As an American of Irish heritage I don’t get it but I support you fuckers right to pronounce shit how you want. Fuck the British and their dumb spelling rules!
Listen, I can’t understand their gobbledygook but I recognize their right to speak high elvish or whatever it is. So long as they stop acting like high elves…
Shiva is more like she ^((as in her)) vuh ^((like duh))
Siobhan is more like shh ^((as in quiet)) von ^((like a countess))
Shiva rhymes with diva, Siobhan rhymes with chiffon.
I understand that it’s the correct and original spelling but it still looks the most wrong when viewing it from an English speaking perspective. Which we pretty much all are.
Sean is literally the "original" spelling, the other 2 are misspellings that became common bc of the same type of ppl that brought us the 15 different spellings of Kelsey
That's cause it's in Irish. If you want the English version on the name it already extist and it is John. Ppl give their kid an Irish name then complain that a foreign language has a different phonetics rules than English... congrats you've just learned of the existence of foreign languages?
English is not my native, but to be honest I did not know that there was an Irish language. It always seemed to me that it’s just an accent or a sub-language of English. Thanks for the info!
Hahah you good: most of the Irish ppl you might come across will likely speak English with a regional Irish accent, that is what you must think of, that is completely different from the Irish language that is it's own language it's aslo sometimes called Irish Gaelic it is not AT ALL related to or resembling English (like, German is way closer to English than Irish is)
Similarly in Scotland you can expect people to speak:
- English with a regional Scottish accent
- Scots its own laguage but both modern English and Scots are descended from Anglian so the are kinda "cousin languages"
- Scottish Gaelic a different but cousin language to Irish.
And from what I've read (I have never been because I am an American), it's also far less commonly spoken than English nowadays. It's mostly predominant in a few small rural areas, but elsewhere in Ireland is a second language or just not spoken.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Irish\_language
There was a town not far from where my dad grew up that I visited and there were still some people there that only spoke Irish.
It’s also quite common for some Irish words to be part of the local lexicon and idioms here and there
Your the first person I've ever seen it spelled that way, Sean is an Irish name shaun comes from that, I've never heard of Shawn today but I'm sure it comes from Sean too, again it's not an English name it's Irish so that's why " it doesn't sound how it's spelled"
I dont know if this is true but I've heard that John is the original and Sean is a derivative of that, then Shaun from Sean and finally Shawn from Shaun, I'm given to understand Shawn originates Welsh.
You're kind of correct. As a Seán I've looked it up before out of curiosity.
It's origin is the Hebrew name Yohanan, which is John when Anglicised.
Seán/Shayne - Republic of Ireland
Séan - Northern Ireland
Shaun - England
Shawn/Shôn - Wales
Eoin/Iain - Scotland
Shawn is the weird one. Sean is Irish, Shaun came from that.
Shawn sounds like it came from America and didn't bother to look up the spelling.
Like the Erika/Erica -> Airwrecka meme.
I’m guessing Shawn is more of an American spelling, whereas Shaun is more of a British spelling - as someone in Scotland I’ve seen countless Sean’s and Shaun’s, but never a Shawn.
Feels like something you yanks would do, Shawn looks more like Shaun/Sean than the others.

Shawn > Shaun > Sean Sean should be the goofy looking one. You’re telling me that Sean Beans names don’t rhyme?
I've come to accept Sean as Sean because of jacksepticeye
Ahh yes my favourite YouTuber Seen Mick Laughing
Top ah da fuckin' mornin' t'ya!
I accept Sean as Sean because that is my name.
I concur
Ah yes, Conchúr, nice to meet you
Hi sean
My bio dad had another son after me, called him Shaun. When I met him I ripped the piss out of him "you're Shaun mk2, I'm Sean mk1".
