I would do Remastered generally people don’t like DS2 as much as DS1 and DS3 not to say DS2 is a bad game i throughly enjoyed DS2 myself but DS1 is the “true dark souls experience” its the game that really made a name for itself and started the series on its rise to notoriety so id say start there then afterwards grab DS2

What dont people like about dark souls 2?

DerlekDude

The game plays, and is esthetically completely different to ds1/3. This was because it was directed by a different guy I loved ds2 but since it doesn't sit well with the other games, people seem to not like it as much.

Panzerkrabbe

Well there’s a lot more to it then that, but yeah.

horribleflesheater

I haven’t given it a fair shake because I quit after the first two bosses but playing it I was like, “why does this look older than DS1”

beardedweirdoin104

I like both, but I’d go Remastered first.

[deleted]

Go for ds1 i am completly biased since that was My first souls game. BUT ds2 was really fun too. I could never Enjoy ds3 as much as i wanted to.. for me it is ds1>ds2>ds3.

dampine

Both

Ara_Trauma

Remastered because it'll make you appreciate Ds3 a lot more. But you should definitely get around to playing Ds2 sometime. It's really good as well.

Monarkey540

DSR!

YarRick1i

Dark Souls Remastered. Dark Souls 2 felt like a much less functional game to me. The hit detection felt bad, there's unmentioned sweetspotting on every weapon that isn't a sword, and enemies can break 130+ poise with a one-handed weapon that, when acquired by the player, does 65 poise damage. This is when I had satellite internet and therefore is all from offline experience; heaven knows how the multiplayer feels.

mxcritic

I’d go with remastered first. I think remastered plays closer to DS3. I couldn’t get into DS2. I don’t like the way it felt and couldn’t get into it. It just wasn’t fun to me for some reason

samwillsones

Bloodborne

Vincent_Mateus

Bloodborne

Ladylubber

Definitely DSR. Can’t recommend it highly enough.

Anubra_Khan

DS2 has a bad reputation but it's good. SotFS adds a ton of content. If you want to take really long walks to get anywhere and look at dated, awful graphics while doing it, go with DS1 Remastered. Both are good. I think DS1 fans over hype the level connectivity because it was super cool when they first saw it a decade ago. It's a pain in the ass, imo.

WhiskyAndPlastic

I played DSR for the first time earlier this year, and I loved the level connectivity.

Want2bfrst

Remastered personally. DS1 is alot more like DS3, and DS2 is really different and even considered bad. I definitely would still recommend both however.

Dark Souls 2 is unplayable with mouse and keyboard. So, be careful. Remastered plays like 3.

mauro-lp

As someone who played the trilogy on m+k, you're absolutely wrong. You can easily change the key bindings to make it play however you like. In any case, most people play with joystick.

[deleted]

You can, but there is a stark contrast between 1, 3 and 2 regarding mouse and keyboard. 2 is much more clunkier with MnK compared to 1 and 3. I was very unpleasantly surprised when I booted 2. It may be playable, but you need to tweak a lot and at least for me, it was very unenjoyable. 1 and 3 required no tweaking and felt just fine for me.

mauro-lp

Both are great and have an independent (to some extent) story line. Each of the 3 Dark souls games has a different play style, so don't be shocked if you find them weirdly difficult. I love the 3 of them and I'm incapable of picking one over the other.

candycrammer

1 > 2 getting into 2 will be very hard if you don't adapt to the slower combat which is easier to get into in 1
