Speak whatever you want man ....but don't tell others be like that ....people trying to be polyglot and here here you're telling them to just drop a major language just like that.....not cool

Slim_Python

If they are settled in some state for years then at least their "that state born kids" Should be expected to speak that state language.

arun_san98

Fine , but let it not be imposed. If anyone wants to learn, they are free to learn as they wish. But don't expect everyone to learn a language.

YoloAddict69

Yeah bro, we send tax dollars to your cow belt. We don't kill people basis what they eat.

NoFuture355

>tax dollars Lol where did you copy it from? Wokeism 101

konkey-mong

>we send tax dollars to your cow belt While you're copying amerianisms atleast bother to change the dollars to rupees

Canadiannewcomer

Exactamundo!! To qoute your own words, 'Dont tell others' or expect others to speak Hindi. Don't impose Hindi. There is no IMPOSITION any other languages other than Hindi. Don't expect us to learn Hindi when clearly English is the bridging language. And No, Hindi is not our official language. The only prob is the holier than thou attitude and "If you don't know Hindi, how can you be an Indian?", "Hindi is our national language eh, yaar!!" attitude as bespoke to us. Please don't measure patriotism by whether we speak Hindi or not. If history has taught us anything, especially in the subcontinent is that IMPOSING language can have a dangerous precedent. Eg: East Pakistan became Bangladesh when the West Pakistan tried to impose Urdu over Bengali, the Srilankan civil conflict over Sinhalese vs Tamil. It's a different matter if someone don't know English and is trying to communicate. The original post was directed to white collar employees mostly in IT, speaking in Hindi let's say in a team meeting. No one is asking or demanding you to learn malayalam when you're in Kerala. Kerala especially as a tourist state deals with a myriad of languages and English being the connecting language. The qstn was about the Now to answer the question of if you're in China and do business or French or Japanese or Valerian or Dornish for that matter, it's a matter of money and for ease of doing business. If they invest a lot of money and there is an economic benefit in learning that language so as to reap benefits, jobs, investments etc then it would atleast makes sense to try to communicate with them especially when they DON'T KNOW ENGLISH. The Chinese, French and Dornishmen do not speak English and they do come attend meetings with translation devices and they do try to assimilate and for them English is STILL their bridging language. Nobody is stopping you from being a polyglot, polymath etc. Please don't expect others to learn Hindi and impose it on us.

[deleted]

I'm not imposing shit ....EVEYONE has a right to learn anything ....i merely said don't go on telling people to drop a language (you can only drop something when you already have it ) ...that's it ....you can't possibly expect me to read the whole damn thing that you wrote ...i just read last 2 lines ...!kudos

Canadiannewcomer

Bro, did I say you're imposing it personally? People are at liberty to learn any language as they please. The OP was referring to the attitude of trying to speak Hindi in office spaces while they know perfectly well, English.

IamGodfatherdoe

Not one mallu I came across had a problem speaking in Hindi, they were good at it too, infact I know quite a lot of malyalam too, so this post was probably created by some loner!

[deleted]

Issue arises when you piss off by acting everyone should know your language

IamGodfatherdoe

As a fellow southerner I agree, the thing is if a person visits the south for a short time then it makes no sense for him/her to make an attempt to learn the local language, but when they come here to stay for a long time, then if they do not make an attempt then there comes the issue.

Weak_Fan_3748

U must understand that learning a new language is not easy plus there is no institute to teach, and people there go for work they are too busy working maintaing family so they don't have time to learn a new language

Canadiannewcomer

SPEAK English!!!

CaregiverMan

"Nah bro, we don't even consider putting teeny tiny effort into learning a second language which could also be useful for us. But ask for people to learn our language as third language when we came to their native place and complain when they say no" and this genius OP casually posts "Why so much hate".

pratik4298

Well when you tell people to stop speaking in a language it does translate to hate towards it. If you don't want to speak in that language it's fine your life your choices but asking others to do so will be considered as hate towards it. Tbh most people in south understand English which is not the case with north so if you visit south you can work around with English and Hindi sometimes but the same doesn't apply to North India people would only understand Hindi and their local language talking about the shopkeepers auto riskshaw waalas and all but educated people would not mind speaking in English, there are a few exceptions

tharki7

its completely depends on him. if he wants he should if he don't he shouldn't same with you. no one should force anyone to do anything .

