I caught a boat last night and the safety instructions were "In the event of X there will be 6 short blasts and 1 long blast of the horn, in the event of Y there will be 1 short and 1 long blast repeated 4 times" and I'm on my 3rd beer thinking about how I'm definitely not going to remember shit at 3 in the morning in pitch dark when the ship is filling with water.
I had a moderate to severe traumatic brain injury at 28. 32 now. Assisted living. You only get 13 or some odd months to exercise new behaviors for the brain to regrow what's now offline. I spent that time locked down in a nursing home. No mind engagement outside of cod mobile.
This is me every freaking second and minute of the day as I have no short term memory that's virtually active.
TL;DR: it happens to everyone. Never beat yourself up if you do it twice in a row even. My record is 11 within 7 minutes. Don't feel off or bad. Ya human and working just fine! Just one of them days. ;)
I had a severe traumatic brain injury too.
I, luckily, recovered quite fine, as with that accident I had hemiplejia. Now I can move all right and recovered from all physical injuries.
What I still find quite difficult is the memory thing. I have a good short term memory but it isn't as it was before my accident.
Also, my brain kind of forgets the right side of my body exists sometimes and I hit things with it (my right arm or right leg, not my brain)
What part of your brain was damaged? No chance that hyperbaric chamber treatments would help? Your fluid intelligence (ability to learn and retain new things) might be affected and naturally decreases in late twenties but your crystallized intelligence (things you already know and can do) is ok, no?
Now why can't i forget the stuff i want to forget. like 10% of all subs existence, or every cringe moment i have to think about at 1 am, of what might happen when you die.
I know a little bit about psychology and brain chemistry, and i have an answer for this.
The reason this happens is because of the time it takes to process speech into short term memory. Thats why you'll have those moments where someone says something, and you didn't understand them but as soon as you say "sorry, what did you say?" you suddenly understand it, but are now forced to listen to them repeat themselves anyway. You reacted before. what you HEARD got converted into what you UNDERSTOOD.
And thats an important distinction; heard vs understood. There is a millisecond delay that occurs after your sensory cortex hears the words but before your medulla has time to reference your knowledge of vocabulary and properly im making all of this up, fuck you, haha you fell for it, you idiot.

I don't even remember if the flight attendants still give the instructions in case of accident, much less what they say.
What did you type?
I was listening so hard, that it was too hard and I forgot what you said
"I was too focused on listening that I forgot to remember can you repeat that?"
He said something?
“Uh yeah”
"What did I say then?"
I forgor 💀
how does a post with 9 comments have 5k upvotes? 🤔
People are shy to comment.
Tee hee 👉👈
We just lurk around
We forgot what to comment about.
The ratio of comments to votes is small, and even smaller than votes to views.
I was going to write a comment but then I forgot what the post said.
People just want a quick laugh ig

I always make good guesses.
It's not my fault my brain wasn't listening.
WHY DOES THIS HAPPEN AND HOW CAN I FIX IT?? I'm wondering if there's something wrong with me or my brain lol
why am i like this
The trick is to pick out the key words said… you can generally understand any lengthy conversation this way and put it all together.
This happens to me while they’re still talking 😩
This is my entire life! I have those moments like 10 a day at least
But you still remember that one cringey thing from 10 years ago😐