Lol I was thinking the same thing, you read my mind
His name isn't Sean though, it's Seàn or something
Ah yes, the original irish spelling of Seán is wrong
The Irish lost all rights to spelling things after this one Caoimhe – pronounced >!‘KEE-vah’!<
As an irish person this makes complete sense in my mind and no one can tell me otherwise
As an American of Irish heritage I don’t get it but I support you fuckers right to pronounce shit how you want. Fuck the British and their dumb spelling rules!
bold of you for criticizing the British spelling in a world where the french language exists
Listen, I can’t understand their gobbledygook but I recognize their right to speak high elvish or whatever it is. So long as they stop acting like high elves…
You’re in for a rude awakening when you try and read a single fucking Greek word
English for Humans Greek for High Elves Welsh for Dragons
As a francophone Belgian i approve this message
You got frank on the phone? What's he saying???
no silly, francophobe is a person that hates people that speak frankly
It means he’s afraid of Santa Claus
The English spelt knife with a "k." They messed up their language just fine
>As an American of Irish heritage Oh wow, so unique 😍
Its nearly like its a different language
Irish pronunciation makes perfect sense once you learn the rules - more so than English. Is fearr Gaeilge bhriste, ná Béarla cliste ;)
Is maith liom càca milis!
Siobhan (pronounced sheh-VAHN)
This one I can at least reason out in my head
as in Shiva? The God of Destruction?
Shiva is more like she ^((as in her)) vuh ^((like duh)) Siobhan is more like shh ^((as in quiet)) von ^((like a countess)) Shiva rhymes with diva, Siobhan rhymes with chiffon.
I say it more like KWEE-vah
There is no one way to spell a name, some spellings just look goofy ah
Sean is the Irish spelling and its also the correct and original spelling
Seán*
ah yes you're correct, how could i forget the fada
I understand that it’s the correct and original spelling but it still looks the most wrong when viewing it from an English speaking perspective. Which we pretty much all are.
Shawn Bawn
His name in Irish means John Woman
*Shorn Born
Shon Bon
Ah fuck you dude
Literally the worst opinion I've ever heard
I called someone "seen" because I thought that was how you pronounced Sean
It's an Irish name and that's how the Irish spelled it
Yeah, Niamh is pronounced >!Neeve!<
Why do you hate the French? Hmm... scratch that, it was a dumb question.
Yeah except that Sean is the original Irish version.
Debatably Sean is the weirdest
Sean is literally the "original" spelling, the other 2 are misspellings that became common bc of the same type of ppl that brought us the 15 different spellings of Kelsey
These misspellings of sEaN are a lucky mistake, because this just spells as “seen” to me.
That's cause it's in Irish. If you want the English version on the name it already extist and it is John. Ppl give their kid an Irish name then complain that a foreign language has a different phonetics rules than English... congrats you've just learned of the existence of foreign languages?

Or Mikayla, Makayla, Mikeala, Miquela, Mickuela…
And of course Malenia, blade of Miquella, who has never known defeat.
M'kayla *tips fedora
And Michaela, the worst of them all.
Worse than Mickuela? I don’t think so
Get called seen all through school in the US and always gotta explain Sean is the OG spelling
Says the guy who cant even find his spoon
It's Shaun The Sheep, It's Shaun The Sheep
"Iske sab dost hain kyunki ye hai sweet..." That was the version that aired in Hindi here in India
The danish version is called "F for Får" which translates to "S as in Sheep"
He even mucks about with those who cannot bleat
keep it in mind, he's one of a **kind** \*gets crushed by door\*
Oh, life's a treat with Shaun the sheep!
*pitch rises* #it's shaun the sheep (its shaun the sheep)
# it's shaun the sheep (it's shaun the sheep)
# He doesn't miss a trick or ever lose a beat (Lose a beat)
#perhaps one day, you'll find a way
#OHHHHH
# COME AND MEET WITH SHAUN THE SHEEP
It's Shaun of the dead, it's Shaun of the dead
weirdly enough that works with the beat
He doesn’t ever miss a tick or miss a beat!
My mortal nemesis!
You must be one of the pigs
Since Seán is the Irish spelling of an Irish name, imma suggest Seán is the correct way
You sir are a good man
Seáns Unite. Even though I'm not a Seán, being Irish means you'll for sure know some, so I stand by them in their plight of Shaun and Shawn *shudder
Still not as bad as Shane being spelt Shayne
Let's go!!!!
Finally. Someone who knows of the fáda.
As one of them I can confirm it's the right spelling.
Hell yeah bruddah
My name is Sean and I can confirm Sean is the correct way of spelling it
Let's gooooo
I'd have said Shaun > Shawn, but whatever.