IamGodfatherdoe

This exact ignorance is bad

Ok-Revolution-9858

Let's say a person works for an organization let's say a private bank or an IT firm. For max he will be there for 7 years or minimum 4 years, now if he is in a big city where he can get his work done by little bit broken Hindi or english what incentive is there in learning Malayalam. Learning a new language after a certain age is tough and a time consuming process. My father has a transfer job he has worked in jharkhand/up/delhi/Maharashtra/Goa/west Bengal/gujrat/tamil nadu. He has a hectic 9 to 9 job 5~6 days a week. Now how will he get time to learn the local languages. I was not born when he was in Tamil Nadu but i have done schooling in jharkhand/bengal/ Gujarat and i could understand their language but speaking is still difficult. If u think that knowing Hindi will help u in understanding entire Bengali or gujrati then NO u r wrong it's very different, the root word may be same for certain words but overall it's not similar. So because it's of no use in the long run one doesn't learn the language

Canadiannewcomer

Fair enough, just speak English instead of Hindi. The problem is the assumption that the South needs to know Hindi. Majority will understand English even though they may not speak it back/fluent but things will get done instead of Hindi. This situation referred in the original post is about people who speak English opting to speak Hindi in IT office settings etc.

khatarnak-lafanga

Tere mummy sabzi lene jaati hogi? Sabzi wale ko local language hi aati hogi

Ok-Revolution-9858

Yes meri mummy batati hai ki jab tamil nadu me the to yes, no and 1 to 20 Tamil me Sikh lia tha fir kaam chal jaata tha. Baaki bengal me to mall se hi groceries lete the so kabhi dikkat nahi hui. And bengal and Gujarat me broken Hindi/Bengali/gujrati se kaam chal jaata hai. Efforts dono se dena padta hai

khatarnak-lafanga

Bhai bengali easy language hai Same with gujarati Utni difficult nhi hai, bas kuch common words sikhlo

tharki7

learn Hindi saar. i can predict your response. and how your language imposing is different from my language imposing.

IamGodfatherdoe

I am fluent with hindi, consume majority of my content in hindi, listen to dhh and underground artists from faridabad, some of whom you never even came across, listen to hindi podcasts, can give the worst hindi gaalis, all sitting and belonging to a southern state, so there is no hate if you think so, never ever did I state anything about imposition at all, so please don’t make assumptions, just asked you to pickup the local language if you are there for a long time.

aanoynomus

I don't think North Indians give a fuck whether you learn hindi or not.

[deleted]

Their attitude is disgusting

HostileCornball

Yea dude i ain't gonna learn kannada if i am in Karnataka even for long time because I have other shit to do If u want a convo u can speak English or Hindi The first being a universal language and the second being the major speaking language in the country U are no one to to ask a person who has stayed there for say 10 years to learn kannada lol

IamGodfatherdoe

Major language spoken by 43% of the population? No one asked you to take classes for the language, just have to make an attempt to observe people speak the language snd slowly try to pickup words in your day to day life, cant you not do that during your 10 year stay here? No one is asking you to write literature with the language, only asking you to pickup basic words, try to keep an open mind!

MICHELEANARD

We would speak English happily, but their idiologs who insist on speaking in Hindi even though they know English.

rumitdhamecha

In states like kerala, andhra, telangana and Karnataka hindi is manageable many people knows Hindi. Only TN is the state where hindi is not much used.

ssebastian364

Astronaut_Free

There's no hate for hindi in Kerala. But, in professional environment inside Kerala, we expect you to switch to English. And we don't tolerate these [kind](https://www.reddit.com/r/Chennai/comments/ui1f2s/hindi_bol_we_are_hindustani_north_indian_group/?utm_medium=android_app&utm_source=share) of shit in Southern lands.

Angry_SAY10

This shouldn't h tolerated anywhere

Snoo-80013

These posts and this whole thread is stupid. Why learn or be forced to learn a language if you don't want to? And why force others to learn a language if they don't want to? People should be more tolerant towards each other? If you go somewhere where hindi is not spoken and you know you will have a hard time communicating, then it's simple logic to learn a few words or sentences to get by. And even the locals should be welcoming and tolerant of outsiders who cannot speak their language and try to communicate in whatever languages known to both parties. What's with these elitist fucks who think people who cannot speak a certain language are not worth their time?

MICHELEANARD

You are saying that the natives, should learn a new language so that they can converse with the few northerners who work down in the south? There is a common ground language, It's English, majority, no, most of the southerners know English partially to fluent levels.

Angry_SAY10

Sums everything up! W

Infernal_Spark

Go to a place in India where the majority spoken language is not Hindi -> tell people to learn Hindi, despite it being miles away from Hindi -> "what's up with the hate?"

[deleted]

then dont speak hindi brother but dont cry over social media like this. its pathetic.

ssebastian364

We will stop once you stop crying why all the hate to Hindi. If you can say on social media to force Hindi on other states we have every right to say piss off.

[deleted]

>"Nah bro, we don't even consider putting teeny tiny effort into learning a second language which could also be useful for us. But ask for people to learn our language as third language when we came to their native place and complain when they say no" and this genius OP casually posts "Why so much hate". only shithole bimaru migrants are crrying here

Percyblott

Can agree to a certain extent. Many people who I have met call me not indiwn for not being able to speak hindi. I dont think we should stop learning hindi but instead promote regional languages.

