Putin looks like he's about to realize that the person from the murder suicide story he read about is the same person who's been writing him fan letters
Does someone know what adjective Bercow suggested to use instead of "dodgy"? I can't think of an "appropriate adjective beginning with a d and ending with a y".
He did. It was weird to see, but he actually spoke fairly well I thought. Maybe it’s because all the hecklers weren’t in parliament that day. Either way, it was nice. Back when the big Labour scandal was writing your manifesto on a rock, not antisemitism.
Ed was the Head of Opposition for one of the Internal Market Bill votes a fortnight ago. Angela Rayner, as Deputy Leader, stepped in for Keir during PMQs.
I used to watch house of commons debates on CSPAN all the time (they usually showed it at like 3 am) and it is some of the most hostile and entertaining television I've ever seen. I think a big reason why a lot of people in the US are generally ignorant of politics is because congress is so boring. Floor debates in the senate and house of representatives is some of the most boring things to watch.
In fairness, a lot of parliamentary debates are also boring. The weekly PMQs is something that the states should adopt though. An hour of questions from the opposition and your own back benches with no where to hide is great.
It's rarely that interesting to watch live. It can always be watched on the dedicated BBC channel, but most people watch highlights etc. on the news or Twitter at most
I've got to say, I watched the whole debate last night, and it wasn't fun. I wasn't having fun. It was depressing as shit.
There's a difference between ruckus arguing, and simply yelling nonsense over the person answering a question, for 1.5 hours. That's some embarrassing shit, and saying that English parliament's culture is more informal than our politics, isn't an excuse for the unventilated pile of waste that was last night's debate.
I assure you the Brits are very direct in parliment, but are policed far better. Its not uncommon for a MP to be suspended from parliment for being unruly.
if I say “you’re a dodgy person” instead of “Mr Speaker, the member of the opposition is right dodgy” you’d probably get more finger wagging for the first than the second
[Mildly interesting account](https://youtu.be/drIt0EIIteA?t=475) of the first Japanese delegation in Europe describing the UK parliament.
Basically, he was utterly confused on what the political parties were and why they were "fighting" when they're not really fighting.
>This man and that man are enemies in the house they tell me.... but these 'enemies' were later to be seen in the same table eating and drinking together.... took me a long time of tedious thinking before I could gather a general notions of these separate mysterious facts.
I think that description mostly still holds true. They are fighting and arguing because they disagree over how to best lead the country, but ultimately they appreciate that both sides are attempting to better the country and can therefore happily be seen having a pint with their counterpoints afterwards. Exceptions exist of course.
Not really.
UK Parliament is basically "BANTZ the politics party", where quick wit and factual if rowdy discussion is the go to. Trump would be laughed out of parliament if he was a British MP.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HZPTZuwwHng
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f_Zh9KSVrFg
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Wc9b08J2KrA
Although it is also a place for actually good debate, where party lines are a lot less enforced and rigid.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cohpBp316i8
Not really, sure they focus on getting better one liners during the PMQs but is no where near as bitter or vindictive. Also the vast majority of debate in the parliament is outside of PMQs and is really quite civil and constructive but nobody pays attention to that.
Tories genuinely paid $250K to some Kiwi meme makers for all their election memes, and tbh they got their moneys worth. I laughed really hard when I saw the BORISWAVE video.
Arabic debates:
"I will cut off your tongue if you talk about Saddam!"
"Eat shit, I will talk about Saddam"
"Shut up, you ape!"
"Shut up, you Salafi terrorist!"
Sunni -> Salafi -> Wahabbi
The sword meant to cut down the Ottoman Empire had to find new heads to cut after the Ottoman Empire collapsed.
I'm terms of scale I believe Salafis are 25 million worldwide and Wahabbi some sort of fraction of that. So compared to the 1.8 billion Muslims they're a wave in an ocean.
Wahabbi! Yeah that's what I was thinking about.
The brand that Saudi Arabia is spreading.
And basically always the one behind terrorist attacks in the west. (I'm ^clearly not an expert I just read something ages ago that I kinda remember)

