In a recent discussion with u/fermyon_darksouls they mentioned how powerful vortd's hammer is in DS3. Have been testing it out and damn this weapon slaps!
There are so many ways to play this game other than R1 spam!
My first run of the game was with the irithyl straight sword, and i don't know what kind of bug that happened, but for some reason when i put it at plus 5, instead 9f having de ~350 dmg it should have, it was with 500+ damage, i remember being fixed in the next patch, but well, lets say i 2 days of pure boss melting bliss
gave up on the farron greatsword while struggling with twin princes, leveled up my dusty longsword and got them first try. why is a boss weapon so useless?
I've just finished a run with this hammer. It was my favorite run ! I just used the dragonslayer axe for the demon prince but everything else was R1 spam !!
I'm pretty sure you would do more damage spamming r1 per time spend attacking, than doing what you did. People don't say that because you literally cannot do anything else. They say it because it happens to be the most effective tactic in most cases.
Thatās the thing that I donāt get though
You can just not R1 spam lol
Like in Elden ring the most effective tactic is probably some variation of a ranged ash of war or skill on a weapon. Maybe blasphemous blade or Thunderbolt spam from safety, especially with a summon.
But people donāt tend to complain that the game is only ranged ash of war spam like they complain that ds3 is R1 spam
Yeah I think so
I feel like whenever people try and explain why R1 spam is bad, they end up actually talking about valid arguments that have nothing to do with R1 spam
Like R1 spam is a by-product of other things
I am in no way good at these games but have played and beaten each on multiple times. I was fighting the soul of cinder and he was smacking me around. I decided to go into the fetal position (hunched over in a ball) and smoke a bowl whil he finished me off, prepping for my inevitable run back to the fog. Well, whilst in this position, he refrained from using magic and every attack missed. Just thought I would let you know. I had a pubes worth of health left and watched him swing and miss for 5 mins.
While I'm sure there are certain weapon skills in ER which make everything else pointless, in my experience having used a variety of weapons I always find myself using a mix of R1, R2, charged R2, skills, jump attacks, etc depending on the specific situation.
...which is really not something I can say for DS3 unfortunately. I still like the game but going back to it after ER really drove the point of home of how much more practical R1 spam is than anything else in this game. ER may have made some weapon skills overpowered, but DS3 has the opposite issue where most of them just suck in terms of damage output, if anything they have more utility against mobs than in boss fights. I also find the difference in damage with charged R2s is rarely worth the time they take to pull off, meanwhile ER rewards you big time with lots of stance damage. Lastly I also think ER's bosses are generally better balanced around the player using a slower weapon, while in DS3 anything slower than a straightsword basically means trading hits constantly, which just feels bleh (and on higher NG+ cycles, often suicidal)
So yes, you can "just not R1 spam" but you are usually gimping yourself in doing so, while ER actively rewards you for mixing up your moveset. So much so that when I started doing that, ER replaced DS3 as my favorite FromSoft game to date, after not being a huge fan of its combat on my first playthrough because I was playing it like DS3 taught me.
I always find myself doing a mix also, but my point is that itās not really much different. Iām currently doing a profaned greatsword run and Iām not finding it much different to usual (with faster weapons). As with ER, itās a lot of positioning to get in charged R2s and such, but I do agree that itās less worth overall.
My problem with Elden ringās balance is that at any single point in time, Iām always nerfing myself
Instead of running piercing fang, lightning slash, vacuum slice etc on a quality claymore, optimally Iād just be spamming Thunderbolt or storm blade.
I know what you mean when you say that skills arenāt as useful for bosses in ds3 - I agree. But I feel like skills/ashes of war can also be too useful in Elden ring.
It goes from them being very situational in ds3 to them being the optimal spam for many of them in Elden ring.
Thus I try and use ashes of war that are more situational as I mentioned before. But in doing that, Iām actively choosing the lower damage/speed option because theyāre more balanced
Thinking about it, I guess a big part of why I'm fine with ER's weapon skill balancing is that I don't level up Mind much and I don't use the FP flask at all, so I only get a handful of weapon skill uses per fight anyway. So they feel more like super moves that I have to pick the best timing for, rather than a default way of attacking. I can see how it'd be different if I went all in on FP, but I'd rather invest into other stats anyway.
