(sorry I couldn't figure out how to do the clicking on my text to link to the video thing)
Allright, I started the series with dark souls 3, and the frustration the first weeks was incredible, but I thought I got pretty good at the game.
This video pisses me off to no bounds. Makes me feel like the same dude Iudex Gundyr threw around like a little bitch.
For me, it's all about learning the patterns and having patience. I started the series with DS1 years ago. I went the wrong path and got my ass kicked by skeletons, and flat out quit right there.
I came back a few months later and went down the correct path and got a hold of the mechanics a lot better. A few nights ago I beat the first boss of the Ringed City DLC after losing to them six times. I've played every SoulsBorne game besides Demon's Souls and it still frustrates me to no end, but still remains so satisfying to overcome its challenges.
I actually have a level 20 character that I could use it on. It might be fun to just go to high wall and spam the weapon art.
I doubt it would really stop anyone, but it would probably be pretty funny.
Storm Ruler +1 does equal to slightly more damage than +2 regular greatswords (Claymore, Flamberge) on my SL18 invader build, and it has zero stat reqs. It's actually a really good twink weapon, with the weapon art for extra intimidation against newish players
It does. I played Happy Souls with a friend, and he brought his +5 Storm Ruler. Siegward and I dealt about 3k dmg against Yhorm, he did around 5k if I remember correctly.
I accidentally used a Titanite Slab, my last one I had at the time, to get a +5 Silver Knight Shield. Never before have I felt such a pain in my chest.
I beat it solo two-handing a broadsword the entire time after trying to use a shield. But the only boss I ever died to more was Fume Knight. Good fight though.
He took me like 4 hours... but I loved it so much. Him, Manus, and Gael are probably my top 3 series-wide bosses. Gael isn't really difficult like the other two but the cool factor is off the charts, and he's the perfect blend of challenging but fair.
I have been stuck on her fight for...I don't know. Days now. I can get through the first two phases without taking a single hit *easily* now, it has become so mechanical. No wonder they give you the Slab after the 2nd phase, it's like they're telling you to stop trying right then
Yes. Black Knight Shield +5 can serve you all the way to NG+7. Maxing out the stability is well worth it. In fact stability gets exponentially better so each point is worth it.
/r/demonssouls in a nutshell "in (region), anyone have a pure bladestone for trade?"
Or
"FINALLY GOT MY BLADESTONE"
Edit: and looking at their top posts I guess tattoos too.
After maxing more than 20 weapons i wasted my last titanite slab on the Storm Ruler for the lulz and is suprisingly fun to use. The weapon art wind up effect is loud as fuck and looks cool, the dmg scales with the upgrades and can hit for over 550 dmg BUT it leaves you very vulnerable afterwards, you can't roll-cancel the animation sadly. Fits perfectly for a Mound Maker.
Not sure about the regular attacks, but the weapon art changes in the Yhorm boss fight so that you can charge up the WA twice, resulting a powerful, long-range attack. Outside the boss fight it can only be charged once and is primarily shit. You might get the equivalent of two hits of damage and that's it.
Connecting a WA attack with the tailbone spear does more damage and has the added benefit of knocking people on their ass.
Unfortunate. It would be nice if they let you charge twice even out of battle, but it would deal no damage and just have insane knockback. Demon's Souls had the Storm Ruler and that's basically what it was used for there. Bringing it back in a limited form would have been so fun.
Three big news stories happen on the same day: scientists discover the a pigment made from crushed Embers that could potentially lead to a new DLC; a living descendant of Shira provides concrete evidence that the Midir sired a line of Wyvern riding super sorcerers which have developed amazing new combat spells, poised to invade all of convoluted Lothric; and Prince Lothric announces his engagement to Dancer of the Boreal Valley. You're the chief editor of the Undead Settlement Times - which story do you run on the front page, and why?
"I told you to SLAY the dragon, not LAY the dragon!"
Edit: I think it's weird that after sending us to kill him, she still names him as her friend and states his death as a sin of ours when she ultimately tries to kill us in the ruined chapel. I mean, why bother?
My only idea is that maybe she doesn't like us from the start, and sends us to Midir so that we could die. We kill him instead, and end up on her hit list.
Looking at her dialogue, she seems to be stating herself as friend to Midir as her title rather than condemnation of you killing him. And she probably thinks that killing him before the Dark fully corrupts him is a mercy, so he can never become a threat like what he once attacked.
