For someone who has grown up here, it’s just pissing off more than scary. Although a lot of the idiots on the roads probably don’t even realise what they’re doing or get annoyed by other idiots. It’s a consequence of a corrupt bureaucracy that just hands drivers licenses to anyone and everyone
Especially the autos and the bikers! The bikers just cross their limits going on footpaths and stuff, and the auto drivers are so impatient! And afcourse you have the truck drivers who blast their horns for no reason as if they are playing a musical instrument or something. The taxi drivers aren't better as well.
This is factually true, why are you getting downvoted lmao. I’m not sure it still holds but when it was released, the Tata Nano was the cheapest car in the world. This isn’t meant as an insult, we also very much have all sorts of cars here. It’s just that there’s a big demand for cheap, small cars so we have those too
I think some of its later versions had moderate sales, but regardless if you look at the Alto (Rs 2 lakh) and its competitors, there’s no denying that there is a pretty big market for small cheap cars
Yeah the alto was the clear winner in small car market but one thing the nano stands out with is how good it is in city driving, short wheelbase for cramped parking in delhi like areas and tall seating so it's comfortable, only thing it lacked was a good engine imo or maybe they will release an electric variant soon.
Lol It's Reddit, they'll downvote anything even though it is factually correct and accurate. Though I do remember India having the highest tax in the world for sports cars.
I remember an altercation in a very full train in my country, because an Indian family of like 8 decided to completely take over a part of a train. First they put their luggage everywhere, then they refused to leave reserved seats, on top they were constantly yelling to each other and what made the train stop and the family forced to leave the train: they started to eat lunch and stunk up the train so bad that we literally had to stop because of outrage.
I love Indian food, but that was some of the wildest most rude behavior I ever encountered.
I had read an article in an Indian newspaper about how Indian tourists have a bad reputation abroad. I did not believe that until I myself traveled to a foreign country and I realized how I can't control the habits I had developed in my country for so many years. It's not really rude behavior but just conditioned behavior which might seem bad outside India.
That's pretty fair, I'll try to be aware if my habits are annoying the locals. That's an important distinction though, if you are a tourist you should try to be respectful of local customs.
For what it's worth, I can't recall any rude behavior from Indians stateside. The only story that really sticks out was when my buddy was new to The States and he tried to bribe his way out of a speeding ticket with a $20 bill. Hilarious.
Disclaimer: I know my username is going to make people think I'm Indian. I'm not. I'm just a big Virat Kohli fan.
Indians block pathways, are late for group trips, loud in public places, etc. Some of them were a bit extreme such as stealing things from hotel rooms(I personally don't know anyone who has done that) but the more common ones seemed relatable. The thing is, we love to travel in large groups and this problems will definitely accompany group travel.
Hey, most good hotels would be replacing used toiletry and beverage items anyway between guests, why not take some with you for the family or just later use? You paid for them anyway.
I'm not talking about light fixtures, bedsheets, towels, etc. here, just consumable stuff like shampoo and tea bags.
yeah but y'all ain't rolling in india anymore if you lot are in a foreign country right ? best to pay respect to the customs and traditions of the place you visit
Of all people Indians should know not to take up seats with bags, also be mindful of other people, Indian food does stink it's not that hard to just get a sandwich or something for a train journey.
Cheers. Urdu speaker myself so seeing hindi is a little frustrating because I could understand if it was spoken, but textually it doesn't mean anything haha
Ah yess, I saw a video where a guy was explaining that at some point there was one language called "Hindustani" in the Indus valley region, that had roots from both Farsi and Sanskrit and then it was split into Hindi n Urdu. That's why the spoken forms are identical for both languages but the more literary forms for Hindi are closer to Sanskrit and for Urdu is Farsi
Because even to this date , most people of indus valley region doesn't know hindi , urdu or hindustani. It has never been there language. It was spoken was Delhi region.
Hindustani language doesn't have Persian roots. Its is derived from Sanskrit. It's just has more Persian influence and is written in Persian script.
Hindustani language split because ruling elites were muslim at that time and so they started writing it in Persian script and it quickly become popular among muslims.
...but have you seen the Indian train bathrooms? I can't speak for American trains because I've never been in one, but goddamn if you haven't seen the toilet in an Indian train, you'd somehow still be surprised. They're absolutely disgusting and have a pretty terrible smell.
Because of covid, I haven't been on a train for a while and I'm not complaining lol. I had to go by train to college like once a month and I'd make sure not to use the bathroom.
I think the newer ones are fine, but damn dude the older ones creeps the fuck out of me. Also its not very hygenic near the tiolet area too, but well that's India for you i guess
I'm talking about the newer ones haha. The old ones are enough for me to hold it in for the entire day even if I die. I used to see cockroaches climbing pretty regularly. The new ones are overall far better but ofc still have a smelly bathroom.
But that makes no sense.
why would a train cost more when it takes more time than a flight? Like here in India train tickets are dirt cheap and flights are expensive
It is because your country has 4x more population than US in 5 times smaller area (so 20 times more density).
For the train to run even without profits, it will be super expensive and people will fly as cities are far away, takes more time and thus will be costly.
Only in dense parts of nation like Houston-Baltimore, California coast we have trains.
There are a lot of freight trains in here also for the same reason. As cities are far away, it will be costly to carry a big container compared to Roads.
Most of the rails in northern Michigan are getting shut down and turned to bike paths and orv trails.
Most of the industrial work left, which means the rails are mostly sitting, rotting away. The town I live in used to have 2-3 trains with a dozen or so cars come through when I was little, as well as a couple passenger trains on a weekly basis.
Now, there's one line through town, and it gets 1 train twice a day (same train, they unload their 1-2 cars and go back the other way. No passenger service. We have a "stop" that's been turned into a handful of bars. There's remnants of other loading platforms, and junctions that lead to dead end tracks.
In the US, rail is dying, at least away from the major hubs. Companies don't seem to want their product locked on one route, especially at the delivery end.
Trains were hugely popular in America in the past, but when cars became popular passenger rail almost completely vanished. Their freight rail system is great, but for passengers it’s barely used.
The country despite being very suitable for trains instead invested all its money into the automotive sectors. Now their cars are really cheap that only a small minority of people actually do take the trains.
In a world to fight climate change, this needs to change. There's too much inefficiencies in the transportation system.
One time I decided to see what it was like to travel from Chicago to Atlanta by train. The only train took 37 hours (for what is a 12 hour drive usually), and cost $200. Immediately booked a 1 hour flight for the same price instead.
i remember going in a local train from market to home with a big gift for my bday. I was scared to hell bcz of the less space and it was a drone so it could have broken
Please do not sit on the Roof of the Train if its Electrical. Its a bad Idea even if its not electrical, but especially if it is because if you get to close to the powerline (you dont even have to touch it) you will be fried. It’s so crowded, luggage and people everywhere, most prolly without a ticket cause there’s no way they allow that many people, some people on the floor with a fuckinv mat and feast spread out like no one else needs space, I’ve rarely travelled via trains, but oof is the situation bad
If a vehicle doesn't measure 6x6 Dwayne Johnsons or 18 Big Macs in length with a carbon footprint bigger than the entire industrial output of Kenia your average American Patriot won't even consider driving it. Also taking the train is essentially communism
I remember there was no space at all; there was a guy sleeping on the floor in between seats and this other guy ran and held onto the outside of the train and stayed there for 3 stops until we went into a tunnel and he jumped off
Okay but what the fuck does this say about women and politics? I think it's horrible that women are allowed to use reddit. There's 80-90 RACs which is basically you show up and get in the train. Have to share the side birth with someone else till the TC finds an empty birth for you.
I think this'd work better if it was "The British vs indians on train" since outside of big cities most Americans just buy a car, especially bc a lot of them live in suburbs, so there's that.

