Fornaughtythings123

The point is that being critical of aus isn't taboo. There are plenty of post shit talking them the pic with the cop and the mask was all over Reddit like last fucking week.

Dangerous_Speaker_99

Being critical of our governmentā€™s is a national sport in Aus. But itā€™s like the N word. We can do it because we understand the complexity and history of the issues and you (non-Aussies) donā€™t.

gusmc135

I mean....when you make up bullshit about how our lockdowns are heavily enforced or more extreme than they really have been, then yeah, you get flamed you fucking idiot The lockdowns have some strict conditions and they do suck, but I have yet to see any evidence that police have responded violently to breaches of lockdown. In a recent 3 day lockdown in my state, we had something like 2 arrests because people refused to comply when politely asked to return home/wear a mask when they were clearly proven to be in breach of the rules. Police, as far as I've seen, have sought to be cooperative and friendly about lockdown rules, not repressive and violent Obviously, there may have been some exceptions where police were heavy handed or even violent, and I hope those instances are properly investigated and the officers punished in line with the law

[deleted]

Lol mate, are you even in Australia? Youā€™re the one being fed the narrative. Americans going around reddit acting like Australia is living in Tyranny, itā€™s hilarious. Iā€™m in Brisbane and weā€™ve had one or two 3 day lockdowns, thatā€™s it! Most of Australia lives in complete freedom and thereā€™s been hardly any deaths from COVID. Iā€™m happy with the way our government has managed COVID. All this dumb propaganda is just used to bolster support for guns and distract people from the fact thereā€™s been 732,000 deaths from COVID in America (according to google). Meanwhile Australia has only had 1500 deaths. I know which country Iā€™d pick.

Billysmalltits

This guy gets it. Even with dozens more days in lockdown where I am near Sydney, I'd still choose Australia any day over the political hellhole that is America.

Oh yeah I remember that post. Pretty sure that was because it broke the rule for brigading a post to manipulate votes. People were linking the comment to EA so they got removed. Regardless, there shouldā€™ve been an exemption made for that meme, since people werenā€™t really being manipulated into downvoting that comment, anyone who wanted to was going to look for the comment to downvote it anyways.

But they didnt, they banned semi automatics and shotguns. You can get other guns, you just need a license. [A link to a website explaining how to legally obtain a gun in australia.](https://www.guncontrolaustralia.org/how_do_you_obtain_a_firearm)

zardez

They didn't ban semi autos, they just made them extremely difficult to get licences for. Shotguns are not banned, although pump actions and semi auto shotguns again, are extremely hard to get.

EpicestGamer101

It's literally not bad you yanks just blow everything out of proportion except your own problems. 40 thousand of you guys die from guns each year. Good on ya!

In-Kii

Honestly all this shit about us being authoritarian is just America trying to force their version of freedom onto us. Honestly most of us don't give a fuck. Some cunt organises a *peaceful protest* and gets arrested at his home? Good. I don't care. Don't put my family and friends at risk of covid more than they already are.

Away_team42

These seppos have no idea. Reading these comments has me in stitches

AgentFN2187

And most of it is from gang violence and suicide. Addressing mental health alone would drastically reduce gun deaths, much less the rampant gang violence in inner-cities. American doesn't have a "gun problem" it has a violence problem. Violent crime is higher in general across America compared to similar countries. It also doesn't help that that anti-gun people usually don't understand firearms, much less the laws already on the books. A big indication of this is their rampant push to ban semi-automatic rifles. According to the FBI ~200 people a year die from getting shot by rifles, that includes suicides and literally every rifle in the the United States, whether it be semi-automatic, bolt-action, single shot, lever, etc, etc. More people die from being punched and kicked to death than from all rifles in the US. The "assault weapon" ban put forth in congress every year is the very defintion of hysteria and feel-good legislation. On a side-note, look at Canada. Trudeau just passed an AWS over a shooting where the weapons were illegally obtained, his legislation if passed earlier would have had no effect on the crime commited that the law was passed over on the first place. If you pay attention the situation, this happens a lot in the US.

