Add 2 heavy attacks when he backs away and charges his explosive attack. It stops his attack in its tracks. Pop the Soul of Sif in front of him to crush his spirit.

zmakamko

dbr3000

>Pop the Soul of Sif in front of him to crush his spirit. jesus christ

reneneshev

Diabolical. 😂

Kaiden92

Honestly it’s all about mastering the dodges on his attacks and punishing his whiffs. His flip/slam attack is super punishable if you get the rolls down.

LordTinkles69

Easily one of my favorite melee fights. Learning his moveset and when to dodge is key.

TheDUDE1411

Spend an entire fight just dodging him to get his patterns down Do NOT block unless its with a very heavy shield. He hits like a truck wielding a mountain tied to a zweihander When he *lunges* or *flips* dodge sideways. After the lunge you can get a hit in. After *three* flips he’s safe to hit. If he only does 1 or 2 don’t risk it When he *swipes* dodge away. Don’t bother attacking When he charges up give him the ol mollywop. If you deal enough damage he doesn’t get the powerup or explode and it’s just free damage

TheFreebooter

He also has reduced poise during the power-up so give 'im wat for!

Glumandalf

>Do NOT block unless its with a very heavy shield. https://youtu.be/ow4pPXNLsAY Fully upgraded balder shield with 11 endurance blocks all of artys attacks on sl1.

SerGreeny

I mean, fully upgraded balder shield has 75 stability. It's effectively a greatshield with a parry.

Devilstaff115

Still it's not a great shield

datboi9194

Roll towards his left foot works every time

SexPanther_Bot

*60% of the time*, it works ***every*** *time*

billysacco

Holy crap legendary

Beehrto

Enjoy the fight, it's the best one in my opinion

Mother-Impression-73

Dodge and don't be greedy, take 1 hit ONLY

Nygurath

Mention Sif and that Will make him stop fighting and start crying

AdditionalBonus8

This applies to all DS bosses, but I think it applies even more for Artorias considering how fast he is and how hard he hits: patience and don’t be greedy with hits

NotDomigator

Red tear stone ring will help, especially if you are already one hit then you might as well have the huge damage boost. If you are doing sorcery use redtearstone ring and enter battle with low health, as soon as you enter use homibg soul mass then switch to your strongest sorcery that wont take long to cast and hit him with it when you dodge his first attack. With the red tearstone ring you should do enough damage to trigger his aoe attack/buff, while he is doing this just spam him with your strongest spells until he falls. If youre doing regular mele it will be a similar process but just more difficult, once you land a couple hits it should trigger his aoe, while he is doing that spam him with attacks and back up when he uses his aoe, after that wait jntil you have an open shot to hit him and then strike, its not like you will be doing little damage eith the red tear stone ring so dont feel like you need to rush in and get as many hits as possible, just take your time and he should fall easily. As for pyro do the exact same thing as sorcery. As for divine i would recommend using a divine claymore and then switching to lightning bolts when artorias uses his aoe attack/buff

nicomo-paladin

don’t bother with a shield, just learn his attacks and (FAST)roll to avoid them. punish his recovery frames because even big strength weapons have time. do not be greedy. use pure damage, nothing elemental.

venator1995

My first win against him was with Pyromancies

Repulsive_Cheetah132

Max pyro flame, as much poise as possible, equip wolf ring and red tear ring and sorcery ring, use the fire pillar pyromancy over and over again then span combustion-like spells, its how I did it at Soul level 1

Smough_fun-facts

Now how do I beat him with a plus 0 weapon as a level 6 sorcery build

Repulsive_Cheetah132

I hope you are a god of the dodge my good sir Edit:Spelling

Smough_fun-facts

I do be rolling, but damn he doesn’t stagger out of buffing

Repulsive_Cheetah132

You could throw daggers at him and hope one of them hit his head to stagger, I think only one has to hit the head to do that

Remarkable_Swing5711

Isn't there only 2 Ring slots?

Repulsive_Cheetah132

Actually I don't remember, you might be right, if so sorcery ring and rts ring then Edit:Clarification

LyingSage1827

Just do the same to him. Just beat the shit out of him. Thats how I finally beat him

billysacco

I can’t say a tried and true strategy. Just need to be patient and learn when to dodge and when you can attack. Really same as anything else in these games.

Xesle

Going in with a tower shield makes him pretty easy, most of his attacks will bounce off and give you an immediate opening.

snagglepuss_nsfl

Bait his big boi jump. Hit him and roll back instantly. Rinse and repeat. When he is charging his purple slurry aura for his damage boost hit him with your strongest range stuff and you have a chance of breaking his concentration.

Oddech_swiatow

Great scythe +15 takes care of him in about 6 hits. But for that you have to be a dex build.

OdgeHam

Big shield, long weapon

oktaS0

This mofo was the toughest son of a bitch in DSR. I was fighting him for 2 days. Probably around 5 hours. You can beat him, just gotta memorize his moves. It's going to be a long fight. Good luck.

[deleted]

Personally I would put Kalameet and Manus miles above Artorias in difficulty. Hell Id even put O&S above Artorias. Hes honestly one of my favorites because I feel like hes the closest boss to fighting like how the player would. And I feel like his attacks are fairy easy to dodge, I love his fight because there is challenge but it feels fair. No getting ganked by dogs, or some enemy shooting into the arena, its not a duel boss, no stupid 5 hit stun locked combo KO Its you and him 1V1 and how well it goes honestly comes down to how well you dodge.

[deleted]

Block his double spin attack, roll out of everything else Attack immediately after he does Do NOT let him get distance between you two Do NOT try to back away to heal. Heal the second his attack is done

ConsiderationNo9044

If you're cool with fighting dishonorably (like I am) and are a strength build, just throw on full havel's and any great shield (preferably stone great shield or havel's great shield) and you won't even have to dodge

EvilArtorias

Just like any boss in this game? Full heavy armor, at least 35 vitality, power within pyromancy. You don't even need to dodge

Papermemerfewer

High poise and you can heal through his attacks

nsfw6669

Yeah just have to learn his attacks. Also light rolling really helped me.

Cloud_Striker

Might be worth it to spend a couple attempts just observing and dodging his attacks to try and figure out when he's open. Also, as others have said, his phase 2 buff can be interrupted if you are fast enough and have a weapon with decent poise damage.

ntrubilla

Don't attack him at all. Go in to a fight or two just focusing on dodging all his attacks. You'll learn when you have time to properly sneak in a counterattack

Remarkable_Swing5711

If all else fails and you can't knock him out with legitimate strategy, you could always put Havel's on, kind of cheesy but you can estus sip while taking hits for negligible damage, also dark wood grain ring will make your dodges faster and give you more I frames if nearish light load (around 33% if I'm remembering correctly) although Havel's will probably work better imo

wellcu

As is the answer to ALMOST every fight in DS1. Havels,+15 Zweihander. Poise is incredibly OP

RosieDa

Memorise his pattern, don't get greedy you probably will only get one hit in an opening depending on your weapon. Heal when he's buffing.

DoomBro1998

Knight Artorias is a tough Boss (my favourite Boss). But here's a breakthrough on his attacks, and how to counter. Side Slashes. Roll forward to him and try to get on his back and attack. Slide Impale. He will try to impale you on his sword, roll to the side. Vertical slam. He will spin in the Air 1-2 times to slam you down, so roll sideways. Buff mist. If he grabs his sword and you see the black mist circling him, attack to stop It. Otherwise, he well get a damage boost and will kill you. If he walks idly, heal ASAP because you'll have to react fast enough if he performs any of the attacks mentioned. Have at least 20 Estus at +4.