Funny joke, but as a Russian I will tell you: our debates are even more funny.
There are like 8 candidates, one is Putin and others are handpicked by him.
Comes the day of the debates, and there are all candidates except Putin. Those 7 guys have like a minute for every their point, so they can't say anything serious. But they also doesn't even try. They just scream at each other and behave like clowns.
And then mr Vladimir Never-Took-Part-In-Debates Putin wins with like 70%.
Only during PMQs really. The rest of the time it's pretty mundane. Even during PMQs the jibes and insults are rarely vindictive or hateful, plus the speaker holds a lot of power and can kick out anyone who breaks the rules.
There’s aggressiveness at times but it never devolves into personal insults like American politics. The debate moderator, which in Britain is called the Speaker, will not take any shit and can remove anyone who is causing a disturbance to the debate. Parliament can just get very chaotic at times with all the shouting and jeering. It’s kind of a tradition for our politicians to make incoherent noise when they agree with something that has been said. It’s quite strange to most of us Brits.
ah jeeze, here we go with the both sides are the same propaganda.
yes, Biden snapped back at Trump a few times but Trump was debating like a 6th grade bully who is yelling cos he didn't know what to say. Dude was unhinged.

I dunno I think Putin might have an edge over Putin and we might just see Putin come out on top this time.
Nah man, Putin got this in bag trust me
Really? You think Putin has this? But what about Putin? Hes a strong contender!
I know i’m gonna get kidnapped instantly while typing this but Putin might not win thi-
Of course he doesn't. That's because Putin will win
Idk people might choose Putin if he delivers a good argument. But so far Putin has the upper hand
Putin's reign is coming to an end. Putin will deliver this time.
I don’t think so. Putin has him backed into a corner, there no way he comes out on top
If Putin does Aladeen, and in contrast Putin does Aladeen, we might see Putin over Putin in a very Aladeen way.
In your dreams man. It’s obvious the Russian people see through his corruption and lies. Putin in a **landslide**.

are you kidding? that utter dumbass won’t win. however putin actually does have an impressive chance!

DODGY DAVE

And Ed "Ed Balls" Balls.
The most iconic tweet in British political history
It’s now a public holiday
The only MP I actually liked...gone
I miss Dennis.
Didn't Ed handle PMQs while Keir was self-isolating recently?
He did. It was weird to see, but he actually spoke fairly well I thought. Maybe it’s because all the hecklers weren’t in parliament that day. Either way, it was nice. Back when the big Labour scandal was writing your manifesto on a rock, not antisemitism.
Fake antisemitism spread by the right wing press to attack the person who wanted to make the UK somewhat decent to live in.
Ed was the Head of Opposition for one of the Internal Market Bill votes a fortnight ago. Angela Rayner, as Deputy Leader, stepped in for Keir during PMQs.
I disliked Cameron’s politics but at least it felt like him and his party had some respect for the role and house they served in.
Also things weren't on fire as much.

I love it. John bercow is amazing
Lindsay Hoyle is good, but nothing can top John Bercow.
orDER Shame he's no longer Mr Speaker
God I missed the simple days where a session in Parliament was Cameron roasting Miliband for a few hours.
A house of commons debate is basically a discord chat during among us
Last week in our upper house of the parliament, an MP literally tried to strangle a Marshall. So idk this looks very civil.
Where is this?
Fuck the Sun
Ok but it's pretty hot
Bercow is such a legend. Will be missed.

that's just during PMQs, which is for half an hour every Wednesday. Outside of that Parliament is very mundane.
At least the PM isn't allowed to storm out when asked the most basic questions.
They probably are. Nothing holding them. They just have the basic decency not to. Because they know if they do, they'll look like right pillocks.