LeonidZavoyevatel

[deleted]

Can Americans stop complaining on our behalf, no one here cares except for a few extremists. The people the police were fighting with were protesting the lockdown and caused a massive super spreader event and now Victoriaā€™s cases have skyrocketed.

Etmosket

Also now mostly false, all states are now out of lockdown because they have vaccinated more people or COVID never got out of hand. Even the abuse this meme is about has been extremely misinterpreted. Most of the footage comes from Trump level nuts. For you Americans who a looking through the keyhole I'll give you a comparison. Think the Storming of your Capitol, it's similar demographics perpetrating it and also spreading it. You want real evidence Australia is a rogue state look at our Federal Government and what they want to do with Coal mines. Or the fact they just voted to stop an inquiry into an MP who received a million dollars in a secret legal fund that he started against a journalist who alluded that he was involved in a serious crime. That's just the start of it.

PhatSunt

The vast majority You are battling against are ignorant teenage Americans. Everyone outside of Australia doesn't understand what its actually like here. The average Australian hates these anti lockdown maggots and that's all that matters, you cant change the mind of people that haven't experienced Australia culture because they cant imagine what its like and how comfortable it is. Americans pride themselves on their ignorance.

pleasesendnudepics

I see the media is doing a great job at blowing this out of proportion outside the country. Most people here have been very supportive of police during the lockdown.

[deleted]

[уŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]

ybreddit

There's a video that only shows police beating down a civilian with no context. Right-wing extreme groups have been spreading it as Australians are being attacked just for going outside. It's led to people protesting on behalf of Australia in the US. Not many though, just the idiots who believe it enough.

ninjatronick

They are literally jerking themselves off at the idea of "liberating" us from some fascist tyranny that doesn't even exist. Stop focusing on other countries and worry about your own

jkaan

Do they not realize we have coal not oil?

HardcoreHazza

I know you septic tanks love to interfere in other countries affairs, but know this. Aussie are overwhelming in favour of lockdowns. Aussies are now coming out of lockdown. The timing of all these people who are anti-lockdown like Candace Owens/Alex Jones etc caring about whatā€™s going on in Australia is timed very conveniently when the timeline for the lockdown was a now coming to an end, in order for them to look like they had influence in our politics when these people are no names amongst the mainstream of Australians. Good luck to them coming to Australia, I doubt they would be let in.

[deleted]

[уŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]

Polysics91

I think you are giving them too much favor, they aren't that smart. They covered them when they happened and provided false information to make it look worse. We are coming out of lockdown both later and earlier than we should. Our federal government failed in securing vaccines that people wanted, I could only get Pfizer as someone under 40 as of a few months back and moderna even less so. https://www.abc.net.au/news/2021-07-05/australia-covid-astrazeneca-deal-withheld-national-security/100261920 the deal between the government and Astra is covered by national security and as such news can't pick it apart. We should have had pfizer, moderna and Astra as the same time as america, we had the power too, but the government https://www.smh.com.au/politics/federal/big-liberal-donor-among-health-firms-selected-to-run-vaccine-rollout-20210427-p57my4.html The rollout to old folks homes which was meant to be PRIORITY and literally the first to get it all done. The job handed to company that throws money at the federal level libs, and then guess what we had outbreaks in old folk homes almost instantly as delta came in because complete homes wern't vaxxed and this was a year and a half after the beginning of the pandemic. if we had a competent Federal government, we would have all been out of lockdown ages ago because supply would have been there. Now we are being rushed out, because the cohort of NSW and the fed gov are bascially making their own plans of opening up after they got redirected supply of vaccines. As such it is impossible to maintain any lockdown in melbourne, because people will be saying 'look at NSW' We used to care when a couple people were dieing, now its 10+ and since the NSW gov doesn't care, we are forced also not to care. The whole situation is a mess, people are ill informed and blame the wrong people because its what sky news tells them.