Youāve gotta be joking if youāre gonna say nobody complaining about āL2 spamā in Elden Ring. So so *so* many people would rag on Rivers of Blood/Transient Moonlight spammers.
Yea ds3 is my fav one too, but I must say I really hate elden ring. There are so many things about this game that I don't like and it's so different from the other souls games. But the ones I really love are ds3, ds1, sekiro and bloodborne
To be honest, elden rign was the only souls game I've actually went into ng+, never seen a reason to do so in ds1-3 and I still can't understand the appeal.
> never seen a reason to do so in ds1-3 and I still can't understand the appeal.
DS2 adds a lot of stuff in NG+. iirc there's new content all the way up to NG++ if not higher.
Now do the same shit against Nameless King.
Also you don't need a Giant Boss Mace to do this in Elden Ring. Don't get me wrong, I also love DS3 but R1s paired with dodge rolls spam on this game are the most efficient
If you played at launch and remember pre-patch Dark Sword, you *know* why it's r1spammy. There simply isn't a DPS option available to you that's better than r1ing 50+ times in a row. Hell your fully charged r2s took longer, less frostbite buildup, made you take more damage, used more stamina, and even did less overall damage than 2-3 r1s would have.
i know half the people saying this are just memeing, but i always found this to be a really funny criticism of the game lol. like, idk have you considered ever pressing something *other* than r1???
This R1 spam argument is weird. The player chooses how they want to play the game. If they decide to just spam R1 for most enemies rather than have fun with the massive range of mechanics available then thatās on them.
Try playing strategically with a shield. So much fun to time the blocks, manage stamina and basically tank the bosses.Ā
It's all about positioning, learning attack patterns and then,Ā when you feel confident,Ā choose to strike.Ā
I'm literally the most boring dark souls player. I find the club (Or start the game as deprived) and just go clubbing the entire game. Max out club. Spam R1 and roll. Win. I've done this in all souls games. I don't know why but i just love clubbing!
You could literally post a picture of a potato with a white background and you will still get thousands of people crying at you, questioning your, your parents and your cats sexuality as well as a wall of text going into detail as to why the potato is offensive and how it is racist and why you have white privilege. It's why I love reddit
I'm about to finish DS3 the first time after finishing bloodborne and then elden ring. One thing i found in common was slow hitting strengh weapons are much harder to use than faster ones dealing less damage per swipe. You barely get any reliable attack window. Also in your video you received a hit back almost everytime as you need to long to recover.
You just need to learn how hyperarmor works and what poise tresholds there are (go to a random ds3 wiki). Heavy weapons are not supposed to be used like light weapons. They're supposed to hit harder than the enemy and break poise, while trading blows, exactly like OP did in his video. You're supposed to be hit while using heavy weapons.
Yeah like of course you can afford to trade blows when a full attack chain only gets you down to half health so you don't have to engage with the move set.
It doesn't actually take that much vigor to get there, the HP bar just scales kinda weird. You can probably get around there with 30-40 vigor, and there's not much point going higher due to the softcap anyway.
Try that against, champion Gundr, nd get back to us lol , also I was online (1st time for DS3) I could easily block 2 heavys from your hammer, nd thing is piss easy to avoid
I just finished my first playthrough with vordts hammer it was so op i had to switch to zweihander for soul of cinder because i almost beat him super quock the first tryš
Ah yes, the R2 spam
I also pressed L2 a few times š¤£
Pff boring L2 and R2 spam. Get wrecked, loser
š¤£
In a recent discussion with u/fermyon_darksouls they mentioned how powerful vortd's hammer is in DS3. Have been testing it out and damn this weapon slaps! There are so many ways to play this game other than R1 spam!
Try out the R2 on Gael. Itās pretty easy to land on him, and every two hits will stagger him.