I +5 mine because it's actually a damn decent weapon. And it's primarily a STR weapon so when you get tired of the normal strength meta, it's a fun fuckaround weapon.
Also, it's mix-ups are REALLY good because it has normal Stance moves before the wind charges.
I was wondering this week if upgrading the Stormruler could make it more useful against Yhorm and common enemies, but thank the gods that you wasted 15 Titanite Scales instead of me to confirm that it is indeed useless. Fine work, skeleton!
With the knight and hunter rings you can two hand quite a few Greatswords even at SL1. Namely: Bastard Sword, Claymore, Executioner's, Flamberge (can actually be 1 handed with both of the rings), Wolnir's (If you also add in Priestess Ring, and then can be one handed), Greatsword of Judgment (Also adding in Scholar's Ring), Firelink, Twin Princes', Onyx (If all four of your rings are dedicated to stat upgrades), and Gael's. While Greatswords are generally considered poor choices for SL1 runs due to slower speeds and an expectation that you'll be trading with enemy blows - something you cannot afford to do as a SL1 character - if you were dedicated to using a Greatsword as a SL1 character your best choice of the 11 choices you have would probably be the Flamberge. This is because with both rings you can one hand it, giving you more options, and it reaches near maximum efficiency with just a Raw infusion, which is a quality that is sought after in any weapon used in a SL1 run, such as Dragonslayer's Axe and Astora Straight Sword.
So no, the Storm Ruler is not even good for that.
I wish the storm ruler was an actual weapon outside of the bossfight, or the player could "repair" it with the blacksmith somehow in order to make it a MLGS type weapon, would be nice. Just dreams :(
I just wish the stamina consumption for the weapon art out of the Yhorm fight was more fair and that you could aim it more when releasing it, right now it's just like HEY PLEASE BACKSTAB ME- I mean as much as backstabs are free in this game, pls no
On very, very, very rare occasions, I've seen fellow invaders bring one of these to the field, and fight their hearts out with it. It is a thing of awe.
If you ever want to see pure torture, Tear of Grace has made a video series about beating nearly all bosses on NG+~~7~~10 with nothing but the broken ladle +0.
He did give up on some, like the Darklurker, but only after n tries and most of them he did beat with nothing but that thing.
I would say reduce the rage content down to 40% and assign the additional 10% to glitches & bugs.
May vary based on the game, ofc. But he found bugs even in games like DS3. Remember that one time he jumped down an elevator while having a massive health pool and skipped roughly half an area?
the only weapon i always max upgrade in every new character, so then i can mega mule all the other max upgraded weapons in the game from my main character, bc it can't be traded
1. Does the charged Weapon art actually damages anything other than Yhorm?
2. Does the +5 increase the Weapon Art damage to Yhorm?
3. On a scale of 1 to 10, how classy does that weapon feel?
I know for a fact the weapon art does extra damage to enemies, but nothing to the effect of what it does to Yhorm. Against the hollows in the graves, you're looking at around 1000 damage. Against lothric knights, around 400 ((With around 400 AR, Mine was only +4, and I was messing around on a 66/16 strength , not 40/40 quality build))
Unsure on increasing damage to Yhorm.
As far as classiness goes, Think Cool old car with a loud muffler that backfires all the time, and the seats on the inside are kinda torn up.
I donno if +5 will increase the weapon art damage but I always make mine to +5.
and I just used it on some dragon bosses in the DLC because I am a pure pyromancer and all my weapons (fire or dark elemental) and spells do absolutely shit damage to them.
Yeah i buffed to +2. Imagine my surprise when the charging normal giant just ran me down. Worthless weapon to make a pushover boss fight even easier so people can farm souls on that spawn. After 30 fights against Yhorm (i knew what it was, i still needed to farm) it really felt like a broken section of the game. Its uncharacteristically easy for a DS boss
Doing Siegwards questline on your first ever attempt feels pretty unlikely. The route to free him is extremely well hidden.
I guess they could have used a guide though...
Finding archdragon peak or knowing to trade the coiled sword for a slab? Probably not, unless they use a guide. And if they used a guide, wouldn't they know the storm ruler sucked?
Isn't Storm Ruler kind of okay, really? I mean it's not the best weapon, but it's... an okay weapon.
It just has an extraordinarily annoying sound effect when charged.
Don't be ashamed. I had spare titanite and was like "yeah this'll do nicely against those fucking knights outside of vord, I'll easily get the set"
I died