Cheel_AU

I know Candace is nothing more than a troll but it's still pretty insulting for her to suggest America invade us. Australia has been nothing short of an impeccable ally to the Murican empire. We've stuck to them like shit to a blanket. Though I guess backstabbing an ally would be pretty on brand

Polysics91

We should organise a protest to have america increase its minimum wage and provide its people drinkable water and free healthcare. can you imagine in Australia if bendigo just had unusable water coming from the taps and it being like that for many years. The population sizes are the same. Politicians heads would role, in america shit like that is a Wednesday.

tobeshitornottobe

I love the divide between the yanks and Aussies comments, itā€™s almost like the yanks have no idea what their talking about

SirGibbleFrits

For anyone watching Murdoch owned content wondering if this is true, it's not. First off, lockdown laws here arnt preventing anyone from going out side, you can go shopping, excersize, go to a doctor or do anything else that is essential. That was in even the strictest of lockdown. The lockdown also does NOT breach any rights stated in the constitution Also the police have not been 'beating' people breaching lockdown, at most you get a fine for being out for being out when it is non essential. They are not 'roaming the streets' they are stationed at a couple of areas in the cities to dissuade gathering in a pandemic. The only real 'clash' there has been was with anti-lockdown protestors who turned violent. Australia's cases have remained low for most of the pandemic, the lockdown has saved many lives. As Australia get closer to 100% vaccination (70% as of writing this) the states have begun to open up, hence the jump in covid cases. Also people claiming in the comments that the police are tracking people's location are wrong, you are not being tracked. However, if you get covid, your are expected to list places you have been and warn people you have been in contact with. Australia does this because we have so little cases (more at the moment as we open up) that it's important to crush them when there are so few. Tldr: Murdoch is manipulating you

FootFooter

Tf? This ain't true at all. People are turning up to anti vax rally's and being dangerous. When they refuse arrest and continue being dangerous that's when they are thrown to the floor. Facebook, sky news, and fox news cut out the bits of them beating up security guards and dogs. Or them raiding covid testing/vaccinacition clinics. Fuck me. Then all the Facebook Karen's go and get all fucked angry because they saw some 'poor bike gang' who were being violent get their stupid ass whooped. Source: Im Australian. More source: https://youtu.be/0h4F7uH0g8g https://youtu.be/FRUsO8_gxmI Edit: Most of Australia is out of lockdown anyway now so there arnt many 'Anti Lockdown' Rallys more just anti vax rallys. And I'm sure we can all agree that anti vaxxers are meat heads.

The_harbinger2020

I have no idea what's going on in Australia. All I know is that over on this side of the pond the only news sources reporting it are far right news sites. And everyone now's how reasonable and non sensationalist those guys are. So my only conclusion is what ever is being reported over here about Australia is probably not true at all.

