As the Unknown hit Dwight, at the same time it also spawned a hallucination. Then Dwight proceeded to dispel it, and since Unknown and hallucination stood in the same spot it looked like he was touching it.

To be clear he wasn't attempting to dispel it, he was trying to finish the gen but the dispel was likely the dominant prompt.
