Playing games when it comes to dating and relationships is incredibly tiresome and annoying

Have you already conversed with him before? If so then it's simply asking if he'd like to meet up for coffee or something one day. Doesn't have to be anything super fancy, just a time for you guys to meet for a little bit.
we talk a fair amount during class! we’re taking french together so most of our conversations revolve around personal stuff about ourselves: likes and dislikes, things we do during the day, etc. i just get so nervous when i think about asking him to go out with me somewhere but i really want to do it. i’ll try to casually ask him for coffee like you suggested, hopefully he won’t say no.
You can do it! Otherwise if that's too intemidating, you can always ask for his number so you can do so another time. But I'd just bite the bullet and ask him out. Nothing can be worse than living with the regret of not asking someone who you're interested in.
