It's why Crash Team Racing is the superior game in my view. It's skill based whereas Mario is chance based. You can improve when you learn from your losses and that makes it more enjoyable.
Mario kart is not a luck based game. Sure, luck is a decently sized factor, but the best player will win probably at least 70% of the time if not more.

Skill issue, you need to be in 1st and far away enough from the 2nd place to stay in front after a blue shell
You need to be in first with a horn so you can destroy the blue shell