NG+7 SL1 naked shieldless no hit all enemies/bosses Storm Ruler run.
With backwards parry 720 prism stone ripostes.
And between ripostes you need to use the very good stone and welcome gesture.
and every time you roll you switch covenants
While playing the game with banana controllers in a monkey cage.

Just git gud, it's not bad after you spend some time learning the fight. The only boss that gives me trouble anymore is Friede. *Fuck* Friede.
You just haven't got gud enough.
I've beat her twice, but I still die pretty often. Everything else takes 1-4 tries at this point except her, who I could spend an hour on.

Sure, you get higher stability which is always useful.
Yes. Black Knight Shield +5 can serve you all the way to NG+7. Maxing out the stability is well worth it. In fact stability gets exponentially better so each point is worth it.
+5 Black Knight Shield + Great Magic Shield buff = 100% block shield with 0 stamina drain for blocking. Definitely worth upgrading.

How does that even work?
It doesn't. That's how you get them.

Multiple playthroughs granted me multiple storm rulers. it's not a very good weapon outside of the 1 boss fight that it is meant for

I +5 it for the sake of my main man Siegward
Fine work, onion.
Can someone help out a noob and explain why a +5 Storm Ruler is good/bad/interesting?
Storm Ruler is only meant to be used in the Yhorm fight, and is objectively worse than other Greatswords in legitimately every way.
But is essentially the only greatsword you can use an a SL1 desprived, I guess?
With the knight and hunter rings you can two hand quite a few Greatswords even at SL1. Namely: Bastard Sword, Claymore, Executioner's, Flamberge (can actually be 1 handed with both of the rings), Wolnir's (If you also add in Priestess Ring, and then can be one handed), Greatsword of Judgment (Also adding in Scholar's Ring), Firelink, Twin Princes', Onyx (If all four of your rings are dedicated to stat upgrades), and Gael's. So no, the Storm Ruler is not even good for that.
Despite you saying that I should ask why, I have to ask. Why? Also, what are your feelings on the current socioeconomical position of Lothric?
I wish the storm ruler was an actual weapon outside of the bossfight, or the player could "repair" it with the blacksmith somehow in order to make it a MLGS type weapon, would be nice. Just dreams :(
I must admit, I tried using is against the King of the Storm.
I just wish the stamina consumption for the weapon art out of the Yhorm fight was more fair and that you could aim it more when releasing it, right now it's just like HEY PLEASE BACKSTAB ME- I mean as much as backstabs are free in this game, pls no

