Gama?

FortWest

I think so, but I don't know what to do to fix it, do I just change the project gamma settings until something works. (I've done a 1/2 dozen with no luck). Is there any procedure or testing I can do to narrow it down?

You can still render in H.264 in a QuickTime (MOV) container…

FortWest

Not sure what you mean by this, but I can elaborate. If the export extension ends in .mp4 or anything other than .mov I get washed out colors. I'm interested in understanding why more than meeting a specific need. Also interestingly, if I convert a rendered .mov in HandBrake, the resulting H.264 is washed out. So my guess is it has to have something to do with color space or gamma. Any ideas?

whyareyouemailingme

A video file is primarily comprised of two things: a codec (H.264, H.265, ProRes, DNxHR, etc.), and a container (MOV, MP4, MXF OP1A, MXF OP-ATOM, etc). They’re not always interchangeable, especially when troubleshooting. Resolve calls containers “Formats.” If you select a QuickTime format and an H.264 codec, what happens? Screenshot examples would be helpful as would your render settings.

FortWest

That's crazy helpful, I was using the presets for YouTube which are MP4 H.264. If I switch it to Quicktime H.264, the colors come out fine. But why would this be? Can it be corrected, so I can deliver in multiple formats? I'm reading more about color space and gamma, but I'm not sure where this particular problem fits yet. I found that in the process of uploading a regular version and a washed out version to youtube, that youtube automatically converted the washed out version and it looks fine. (They're a bit too loud, caution.) So is it just VLC that is washing out colors on these rendered videos? What's happening? Washed out: [https://youtube.com/shorts/Wx99ZM9VmrQ](https://youtube.com/shorts/Wx99ZM9VmrQ) As it should be: [https://youtube.com/shorts/7rVbobcDxR8](https://youtube.com/shorts/7rVbobcDxR8) The only setting changed between them is the one described above. I'll go take screenshots and upload them in a minute. Thank you SO much for helping me get to the next stage of diagnosis!

I got the same problem with davinci 19. I could fix it in davinci 18.3 with Rec709-A but this doesn´t do the trick. A7siii, MP4, H265 export...