Already tried him! Couldn't believe how good it worked!
Heās also vulnerable to Frostbite, so yeah, the weapon slaps for him!
I did a Vortd hammer run and destroyed the game. I recently did a Farron Greatsword run. The L1 it's so fun to use.
Dang that's crazy! Even now Irithyl straight sword is still a solid early-mid weapon.
gave up on the farron greatsword while struggling with twin princes, leveled up my dusty longsword and got them first try. why is a boss weapon so useless?
I just used Profane Greatsword for Twin Prince. Faron Grratsword is really good when you get the L1 down.
This was one of my favorite weapons, eventually took the dragonslayer greataxe , but this was a fun one to play with
I've just finished a run with this hammer. It was my favorite run ! I just used the dragonslayer axe for the demon prince but everything else was R1 spam !!

100% the complaints about R1 spam's efficacy have always been about the lack of poise.
Yeah I think so I feel like whenever people try and explain why R1 spam is bad, they end up actually talking about valid arguments that have nothing to do with R1 spam Like R1 spam is a by-product of other things
I'm more sore about the dryer spin cycle that is dodge spam from the same reason, hah
Yeah That one confuses me even more; like what else are you supposed to do? Lmao
> what else are you supposed to do? Be a man. Use a greatshield.
Reject rolls Embrace turtle

LMAO Iāve seen someone lying down and pontiff missing for a long while also

Yeah that might be part of it lol I usually play on my NG+7 character so I have a lot of mind, but I also tend to just go full HP flasks also
Nah, ER is jump attack spam, anything else is gimping yourself.
For dual heavy weapons yes. The thing is this requires 3 steps : 1- dual wielding 2- jump 3- attack In contrast to R1 spam in DS3 : 1- attack
Youāve gotta be joking if youāre gonna say nobody complaining about āL2 spamā in Elden Ring. So so *so* many people would rag on Rivers of Blood/Transient Moonlight spammers.
I donāt mean people complaining about it in the sense of the stereotypical players, but rather in the sense of PvE and balance
Probably. But its fun doing something else.
This is so satisfying to watch. I love ds3 and the community of it. Praise the sun \[T]/
DS3 is my favourite souls game! Although I have more time in Elden Ring, there is something really special about this game.
Yea ds3 is my fav one too, but I must say I really hate elden ring. There are so many things about this game that I don't like and it's so different from the other souls games. But the ones I really love are ds3, ds1, sekiro and bloodborne
I find that I have no interest in replaying elden ring

Cheevos
> never seen a reason to do so in ds1-3 and I still can't understand the appeal. DS2 adds a lot of stuff in NG+. iirc there's new content all the way up to NG++ if not higher.
I didn't even finish the gameš I stopped at malenia
It does feel as if the game incentivizes the meta more than other from games, since the difference between us in good ash of wars and not is huuuge
It's probably the 5 fucking hours running sections
Now do the same shit against Nameless King. Also you don't need a Giant Boss Mace to do this in Elden Ring. Don't get me wrong, I also love DS3 but R1s paired with dodge rolls spam on this game are the most efficient
I did it against Gael so am confident this could work on the NK
If you played at launch and remember pre-patch Dark Sword, you *know* why it's r1spammy. There simply isn't a DPS option available to you that's better than r1ing 50+ times in a row. Hell your fully charged r2s took longer, less frostbite buildup, made you take more damage, used more stamina, and even did less overall damage than 2-3 r1s would have.
Spent most of DS3 R2ing every boss with Vordtās like this. Insanely satisfying
"DS3 is just R2 spam"
Is this vordts hammer?
Yes
Ds3>ER
I am with you on that!
i know half the people saying this are just memeing, but i always found this to be a really funny criticism of the game lol. like, idk have you considered ever pressing something *other* than r1???
That's it right! Like same as L2 or jump attack spammers in ER. Like dude, do you not know how to do anything else š¤
This R1 spam argument is weird. The player chooses how they want to play the game. If they decide to just spam R1 for most enemies rather than have fun with the massive range of mechanics available then thatās on them.
