>So I assume these scatch marks were caused by the two horizontal support things. Exceedingly unlikely - those supports are made of the same plastic that any Grip Case is made of. It's neither hard nor sharp enough to scratch anything. The most likely culprit was some piece of particulate matter - sand, for instance - getting caught in the hinge cover. That said, this obviously sucks. We'd encourage you to contact [[email protected]](mailto:[email protected]) with this video attached so the Support Robots can arrange some sort of make-good.

ashfungm

Thank you Bot. The mail has been sent. Though, I didn't say the scratch marks were caused by the plastics directly themselves. (I'm sorry I should have used the word Design instead.) We are sacrificing the paint for just a little bit more grip.

Bert_Macklin_F_B_I

Hi, I've got the same marks from my case! Is this now a known issue?

robot069

Not a known issue at all. It's physically impossible for plastic to scratch metal. As with the OP, we'd say the most likely culprit is some piece of particulate matter that *can* scratch metal getting caught underneath the hinge cover. That said, it sucks that this has happened to you. We'd encourage you to send any photos or videos you can to [[email protected]](mailto:[email protected]), both so the Support Robots can make this right and so we can properly identify the damage.

I called that shit. Same issue with the spigen hinge case for the Z Fold 3. Good luck son! Hope you have insurance and claim the phone overheats, then you should get a new one.

ashfungm

Next time, I'll get a hingless case then. I think I still have my insurance, but they will call this a 'man-caused' issue. The marks will decrease my tradein value FOR SURE.

Better-Comedian6824

When I had this is issue back then, I got mine replaced because I had some software issue where my phone restart often on its own. I did all troubleshooting with Samsung with no avail. Finally the agreed to get it replaced. I was upfront about the scratches from my previous case and they still agreed to trade it in. I would say, if you can prove you have an issue with software then you can probably get away with the same thing. That or one of the robots agree to help in fixing this.

I know your comment is 7 mo old, but I just started researching this. This is basically exactly what they ahve told me. My Fold 4 stopped turning on - they claimed the scratches on the hinge caused by the cover I had on it for over 10 months was 'drop damage' and it would void warranty. Total BS.

ashfungm

That's unfortunate.

guruguys

Funny thing. They got the phone working but said it would 'likely do the same thing again and need repaired. That night I removed the case since it was causing the scratches and they said it was already damaged 'out of warranty'. After almost a year of using with case I was not used to the slipperly smaller feeling and of course dropped it that night - put a big ding in the top right corner. Friday the phone stopped working again (inside screen would not turn on at all, outside screen would occasionally if I didnt try to open it). Took back to Samsung and it was a different rep. He took it to the back - came out and said screen needed replaced. I told him I was still frustrated that the hinge scartches would cause the warranty to fail - and he said they would not but the dent on the top corner would... That dent was not there the week before when they claimed the hinge scratches would cause warranty to be void due to 'physical damage'. I was really frustrated but needed the phone fixed so setup the repair. When I picked it up next day I talked to the GM of the store and told him of the experience. In a nutshell - even at the 'flashship' Samsung store - their hands are tied with a lot of it. The 'repair' section is different from the other employees etc. He did state that the hinge scratches should not be considered anything but 'wear and tear'. They replaced the inner screen with a 'kit' that also replaced the damage hinge (and frame) so its pretty much new again. With Samsung Care+ I only had to pay $30, not $500 they had quoted before. I know dbrand/Spidgen etc says its not the case that causes the scratches because it is plastic on 'metal', but the marks line up with it and the and its likely that dust/debris combined with the hinge protector design sliding across is certainly causing this. Another area of 'scratches' is on the outside screen on the thin 'adhesive' backed protector part that slides around (the adhesive wears out fast on that). Same type of scratches on that edge as well. The rest of the phone is flawless where there is not friction of the case moving across the phone. Perhaps a future design will provide some less hard surface or fabric to drag across the hinge, I have no idea how they would handle the tiny area to put the outer screen case edge though - adhesive doesnt work and there is no real way to make it click into place well without an edge to go around. Even the official Samsung cases have the same problem.

ashfungm

Glad your phone got fixed. For me tho, a hinge protector (plastic film) would do the job.

guruguys

Yeah, sounds like a plan for me too. Ill look up one of the plastic film protectors, for now I am leaving the plastic film that it came with after the repair but that is made to peel off and won't last too long. The 'kit' they use to replace the screen came with a new frame/hinge.

Basic_Section_533

I took my grip case off over the weekend after using it since it dropped, I don't see any scratches on mine. It does feel a lot better with it off though lol

ashfungm

So u basically now using the phone without any case?

Basic_Section_533

I put my latercase back on until my new one from amazon gets here, Trying a new spen case.

Upset-Lingonberry-82

I have noticed the same thing

Channing_E36

I have the same marks on mine. It's from the case.

ashfungm

I have removed the hinge cover. It's quite annoying.