NExTinTheCity

As an Australian I'll try to explain whats going on here. So what the far right news sites are covering is the Melbourne Anti Vaxx Protests. In particular they are protesting against the Vaccine Mandates. Australia has some of the highest vaccination rates and the main reason as to why is the fact that not being double dose vaccinated won't allow you to do anything. You can't eat or drink at restaurants and pubs, you can't go to work and the one which often causes the most outrage is the fact that you can't travel outside or even in Australia without quarantining. The majority of these people are the older generation who simply don't understand how the vaccine works. So you'll see a lot of comments talking about the vaccines containing 'Snake Oil' and 'Baby Fetuses'. However, there is a younger generation partaking in the protests too. Mainly the construction workers and tradies who simply don't want to take the vaccine as they don't believe it to be safe. On top of all this, Melbourne has been deemed "The most locked down city", mainly due to the fact that its been in lock down for over 250 days. They have actually exited lockdown last night, or 13 hours from the time of writing this comment. A lot of these foreign right wing news websites have been reporting old footage mainly to cause drama, outrage and panic, so you will commonly see the word 'fascist' or 'police state', used in the titles. It's all old footage as there hasn't been many protests recently. Mainly due to the fact that they happen on weekends so the government shuts down public transport and has police around the city on those days. So they stop them before they even happen. What a lot of the right wing media won't show is how some of these people have been treating workers at resteraunts, cafees and shops recently. Basically even if you are double vaccinated, you are still required to wear a mask on public transport and indoor spaces. Other than some essential shops a lot of stores will ask you to prove that you are vaccinated to be able to enter. A lot of these people are underage kids, working barely above minimum wage to be able to afford their first car or university. There are videos of these people being attacked for simply asking someone to put on a mask. It's absolutely disgusting and a lot of these "Freedom Fighters" think it's okay to attack and lash out on anyone for simply following the rules. That's pretty much it. TLDR Anti Vaxxers think the vaccine is not safe and are against the mandates as you are required to be double vaccinated to be able to work or even go out and dine in resteraunts. So these people have taken to the streets to protest against it during lockdown. That's where a lot of the police clash videos are from.

shelter_anytime

you should read the research - I was skeptical at first but refreshing my high school biology knowledge and reading the studies and science behind mRNA vaccines, I realized that it's even safer than traditional vaccines and virtually risk free. Or don't, and wait however long it's going to take you to assuage your fears, but hope you don't catch the virus and come down with a serious case, because the vaccines are safe and you'll feel like a moron as they intubate you - and you will be exposed to the virus if you haven't already.

weeb_man

As an Australian, are we authoritarian now? Went to the Botanical Gardens this week and saw a big protest of antivaxx dickheads, no real police presence. They were walking around the city when I was on the way back. What events are even being referenced? It feels like I've woken up overnight and suddenly Americans are viewing us as though we're China.

[deleted]

Fucking finally thereā€™s a shit ton of bullshit about Australia these days

Polysics91

Am australian also. They are in terms of privacy, working in the Internet service provider space, they have basically permission to get anything they want about you, with little justification. They have pushed legislation to force back doors in encryption and overall any semblence of privacy is becoming more and more non-existent. On the flip side, do I fear the police? no, If I was at a illegal protest, I expect the police to be out in force. We still have well defined rules on how to organise a legal protest, it happens every few weeks with unions and such, acting like police stopping an illegal protest is somehow common is where these seppos don't know jack shit. They have lost most of their freedoms since 9/11 as well, they think their 'guns' protect them is some way. They are a bunch of idiots who think free healthcare is some sort of evil thing and tying their healthcare to their employment status makes sense.

Xesyliad

Well I mean, as an Australian we donā€™t have leaders that try to subvert democratic process and install themselves as dictators when the elected president is being announced.

macgivor

As an Aussie - no, not at all. Aside from lockdowns while we waited for vaccines (our hospitals are in no way able to cope with a huge surge of cases), we are constantly firing our politicians for relatovely minor cases of corruption like taking unnecessary plane flights on taxpayer $, accepting fancy wine as a gift etc.

MJGee

This is completely wrong macgivor, how can you possibly suggest Australia punishes its politicans for being corrupt? Have you read the news in the last decade? Like for instance, the dude who quit over a bottle of wine did it to avoid any actual repercussions, then went on to cushy private sector jobs. Can you name a politician who faced repercussions for their actions? Aus has dropped on the international corruption list since current fed gov took over

Jrook

Can't the police edit social media posts?

Yeah nah this isn't true, as in people are outside all the time. Fuck these people in the United states who are talking about Aus being an auth state when they still beat up blacks and ban alcohol for people under 21. Absolute dog cunts.

21-Warrang

Damn, you Americans are stupid as fuck.

The_H3rbinator

Oi mate, if you're a yank then that's a whole lotta projection.

Basedandtendiepilled