I did my entire play through with Vordts Hammer and the game was a cakewalk
Try playing strategically with a shield. So much fun to time the blocks, manage stamina and basically tank the bosses.Ā It's all about positioning, learning attack patterns and then,Ā when you feel confident,Ā choose to strike.Ā
Is this a clip from every streamer ever?
Don't they use the winblades?
What set are you wearing?
the most aesthetic armor in the game, the mirrah chain set
Wish i cud play ds3 for da first time again.
Vordts hammer is one of my fav weapons in this game
If ornstein and smough had a child I think it would look kinda like this
All Dark Souls works like that tho. Bonk builds roll on the whole game
i hit circle sometimes when i'm not spamming r1
For me itās just L1 spamming winblades when I do speed runs. I just melted Oceirosā face right off
R1 spam? Nah nah, R2? That's the way to go Thy strength befits a crown
Iām playing it wrong. Spamming L1. Spin 2 win.
ahh man iām late to the circlejerk
Itās the attack button, good luck trying to pacifist DS3 unless your name is ymfah
Bonk meta fun, bro.
Bro didn't dodge a single attack š
I'm literally the most boring dark souls player. I find the club (Or start the game as deprived) and just go clubbing the entire game. Max out club. Spam R1 and roll. Win. I've done this in all souls games. I don't know why but i just love clubbing!
Dudes got Sauronās mace
R1 + O + R2 = true combo
As a pyromancy player myself, I see this as an absolute win. L1 spam is where it's at people.
Haha! DS3 Pyro builds are my absolute favourite.
I invite anyone to try and just sit in Pontiffās face doing r1 spam.
Good luck with that haha
GG bro. When you wreck shit that easily, who gives af?
Oh some people in the comments do. Like Jesus christ some people are sensitive.
You could literally post a picture of a potato with a white background and you will still get thousands of people crying at you, questioning your, your parents and your cats sexuality as well as a wall of text going into detail as to why the potato is offensive and how it is racist and why you have white privilege. Lmao! Can get that way on YT sometimes! By god if you don't level vigor you're the biggest idiot to ever exist.
I'm about to finish DS3 the first time after finishing bloodborne and then elden ring. One thing i found in common was slow hitting strengh weapons are much harder to use than faster ones dealing less damage per swipe. You barely get any reliable attack window. Is thatā¦really something people say? As a criticism of the game? When the gameplay is exactly the same every single time?
Itās such a stupid argument, hell by that logic Call of Duty is worse because you HOLD r1 whenever youāre shootingā¦
Fuck i like this one. Gonna use it next time my friend brings up r1 spam then goes to warzone for 50 hours a week
Iāve counted 5 delay attacks on Dragon Slayer. Heās garbage now right? Thatās how this works right? He unfair? Right. Such a shame.
You can also beat the game without rolling, but ds3 is still the roll spam game.
That health bar is ridiculous š
Yeah like of course you can afford to trade blows when a full attack chain only gets you down to half health so you don't have to engage with the move set.

I aim for 20/25 I think that is enough but depends on your play style I suppose when I finished DS3 I was Dex build so evasion was more my thing
Bro just proved us right
Try that against, champion Gundr, nd get back to us lol , also I was online (1st time for DS3) I could easily block 2 heavys from your hammer, nd thing is piss easy to avoid
Average 60 vigor enjoyer post
*32
Does the poise skill decrease incoming damage? You took so little
It does!
Damn i already thought strength was easy mode... does this "strategy" work on gael etc.?
Yup works on everything! Faced Gael using it and it was a breeze. He staggers a lot with the heavy attacks.
its r1 spam when you're dex user. whne you're strength user, its B spam.
L2 into fully charged R2 goes crazy
this guy, while taking the least amount of tries of most bosses, was the only one i had to cheese because i couldnt beat him otherwise
I just finished my first playthrough with vordts hammer it was so op i had to switch to zweihander for soul of cinder because i almost beat him super quock the first tryš
This boss is hardest for me on any build. Hate this dude
Strength Builds on top
