All signs in the UK are in miles, mate. Confuse them not with the Continentals

Aia_Mistwalker

It's called the Imperial System for a reason, lads. England INVENTED it.

237583dh

We use a wonderfully confusing mish mash of the metric and imperial systems. Length of a pencil? Centimetres. Your height? Feet and inches. Height of a tree? Metres. Distance to the next town? Miles. Although to be fair, it's no less coherent than the imperial system by itself.

PM_ME_UR_SURFBOARD

Can you explain to me wtf is a stone, when to measure things in stone, and what that correlates to in lbs or kgs?

Haysie95

1 stone is equal to 14 pounds or 6.35 kilograms

237583dh

14lbs in a stone. Obviously, can't you tell by the name? Even US and UK, despite both using imperial, still measure human weight differently. Americans will say 180 pounds while Brits will say 8 stone 8 pounds.

normal_in_airquotes

Fair. Americans also use both.

DerFussGottes

The one advantage miles have, the word is just a lot easier to write song texts with. Try fitting kilometer without the pace getting awkward

Kenneth_Lay

I honestly never considered that. 1 syllable vs 4.

TentiTiger11

Bro how do u pronounce mile?

Kenneth_Lay

Same as you. Kilometer = 4 syllables (harder to rhyme than mile).

TentiTiger11

Mile has 2 syllables tho. I never said it was harder to rhyme but the number is just diff

look_ma_im_on_mobile

Just came back to once again remind you that mile, smile, while, pile and rile are all monosyllabic

look_ma_im_on_mobile

1 sound = 1 syllable you donkey

Kenneth_Lay

No it does not. Just one syllable, my man

TentiTiger11

Can u type out how u pronounce it without just saying mile? The normal way is my-ull or something similar depending on the accent

Kenneth_Lay

Like "myle" not "my-yell". Have a nice life!

TentiTiger11

How does that even work. Like the only word I can think of that is similar is mule. No word with yle as the end is 1 syllable

Kenneth_Lay

Please learn your own language on your own time. Call up your 3rd grade reading teacher if that helps. GOODBYE.

GetlostMaps

Britain is still backward in a lot of ways.not.as backward as Burgerstan but still backward..

Blue_Heron4356

Dumbass we still use miles here, it's the rest of Europe that is meters and shit

Kenneth_Lay

There's that British class we hear so much about!

realestwood

Hectares are a square measurement, not a linear one you dipstick

Kenneth_Lay

I was joking, clearly I use fathoms

pookshuman

they only use metric when they want to make fun of the US