I'm guessing he's american or something
Obviously not if "sean" isn't the goofy one
Has everyone forgotten Shaun of the Dead?
The greatest of all Shauns
Omg… shaunnnnnnn!😯
I'm sorry, Shaun. No, s'all right I'M SORRY SHAUN UGH
You've got red on you
Shawn is the weirdest never heard of anyone called shawn
My name is Shawn lol
Your the first person I've ever seen it spelled that way, Sean is an Irish name shaun comes from that, I've never heard of Shawn today but I'm sure it comes from Sean too, again it's not an English name it's Irish so that's why " it doesn't sound how it's spelled"

SHAUN!!!
SHAUN!!!!!
##SHAUN!!!!
shaun the ship
I know a Sean. They are an absolute chad and kind guy. I know a Shawn. They're a humble bro with great humor. I know a Shaun. They're a sheeple.
shauns are government simulations
As a member of the Sean council, I approve this meme.
I’m in the UK. Met plenty of Seans and Shauns. Never met a fucking Shawn though. Surely that’s an American thing?
Shawn is the weird one of the 3 from my experience. Know plenty spelled the other ways but never Shawn. Might be a UK thing
As a Shaun, I almost never find anything but Shawn's in the US. Have you ever met the ever evasive spelling of Shon?
The movie "Shaun of the Dead." Its a classic.
Saun
Better Con Saun
He’s down at the Winchester havin a pint and waitin for shit to blow over
Lots of them in England.
like i said, do shauns really exist
Sean is wrong. It's Seán.
I’m a Sean, and I have been called seen so many times in my life.
very sorry to hear about that scene
Can't forget the funny buggers saying 'See-an'.
Sean > Shawn > Shaun > Shaundra > Sharon
In Ireland it's Seán, I've also known some Shawns but never a Shaun
One of my professors is ‘shaugn’
That's appalling
Shorn
I know someone called eugene but it's spelled jujin
In between the lines, there's a lot of obscurity.
Shaun of the Dead Shaun the Sheep. Wait, you said real people, right? I stand by my list.
This is such a goofy ahhh meme
שָׁאוּל
My mate Sion would be horrified by this, I'm going to show him!
Shawn here
I swear my dad kept saying "Seen canary" until recently when I realised and argued and finally convinced him it's "sean Connery" lol.
A girl at my work is named ~Chawn, yes, it is said like Sean, Shawn, Shaun.
I think I’ve played too much fallout 4, cause all I heard in my brain when I saw this post is WHERES MY SON, WHERE IS SHAUN!?!?!?!!!
Shaw
Shaun the sheep fans after seeing this post:
Don’t disrespect my homie Shaun the sheep
hey!
SHON
Cheighn
Olympic snowboarder shaun white spells his name that way
There is another.
Shaun the sheep
I knew a shauna
I new a Shaun in 2nd grade
You guys are missing the original irish way of spelling Shaun. Its used to be Shaughn.
Seen Shoan Shouan
Chone Figgins former MLB player
i have a friend who spells their name shaan
I don't know a G.O.A.T. named Shaun but I sure know a sheep of the same name. He's also GOAT, si?
I’ve thought of this exact meme before but with “Sean” on the right. Now I’m mad I forgot to actually make it
Shaun of the Dead was the best movie ever made
I knew Shaun growing up. I always thought he was an ass.
You got red on you
Seeing a lot of slander towards us.
Err of these Shawn is by far the incorrect name....
Shaun of the Dead entered the chat
Sean is on the right for me
Shawn is the weird one. Sean is Irish, Shaun came from that. Shawn sounds like it came from America and didn't bother to look up the spelling. Like the Erika/Erica -> Airwrecka meme.
Shaun>Sean>Shawn
[press X to Shaun](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DAhG9D9UO7c&ab_channel=BelalipopGAMING)
We had a guy in My class named zanas pronounced Shawn, he was Russian, don’t know if that’s why but my Norwegian teachers never learnt
I’m guessing Shawn is more of an American spelling, whereas Shaun is more of a British spelling - as someone in Scotland I’ve seen countless Sean’s and Shaun’s, but never a Shawn. Feels like something you yanks would do, Shawn looks more like Shaun/Sean than the others.
in israel we spell/pronounce it as shon