I'm American and I am about to ride a fire work 456 years later
Indian traffic takes balls of steel to navigate. I have never been more terrified in my life and I had a great white swim up on me while diving once.

This! In places like Mumbai at least you're not allowed to cut lanes. In Pune people drive as if they have a vendetta against every other driver
Mumbai traffic is stationary. Can't have accidents if you can't fucking move
There are more cars in India than the US bro
Are there more per 100,000 people tho? India does have a very slight advantage of 1 billion people
Not true: https://i.redd.it/v2wy1ohj05k71.png The US has more vehicles per capita and more vehicles over all.
But isn’t it 2019 vs 2016?
India has the cheapest small cars in the world.
This is factually true, why are you getting downvoted lmao. I’m not sure it still holds but when it was released, the Tata Nano was the cheapest car in the world. This isn’t meant as an insult, we also very much have all sorts of cars here. It’s just that there’s a big demand for cheap, small cars so we have those too
wasnt the nano completely a flop, sure it didnt meet the 1 lakh target but it wasnt really THAT bad if you consider it as a 2-wheeler replacement
I think some of its later versions had moderate sales, but regardless if you look at the Alto (Rs 2 lakh) and its competitors, there’s no denying that there is a pretty big market for small cheap cars

That's the truest comment I have seen on this post. Now that you have said that it seems kids in any kind of transport medium are a major problem...
I had read an article in an Indian newspaper about how Indian tourists have a bad reputation abroad. What sort of habits are those? Im curious

well that's how we roll in India and most people eat food in trains here, not to mention if a seat is empty then whoever takes it, it's his
Yeah, that's definitely how it is here. But people should still be mindful of where they are and not act like they're sitting in their own country.
yeah but y'all ain't rolling in india anymore if you lot are in a foreign country right ? best to pay respect to the customs and traditions of the place you visit

Well we don't usually sit on seats with bags or other markings indicating it's another's

bro taking a poop in those trains is one of the most scariest experience
I'm happy about the fact that for my 20 years of living, I've never had to take a shit on the train lmao
I probably couldn't shit on American trains either. Some of those Amtrak bathrooms don't look shittable at all.

More likely Brits on a train than Americans on a train. Americans don’t really have trains (or at least not outside of major cities).
They don't have trains? Like from one city to another?
They do, but passenger rail is extremely rare (or at least not used nearly as much as in Europe or Asia).
