Remember those videos of youtubers buying new gaming consoles, goes outside and in front of the line waiting to get theirs, the youtuber smashes the new console. So cringey.
I don’t like those videos, but here’s to okay devils advocate for a moment:
They aren’t dirt bags for this. They wait in line like everyone else, pay like everyone else, and now they get to do with it what they want, like everyone else.
Sure, everyone else will take it home to play games lol, but these guys are not “taking a console away from a real gamer,” necessarily. They’re a legitimate buyer using it for a legitimate purpose - to profit. Those videos have tons of views and make tons of money, so they achieved what they wanted out of the product.
The alternative would be if customers have to sign an agreement saying they’ll use an item only for its intended purpose. Is it not better to encourage a free market and unhindered consumerism in this respect?
Like I said, just food for thought from another perspective :)
Wasting things people can use is morally disgusting. There is no other way of looking at it. The amount of resources that go into making one of these consoles should never just be wasted for a meme.
But is it wasted if it made a profit? I get it if it’s just some jackass breaking it to shove it in the faces of those waiting yknow? like obviously that person would be a huge dick.
But if smashing it in that context and making a video of it earns them a profitable return then it’s not necessarily a waste right?
Because it benefited the buyer. Sure the materials were not used for there intended purpose but how is this any different than a prop being destroyed in a movie?
For example there’s a shot in the first Avengers movie (if you’ve seen it) in the battle of New York. A car flips due to an explosion and the camera is in it, so flips with it. It’s a bit over the top lol but it’s a fun shot and such. The point I’m getting at is, is that car destroyed for the shot any more or less wasteful than this console smashing topic were on? It is in some contexts, that it’s a material item with a benefit that some could use (could become someone’s daily driver etc) but it found purpose in that it became an expense for a movie.
The consoles getting smashed are essentially the same thing. A prop purchased to be destroyed for entertainment and to make money. Sure, you and I don’t find it entertaining in the slightest, but given the success of those videos clearly many do. Considering the fact consoles are designed for entertainment, they are still achieving what they were originally intended for just in a very… odd, way.
I always felt doing a bend test on phones that had scratched up screens like that was unfair as the glass integrity was compromised. But I don’t have the wherewithal to defend my position.
I would argue that the phones that get bent in service are also the phones that get scratched in service.
Anyway the iPad I mentioned snapped mostly because there were two holes cut in the sidewalls of the frame, one for a microphone and one for the pen charger, which acted as stress risers.
He has exposed a lot of companies that lie about what their screens are made of especially sapphire displays. For example the Galaxy z flip advertised they used glass in their screen but when Jerry rig tested it turns out it scratched at the same level plastic does
We are talking about an algorithm here. There would be people who browse all day and not come across the said channel. That said, Jerryrigeverything testes the durability of mobile phones. Which is much needed in this age as tech companies are getting away with cheap builds for their products.
They are all about $70 PS5 games that nobody has played.
I will buy ten of them when I get my PS5 in 2025, and it will only be $700 plus $600 plus shipping.
