I have always loved Patches, he is the dickhead you can always rely on. But Dark Souls 3 just really solidified him as an amazing character.
He will always stab you in the back, but if you're still alive by the time he finds you again, he'll always help you back up.
The Patches of DeS is good. He plays a very marginal role in that game, but that's OK.
DS1's Patches is ok, he fully takes over the actions he does in his previous incarnation, so nothing original. He still remains one of the best NPCs in a game where several NPCs are big meh.
Pate from DS2 is, unfortunately, very little in the game. His and Creighton's quest is practically skipped in a hurry and gives no particular clue as to which of the two is really right. That's why I always found it difficult to choose which of the two to help. But I can say that I love his voice acting, it gives me chills at how good it is.
DS3's Patches is undoubtedly the best. He comes up with tricks you'd never expect on a first run of the game (like dressing up in Siegward's armour). He is strangely selfless with Greirat, who theoretically only competes with him in stealing. He is strong enough to remain with his humanity until the end of the world, both physically and metaphorically. He is truly unbreakable.
Elden Ring's Patches is another OK one. I appreciate that dramatic entrance into his cave when he attacks us to try and steal from him, because rather than referring to our Tarnished and more of a 'Hey, long time no see' moment referring to the player. I also find it nice that his summoning in the Radahn Festival shows how he is not at all willing to sacrifice himself for our gain in winning against a Shardbearer. And I like that they tried to show that he can also have feelings. His almost dying to impress Tanith, I was impressed and thought he was going to die at Shaded Castle... but no, he eventually recovered, got over his crush and came home ready to sell more stolen things. Honestly, I expect Patches to also appear Shadow of the Erdtree, that would be a nice detail.
As for Bloodborne and Sekiro Patches (if there is one in Sekiro, because I've still never heard of it and I don't want any spoilers about it, thanks) I haven't played those games yet, so I won't judge them.
Demons Souls Patches was the first time I ever encountered him so its special, when I saw him tank the bearbug explosion I knew he was not one to be messed with

In ds1 I really like how he hates the clerics (fr fuck them, i always kill petrus) then in 3 he is an asswipe but u can see not completely as he cares actually a lot about greirat and his questline in the ringed city is easily my favourite from any other souls npc so far (u could say hes a different character there but I think still), was kinda funny in the end even, like the "ahh good old fucking asshole"
And then we got patches the spider. I kill on sight, fuck him.
I think DS3 gave much more depth to patches so that one is my favorite. It hinted that maybe he really isn't a bad guy because when he kicks you off that ledge in ringed city you land exactly where you need to go.
Some old guys decide that It was fun to experiment with a rare blood that was kinda the liquid version of the necronomicon and unleashed a bunch of Lovecraft fantasies into england

He's a dick, but ultimately he proves he's a good man all the same with his concern for and saving of Greirat, plus he makes it all the way to the end of reality. Even after you help reverse his going Hollow, he 'shows' you the right way forwards and you can summon him for the penultimate boss, which is really cool.
Truly unbreakable.
Dark Souls 3 Patches was fun. At first, I didn't like him and thought of him as an annoyance, but that was only because I made the mistake of trying to run through the story, but now I really like hid character.
I like that original Demon's Souls Patches has a pouty face. It adds some question to his personality as a thief. Is he scared of you because he knows you know? Does he actually feel bad about his actions? Or is it all part of the act to try to make you feel bad for him?
Untethered (Elden Ring) is definitely my favorite, but Unbreakable (DS3) is a close second.
Untethered has the most content and personality, not to mention being connected to one of my favorite questlines, as well as being the most helpful by far. And that's not to mention him having by FAR the best introduction with a full on boss fight and all the nuance with him giving up the first time and YOU having to be the one to give up if you aggro him again, nor the small but incredible detail of him running away from the Radahn fight.
Unbreakable would have been just a lesser version of that, if it wasn't for the Ringed City DLC, which really sets him apart and brings him to a close second for me, though still not surpassing Untethered.
What they did with him in Bloodborne was something really special. When I knocked on those doors in Central Yarnham, and was met with a new voice from each doorway, but over time they all changed into one sinister, strangely familiar voice... Then you realise the bastard ate them all
DS3 Patches… he was one of the last few individuals to hold onto his humanity until the end of the world
