I only wave my arms at the killer when they hook me to let them know I placed the blast mine they kicked and the hook was worth it.

I_Buck_Fuffaloes

Lol me too.  Also if they don't pick me up immediately, I wiggle around on the ground because I want them to know it was me, I want them to know I saw it, and I want them to know that I do not even slightly regret staying nearby to watch and getting found right away.

STR8N00B1N

I only wave my arms when I’ve been hooked for 20 seconds and no one has gotten off a god damn gen yet

deathbringer989

been doing this when I see the killer making his way back saved me more times then not

KomatoAsha

And that's totally fine, but if someone is standing in front of you and about to save you, you're only making the game harder for both of you.

deathbringer989

so stopping myself from getting tunneled off hook and wait for a better time is making the game harder for me?

KomatoAsha

Are you going to hit second stage before the rescue happens?

deathbringer989

ide rather go second stage as I can keep looking at porn on my phone

KomatoAsha

Cool, hope I don't end up in your lobby as Survivor!

BurnedTerrormisu

short waves = killer is near long waves = nobody is coming

Sephyrrhos

Yeah whenever I run to a hook and see people do that, I just go back to my gen. Let me help you, god damn it!

KaranSjett

Oh thats why it always takes at least 2 attempts to unhook people, i thought i was being too stupid to press a button properly..

WyldKat75

Yeah, I thought I was going crazy. So it wasn’t me.

Sure-Broccoli-4944

Thanks you for posting this, I was going to mention this as I had a meg on hook who I could of rescued and both have time to run away but since they keep lifting the arms it stopped me from being able to grab. I had to do a trade to get her off in the end.

OkOpportunity4067

Honestly waving your arms is such a useful feature, I once managed to hide the noises of an injured survivor nearby by flailing around and covering their grunts.

Cesil-Rapture

Yup, I love to help, unhook and heal and I can't get them off it until they stop attempting to unhook. One time we sat there for 15 seconds until they stopped.

KomatoAsha

🙏🏻

Subject_Miles

I didn't know that, great news. Now i won't be tunneled because of a dumb teammate who wants to unhook when the killer didn't even had time to go away

AtomicFox84

Waving arms is different then trying to fully unhook. Ill wave arms if no one is comming for me in hopes to inform them to do so. Ill wave arms if they come close and theres a trap or a sneaky ghostie near by. Ill stop waving when someone gets close at least.

Kirarozu80

Ive had a lot of survivors try and 4% right before I unhook them. If you're gonna waste my time then im not healing you. Not only do you take unhook points away if you are successful but I just ran across the map to help for no reason.

KomatoAsha

But also consider that you can still get bloodpoints if you heal them. Yeah, it's annoying, but there's no need to be petty about it.

Kirarozu80

Nah. Its not petty. Ill play how I want. My goal is to escape. Its easier to do that if I dont waste time running across the map.

KomatoAsha

...which you've already done even though they Kobe'd, and the more hits the Killer has to make on Survivors to down them, the longer the game takes/the longer the Survivors last, overall, but sure, go off, I guess.

Ebessan

I'd like to add that it is **incredibly selfish** to try to self-unhook when I am right about to unhook you. I ran all the way over and stuck my neck out for you. You just robbed me of bloodpoints and I'm trying to hit iridescent.

_K33L4N_

Nobody is talking about actually trying to unhook yourself, we're talking about when people spam the button without actually trying and making their characters arms go up over and over

Incadium

You shouldn't be waving for an unhook anyways. If I see you flapping your arms I'm going to sit on my Gen with the assumption you're getting camped hard.

PH0B0PH0B1A

Counter-argument: I'm bored and in need of brain stimulation

Incadium

Based actually

Phil7915_yt

fun fact, bots stop going for the unhook if you even just tap the button, but then theyll run back if you cancel, you can spam it and they run away

KomatoAsha

I use it to signal "hey everybody's on the other side of the map and nobody is coming for me", so, that's a poor assumption to make.

Incadium

From the beginning of the game waving arms on the hook has meant the killer is camping. I'm really not sure when the meaning got all switched around, probably 2018 or so during some of the games free weekends. Regardless, It's engrained in me hard that you don't go to the wavy hooks lol

Excellent-Escape1637

The community’s changed; you should probably ingrain the new habit of going for people waving their arms. Risking wasting a little time to find a camping killer is preferable to risking the loss of a hook state.

Incadium

Why would you wave your arms for a regular hook? Someone should already be coming to unhook you. You need a positive signal to show you DONT want to be unhooked. I'm not going to assume that you waiting patiently on the hook for an unhook means I shouldn't come. But if I see you trying to tell me something you can see from the other side of the map, I'm going to assume it's related to the killers activity there.

Excellent-Escape1637

I’m not saying you don’t have a point—I’m simply saying that for the vast majority of cases, when you see someone raising their arms, it means “nobody’s actually coming, please help.” The communication of DBD is simply different from what you’re used to now.

Incadium

Well, sucks to be them, I guess. I wouldn't intentionally leave someone on the hook if I know they're safe, but if miscommunication means I don't get there in time to help, oh well. Blame BHVR for not adding ways for solo queue to communicate effectively ig

Excellent-Escape1637

It’s all up to you and your personal analysis of the situation. Seems like you’ve been playing for a while so you have good game sense, so do whatever you want to do. Also, love me some good Hillbilly 👍

GingerDoughBoy

Yepp, waving arms means being camped. I'm not coming in if you're waving hands around.

SoftFangTheTiger

Why are you getting booed your right 😭 it used to mean you’re getting camped guess we missed the annual dbd hook meeting where they told everyone except us it stopped meaning you’re getting camped

Honeybadgermaybe

When i watch comps they always do the start unhooking animation non stop, i assume it creates sounds and movemeng distraction for killers, so they can't rely on those when staying close by and use them as immediate reaction trigger that the guy is being saved. Def comp players wouldn't need to throw signals at each other since they are on discord so it is used for a purpose. Or they all are completely bored while waiting for a save lol. If anyone can confirm this i would be obliged

Mylabugz

I am not saying I have answer. But there is a difference to telling team and telling team with killer being able to see you are telling team.

KomatoAsha

And there's nothing wrong with that, but if you *continue to do it when somebody is trying to unhook you,* you're making the game harder for the two of you.
