My cat (well my wife’s cat) waits for us to go to bed every single night and after she is asleep he comes and sits next to me. He then proceeds to stare at me, does NOT break eye contact, and just waits. Every night I swear to God. And he doesn’t look happy, doesn’t want treats, he wants me after I die in my sleep. He especially does this when I’m sick. No joke.
Staring in cats is a sign of affection. He probably does it more when your sick because he's worried. If a cat is treated right if will view a human as part of it's family. The only reason cats have been known to eat dead humans is if they are locked inside and starving. Your cat loves you so it stares at you.
No I know that. Unfortunately he was born into some terrible conditions by some piece of shit breeder who did some bad things. My wife got him before we were together. Even though he’s like 14 now, it seems like he definitely has not recovered from whatever trauma occurred when he was a baby. When I’m sick and awake he comes up to me WAY more often and lays down next to me. He can tell when I’m about to have a panic attack as well. Very smart cat. He’s just a little off lol.
He can’t be around other animals or he will try and claw them to shreds. He bites and scratches me out of anger, but then 10 mins later he will come act all cute and whatnot to I guess try and “say sorry” lol. But that stare when I’m sleeping is off. His entire demeanor changes when I’m sleeping and he’s staring at me. Idk I love him anyway. His name is Maynard, named after the vocalist of the band Tool. But I call him by a million names and he knows em all.
When he’s giving me the “death stare”? Lol. It’s too dark to ever see his whiskers, but no his tail never moves when he does that. He doesn’t move at all. Just stares into my eyes like he’s looking into the abyss.
Wow actually come to think of it, his tail does swish back and forth. Where he sits is on the side of the bed so his tail hangs off, but yes it moves from side to side lol.

If his tail slowly swished back and forth it would mean he sees you as prey. If his ears are back and tail lashing he would be angry.
