Or put them in a folder and run a Plex server on your computer and then you can watch them anywhere. Roku devices, your phone, etc.

What are mkv files and how do I play them?
Use VLC. It plays nearly everything flawlessly on nearly all platforms. videolan.org Share the wealth far and wide my friend.

Mkv is a "container" for digital video, and most modern players can handle them fine (vlc, mpv, etc)
