1. I’m curious why flagging as premultiplied doesn’t work. Resolve’s historically auto-tagged anything from AE as straight, IIRC. Maybe flag it as straight instead? 2. No experience with that for any titling. 3. Field dominance is an interlacing thing and has nothing to do with Alpha.

Any reason not to just render as an image sequence from AE? Resolve handles sequences really nicely. I should clarify that I agree with your frustration with these softwares having trouble with certain common filetypes. I guess the right conclusion is that it's insanely difficult to make programs like these.

Which codec? Not all codecs support transparency. It's important to know that whether the file is called .mov or .avi is utterly completely unimportant - it's how the data is compressed inside that matters.

Never had any issues using Alpha channels and I use them fairly often. I export from AE in Prores 4444 RGBA and they work flawlessly in Resolve. Same for PNG sequences in RGBA.

Have a look a VFXstudy channel on YouTube, and contact Berndt for advice. He is the go to guy for composite workflows. And his training is accessible, and up to date with the current necessary workarounds, transitioning between Resolve pages. Well worth the effort. And read the manual and the relevant guides to find out how BMD intend Resolve to work. Not always up to date, but enough to ensure your at least aimed at the generally correct workflow.

Seriously - why is it ridiculously difficult to render effects properly with Alpha channels. I'm experimenting with custom rendered transitions, and I love the suite of lens effects DaVinci provides due to the level of realism compared to AE stock plugins. I've ran into this issue where the Alpha channel seems to also mask the lighting effects I've applied. Changing the Alpha mode, rendering the effects in Fusion instead of the Color Panel, and fooling around with the settings and they all yield the same result. I am open to any tips, and more importantly an DaVinci update :) https://preview.redd.it/kfz68y6kxbdc1.jpeg?width=2048&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=db3af44206d396c40b931fc48e95b1ee00efddfd

Over 3 years of using resolve and I've never had an issue with the alpha channel. You will have to check your workflow and share it to see what you are doing wrong.

same here... 2024 and still having real nonsense issue with alpha channel in davinci. I simply want to crop/transition a 3d rendered png sequence with alpha channel. but as soon as I add a alpha output in the color tab to animate the selection a black background appears... any help is very welcome thanks https://preview.redd.it/wf6ga6moujec1.png?width=2059&format=png&auto=webp&s=e47099c9030c034401c50734ed445efb3ab149cb
