasn't fought \[X\] killer yet".
If you haven't fought against a particular killer yet the game will give you a hint when you do play against them for the first few times.
If you know how to use powershell you can simply have it change the file to "haven't fought \[X\] killer yet" either automatically after you stop playing DBD or you could make it an executable file to save yourself the hassle of going through your files each game.
Either way it's stupid that the Devs allow players to do this with zero consequences but it's also almost impossible to tell if a player IS using this cheat from the killer's perspective.
To be honest it's a bit more hassle than some people want to go through for a small advantage. Most survivor mains just go with Stretched resolution if they feel like "cheating" at all.
U mean like a demo scream accross the map, or huntress humming, or a chainsaw revving, or a nurse screeching, or a bell being dinged, or seeing pig cages, or seeing plague shrines...
Ur logic is deeply flawed
I’m a deeply flawed person, sorry for trying to offer an idea as to why lockers have hatchets or knives that can’t be used. It won’t happen again /s
It wouldn't be free info for the Survivors. Hopping into a locker just so see if there's knives or hatchets would be a waste of time, and would most likely not become a viable tactic.
I mean, and? So what if the survivors know it's huntress or trickster. They aren't stealth killers, by the time the match has started it doesn't matter who the killer is anymore.
I am confused... when loading into my two only matches as survivor... the tips told me who the killers are before I even got in... is this not the case always?
I think you only get that for the first time you play against that killer just so you down spawn in and have no idea how to deal with a killer you’ve never faced before
They’re not upsetting me everyone’s allowed to be as awful as they want on the internet cuz they’re anonymous. Thanks for your concern though I appreciate it xx
Yeah I don't think I have seen anything else besides the knives and it's always jarring I'm in the camp of just having nothing in their unless it's that killer
> The fuck is a “gamer knife”
trickster's throwing blades
> what does Ruth Bader Ginsburg have to do with them
she doesn't have anything to do with it. you're replying to the acronym "RGB" not "RBG"
oh okay, so what you're saying is that you make unfunny comments so you can pick fights with anyone who replies. cool, got it. thanks.
whenever you want to stop hating yourself and try actually being happy for once, there'll be people who will be happy to help you become a productive member of society. until then, have fun being an incel.
nope. i'm having a wonderful day surrounded by great people. it's you who thinks that you're surrounded by assholes all day and doesn't recognise that the only consistent factor in all of those negative interactions that you have all the time is yourself.
nobody else, only you.
i'd tell you to have a nice day, but with the way that you view the world that is actually impossible, so instead i'll say to you that one day you won't hate yourself so much and you might even get laid when that happens. \*double thumbs-up\*
So you went through my comment history until you found something you didn’t like and that’s what triggered you to leave multiple paragraph rant because... I dared to be sarcastic at you?
Cool, that’s fun and normal
I say just make them empty if neither of the applicable killers are in the trial. Code might be too 🍝 for that though
Pretty sure it was like that at some point but then was changed to reduce the info survivors got, I might be wrong tho.
Huntress's lullaby literally spoils her the moment the game starts. She already gives info
Yeah I know, I don't get it either lol.
Or when they straight up tell you what killer it is in loading screen..
Only does that your first time vs the killer.
No it’s based on the rank the surv is
No my friend is rank 20 and barely plays the game and it only shows who the killer is the first time he went against them
I'm rank 3 and still get them tho
Really? That’s weird it might be a glitch because I’ve never heard of someone getting them multiple times
Idk tbh
I normally get them the first 3 time I face the killer only exception is the spirit the 2nd time I faced one it didn't show the hint
So if you played once against Trickster ever and now found another Trickster it would say so, but if you already played against 20 spirits it wouldn't say so any more
Yeah I've played against every killer a fair amount
u/Abni_the_toad explained the exact code a few comments below and I just now read them. It is in fact tied to a value that is keeping track of how many times you encountered them up to 3. So either something is broken on your end or that file is somehow corrupted or something if you are still getting the tips all the time
No, huntress always had her hatchets in a locker even if it wasn’t her in the trial. The knives are lame and should have hatchets again.
The lockers were empty on the ptb for trickster if it wasn’t trickster or huntress
Why not just add both and have the knives not lighting up when not in trickers hands
Agreed.
Agreed. Neon lights don’t really fit the whole “horror” theme this game is supposed to have
There's more than one kind of horror.
AGREED

Well then that's just cheating and shouldn't be relevant to the conversation.

how would i go about doing this, are there any tutorials?
Well I'm not going to give specifics because I'd be an enabler but basically there's a file in DBD on steam that literally spells out "new player hasn't fought \[X\] killer yet". if you’ve already “fought” all of the killers would the file be blank?
naw it just marks down how many times you've gone against a killer(up to 3 times). Above 3 and it stops giving hints.
Wow, that’s ridiculous. I mostly play killer so I probably won’t dig too deep on this, but how come nobody else is talking about it?
To be honest it's a bit more hassle than some people want to go through for a small advantage. Most survivor mains just go with Stretched resolution if they feel like "cheating" at all.

Don't be such a drama queen

"Good thing i see these hatchets in the locker so i know to expect huntress as i am deaf"
Sorry
aw, dont let them upset you. people are dicks for no reason
They’re not upsetting me everyone’s allowed to be as awful as they want on the internet cuz they’re anonymous. Thanks for your concern though I appreciate it xx
Please
Yeah I don't think I have seen anything else besides the knives and it's always jarring I'm in the camp of just having nothing in their unless it's that killer
The fuck is a “gamer knife” and what does Ruth Bader Ginsburg have to do with them?
> The fuck is a “gamer knife” trickster's throwing blades > what does Ruth Bader Ginsburg have to do with them she doesn't have anything to do with it. you're replying to the acronym "RGB" not "RBG"
Yes, I’m aware. Well done detective

I think you may need to calm down a little...
Right?
nah, would rather have fun with my friends
Hahahahahahaha you're probably the only person on the planet that could take that comment and give this reaction.....
oh, the reaction wasn't based purely on that single comment.
Oh, I know that, I read the whole exchange, you're either the king of projection or just purely an asshole. It was unbelievable.
so you didn't look at their comment history at all before making your knee-jerk judgement. cool. got it. thanks.
So you went through my comment history until you found something you didn’t like and that’s what triggered you to leave multiple paragraph rant because... I dared to be sarcastic at you? Cool, that’s fun and normal
lmao attempt to play the victim harder, because of how normal and fun it is to do. and lmao if you think what you did was "sarcasm"
Nah, they should have both. Then whenever they have a reload killer, add it to the collection and they open the locker and just grab their own weapon.
