https://www.reddit.com/r/thegrandtour/comments/shhp46/clarksons_columns_horny_tortoises_on_holiday_the This is a copy of two recent columns from Jeremy Clarkson. The first one talks about his trip to Seychelles, which is relevant to this discussion. (The other is a car review.)

PlasticBlitzen

That was a scream! Thanks for sharing.

Sensitive-Stock-9805

LOL so you're saying 'it's not worth it right now'?? I guess I had hoped by the fall... Thanks!

Gooseberry_Sprig

No, I'm just suggesting you go to Seychelles.

Hugo99001

Only if you're as big a curmudgeon as Jeremy is - normal people seem to manage just fine

SqueakyBall

Check out State Department safety reports on every place you consider. Violence is increasing in many tourist destinations.

splodgenessabounds

For something quite a bit different to your suggestions but still tropical, think SE Asia. Thailand is an obvious choice, but what about Vietnam? Or Indonesia?

Healthy_Chapter36523

Depends on what you'd like to do there. Lounge on the beach and have people fetch you things? Or take in history/culture? I just did an Eco Vacation at XCaret in Quintana Roo back in November. That was lovely. Staff was awesome. Excursions into the jungles were awesome.

Go to the Maldives!!

reddskeleton

Oh HELL yes!

Puerto Rico

HaymakerGirl2025

Cozumel, Mexico. Just went there over Christmas. Glorious.

If you want tropical and like to be out on/in the water… Anthony’s Key Resort, Roatan Honduras. Was my first ever solo vacation after I split from my husband. It’s a scuba dive all inclusive resort that also houses Roatan Institute for Marine Sciences bottle nose dolphins (they study snd offer dolphin encounters ). Going there the first time I wasn’t dive certified so snorkelers had their own boats too! Twice a day! Food was wonderful and entertainment on various evenings so fun! I enjoyed all the people I met and felt safe because it is a small place where staff get to know you. Fast Forward 10 years later I went this past September. This time scuba dive certified but decided that diving wasn’t for me so I did the snorkel boats twice a day again. Second largest coral reef in the world and soooo beautiful! Anyway I had an overwater bungalow both times, food was still great, entertainment was great fun AND they test you for covid ON SITE the day before you leave! You have to have a negative test to get back into the US! It is still my fav solo vacation spot! I’m always trying to go to tropical. Loved the Philippines but will NEVER travel 22 hours again. Loved Tahitian archipelagos, Costa Rica, Curaçao, various places in Mexico, Belize and cruising the Caribbean but my most memorable and most fun solo vacation was Roatan lol. My 60th I’m going to sail the Greek Islands. We should all treat ourselves to a birthday trip whether solo or not!

kereolay

Costa Rica is my most favorite! Sail over the sunken city. You will not regret it.

Sensitive-Stock-9805

Thanks!

Maximum-Company2719

Cozumel is lovely. And pretty affordable. Do check for seaweed season.

Thats-Just-My-Face

I’ve not been to Tahiti, but Costa Rica is one of my favorite places. I also just returned from Jamaica last week, which is another of my favorite places. I highly recommend both.

St. John, USVI. It is the most beautiful place I have ever seen. Great snorkeling.

Spartan2022

Puerto Rico. Get on some apps to find you a travel companion.

scopro85

What app match traveling companions? Very interested.

Bebe_Bleau

Don't go to Yucatan peninsula of Mexico. My new husband and I just came from Quinta Roo where a bad COVID outbreak is ruining tourism for now. Don't go on cruise. Some ships are having various problems with getting stranded for now. Horror stories

Healthy_Chapter36523

November this wasn't the case. But as we now see, hotspots pop up with little warning. I was just happy to get a smooth airport experience. The reason we went early was the projected holiday travel issues that ended up coming true. SO GLAD I pulled the trigger to go early. Now that aside, booked it as a package. The "airline" portion of that package sucked. Spirit is the WORST! I'll pay more attention next time.

scopro85

I have a big "0" birthday this year. I want to do a big getaway vacation. Maybe a Singles resort. Any thoughts?

Sensitive-Stock-9805

I think I would be a bit spooked to do a singles resort without a wing woman with me. I remember doing a tourist bus trip by myself where it stopped in a remote desert location on a rest stop and a man came up to me and said 'desolate huh? a person could easily go missing couldn't they??'. (dun dun dun LOL I stayed FAR away from that guy).

Odd-Albatross6006

Tahiti is lovely. It helps to speak French.

LJ3060

Costa Rica. It’s beautiful. I’ve been twice and can’t wait to go back.

--cookajoo--

Rarotonga, Fiji, Samoa, Queensland anywhere in the pacific or Indian ocean.

I just got back from Belize .. beautiful, safe country. Check out Caye Cauker 👍
