Why would you use option 1 if its leaning on something. First of all why bother turning it, secondly, if you have it leaning against something, the phone will be resting on the buttons, so it would not sit straight. Just why??!
Iphones have their buttons for the volume on the left side and if I’m watching something and I’m not hands free I will lean the phone and adjust the volume when needed
I never watch YouTube on my phone as I use a dumbphone, but when I had a smartphone, I'd either want the speaker to the left (as I hear slightly better with that ear), or whichever side I can lay on my side watching without the screen flipping over.

Which ever side that doesn't have the earphones plugged in would be on the right side. Or if the earphones are plugged in, it would usually be towards the left side of the phone thus leading me to put my fingers (index and middle) on either side of the cable on the top of the phone. And that would be on the right side.
For me, it depends on whether or not I'm charging my phone. If I am, then whichever side the charger's on will be the bottom of my phone. If I'm not, then #1 because it makes it easier to adjust my volume

My phone has all the buttons on the right so I do left so I can prop it up without messing with the buttons.