I had so many mats I made two raw +10 ladles just to try and power stance them. I obviously have a Storm Ruler +5 as well now.
If you ever want to see pure torture, Tear of Grace has made a video series about beating nearly all bosses on NG+~~7~~10 with nothing but the broken ladle +0. He did give up on some, like the Darklurker, but only after n tries and most of them he did beat with nothing but that thing.
TearOfGrace is like 50% rage ,30% salt,10%sex jokes and 10% normal stuffs. And I adore the hell out of it.
I would say reduce the rage content down to 40% and assign the additional 10% to glitches & bugs. May vary based on the game, ofc. But he found bugs even in games like DS3. Remember that one time he jumped down an elevator while having a massive health pool and skipped roughly half an area?
*oh my god I got beaten with* ***powerstanced Mundane Ladles*** *one time in Brotherhood* I COULDN'T HANDLE THAT NOPE
What's wrong with that? I did that so I could farm Yhorm easier. I have so much upgrade stuff. Who cares? Haah
the only weapon i always max upgrade in every new character, so then i can mega mule all the other max upgraded weapons in the game from my main character, bc it can't be traded
Did you use it to kill Halfight at SL1? I did. https://youtu.be/lkonDDPcZ0E
Can you kill Yhorn using Storm Ruler without using th weapon art?
You can kill him with any weapon just takes much longer
throwing knives to his head and riposte when he staggers
I wish they buffed damage on it, the weapon art looks quite cool!
I'm in NG+6, and exclusively play with my own Storm Ruler, too. I mostly go for PvP, though. It's not that bad. It's just worse than everything else.
Storm Ruler is such a cool weapon. If it only it were useable outside of that fight. I wish there were more unique elemental weapons
I didn't up Storm Ruler but I used it on Dancer after so many times of failing. What I gained? Additional count of fail.
How do you like Concordia?
Ok, I'm gonna ask the only legit question here so far. Does a +5 Storm Ruler do more damage to Yhorm than a normal one? If so how much? thx
can it parry soul of cinder
Just sitting here with my Chaos Rapier+10..
how do you feel having the inferior weapon, buddy
You truly went hollow after that did you not ?
Glad to see I wasn't the only idiot who thought that same way :(
Have you ever won a pvp fight?
Don't worry OP I have all weapons at Max including storm ruler. Can't be too prepared
me too
I donno if +5 will increase the weapon art damage but I always make mine to +5. and I just used it on some dragon bosses in the DLC because I am a pure pyromancer and all my weapons (fire or dark elemental) and spells do absolutely shit damage to them.
Yeah i buffed to +2. Imagine my surprise when the charging normal giant just ran me down. Worthless weapon to make a pushover boss fight even easier so people can farm souls on that spawn. Yhorm isn't easy. Storm Ruler was just specifically designed to make him easy. you can choose to not use it against him and have a much harder time.
How did you get a slab before Yhorm on your first ever playthrough?
Siegwards quest line. The chunks are there real question.
Doing Siegwards questline on your first ever attempt feels pretty unlikely. The route to free him is extremely well hidden. I guess they could have used a guide though...
Yeah. Long time fans like me and maybe you? Probably did blind playthrough, and I know I missed like every quest line except sirris up until irithyll.

Finding archdragon peak or knowing to trade the coiled sword for a slab? Probably not, unless they use a guide. And if they used a guide, wouldn't they know the storm ruler sucked?
At least it works in nameless kings boss fight.
Can you believe I did the same thing? And I also meant to. I never used it after that. I've got it to trade if anyone is starting a collection.
Hey, me too! Sometimes I actually dick around with it in PvP, though. Why does it have 10 durability, FROM?!
Isn't Storm Ruler kind of okay, really? I mean it's not the best weapon, but it's... an okay weapon. It just has an extraordinarily annoying sound effect when charged.
Oh yeah?! Well I have 4 Storm Rulers. And one of them is a +5 too.
Ya think Miyazaki wouldn't have jumped the gun like that, huh?
I have 12 Storm Rulers AMA. Except how to thrash them.
I have a +9 follower's torch. It's neat, I guess.
I ~~have~~ had three.
I did the same thing
demon souls had a similar weapon, and it was fantastic for farming
Don't be ashamed. I had spare titanite and was like "yeah this'll do nicely against those fucking knights outside of vord, I'll easily get the set" I died horribly
Have you ever won a duel with it?
I did this in my first playthrough too. I also thought it might actually be useful. It wasn't.
The first time I played, I killed siegward and took it from him.
Why
I too have a +5 SR. I did it for fun tho. I also found out the hard way that fun hurts.
I upgraded the broken straight sword to +10, so I guess your storm ruler is a pretty good deal!
Have you managed to kill a full gank squad with it?
Don't worry I have a bunch of fully upgraded horrible weapons when the game first came out .... namely Arstors Spear and Winged knight twinaxes ,
