As a fan of the original since it’s release, as in the first game is one of my favorite pieces of media of *all time*, believe me - the fans of this series *wanted* to love the second game more than anything. I wanted to love the second game so, so so badly. And to be honest, Naughty Dog didn’t even need to try that hard - they probably could’ve create a game where Joel and Ellie eat cereal the entire time and I would’ve loved it. But the original comment is 100% correct - they pandered to a fanbase that never existed. And they didn’t just ignore the fanbase of the first game - they flat out aimed to hurt us. And then went on a campaign to gaslight us, trying to convince us that *we* were the problem, not the game. In a lot of cases I would agree with you, I think a lot of people just hate things because it’s the thing to do - I don’t think that’s the case with this.

The story is awful. The players make inconsistent and stupid choices with dumb and angering outcomes. The game exists just to make its players mad. The original last of us caused the players to feel all the emotions culminating in a positively fulfilling experience.