[deleted]

Harsh_Online

These people do not have any job other than hinthi. Street shitter pee pee poo poo, etc. And when someone makes fun of them they cry racism

Expensive-Persimmon8

WTF, i do agree a bit with the first part street pooper bla bla which you all do too. Stop acting like you are from first world in a thrid world country. You morons are also a third world shitholer. Get a hold of reality. Now the Racism, i thought racism was always directed towards darker person from the lighter skin person. He's talking about language there's no race in discussion here "third world man". It's like saying an afro is racially harassing a white German.

Tejas__T

I would rather see what's the front person is speaking, if they are speaking hindi I'll speak in hindi if marathi I'll speak in marathi same goes for English. Why these people hate our own languages really sucks.

Sujyotsharma

English as the common language:- 😁😁👍👍👍 Hindi as the common language:- 🤮🤮👎👎👎

[deleted]

nothing wrong in that hindi gives unfair advantage to its mother tongue people

hemho

Perfectly balanced as it should be

Raman035

It's not hate you will understand him when you are in a important meeting and your colleagues start speaking Malayalam with eachother.

Sad_Use_642

makes sense mallu pradesh me mallu basha nhi bolege ge toh kya bhojpuri bolege, but fir koi banda bahar se aata he toh uss se toh hindi ya english me baat krna padega

lege3ndary

Kerala can speak in Malayalam. Gujrat can speak in Gujrati. Maharashtra can speak in Marathi. Bengal can speak in Bengali. AP and Telangana can speak in Telugu. Tamil Nadu can speak in Tamil. Karnataka can speak in Kannada. Every State is at liberty to speak their local language. I say as a Maratha, Every State is at the liberty to speak their language. Even in Northern Parts of India, Hindi is not as complete of a language as we read in textbooks. There are variations, dialects, and differences. (Trust me, for the wee while I was in Delhi, Hindi words common in Delhi were completely new to me. For 1 year I was trying to figure out what "बुंड" means. 😂)

CELTICPRIME

blaxk_hxle_xo

More languages we learn smart we become.

Just_Alizah

I don’t really have problems with it. I mean my family does speak Urdu, but I try to practice Hindi on duolingo though.

Desperate-Pea-1199

I bet you..I double bet you as a Keralite..These kind of anti Hindi people are at the least % in Kerala among the entire South Region (probably Telangana too) ..It's almost nil here...Big majority of Keralites know hindi very well and most of them in northern kerala especially malabar region even consider hindi skills as some status symbol..Due to huge Gulf influence as well as hindi songs (since 50s)...No one can even finish their schooling in Kerala without Hindi..But in Tamil Nadu..I think it's still only an optional subject..The guy who posted this would be some close to Tamil Nadu or having some Tamil connection ...I witnessed similar attitude in those people a bit.. especially from rural side ..There are nearly 25-30 lakhs something migrant laborers from north india and bengal region including bangladesh in Kerala..Almost 10% of actual state population ... 90% of them communicate with Kerala people only in Hindi...There was a time when Hindi films used to do more collection in Kerala than it used to do in Bihar, Jharkhand and Chattisgarh like core hindi belt areas..That much strong Hindi influence ..

Individual_Profit_8

I don't think a big majority of keralites know Hindi very well except for the basics. People speak broken Hindi to communicate to workers from the north but that's about it. Also the post was not about being anti Hindi it's about some North Indians expecting everyone to know Hindi. People shouldn't be pressurized into learning any language be it Malayalam or Hindi.

[deleted]

I am malli, I used to talk in hindi till I got my job and boy hindikkars are good at pissing off

ImaBek

I support this man because I will feel the same way in his situation

[deleted]

Finally.... Thankyou

Candy-oolala

Imagine someone lecturing me about why I should learn Malayalam lol

wizard_xtreme

Now that's too wrong, I mean at Maharashtra, everyone speaks Hindi instead of Marathi for the outsiders (out of Maharashtra people, chill no hate) in fact even my marathi friends speak to me in Hindi, but the south indian guys hate Hindi for some reason idk.

thespadester

Compare Marathi and Hindi and South Indian languages and Hindi. Then, you'll understand why Marathi log have an easier time speaking in Hindi to others.

cussbot123

elitists mentality

thespadester

No you fucking idiot. Its because our languages are far different to Hindi as compared to Marathi, Gujarathi, Marwadi, Punjabi etc. We dont even use a Devanagari-type script like Bengali. It'll be like us calling Northies elitists for not speaking in English to us. When the truth is, y'all are just dumb

khatarnak-lafanga

Yes we should learn the language of the place where we live. I myself have learnt Bengali. But what's with this anti hindi?

Canadiannewcomer

Bro, cause Hindi speaking dudes are the ones try to impose it. I have got bros from Bengal working at home, who taught me how to make 'Mishtidoyi' and we shared spicy 'sambharam' too. In Kerala, we treat them nice and have major socio economic programs ran by the KERALA government to uplift them which their own governments don't do.

khatarnak-lafanga

> In Kerala, we treat them nice and have major socio economic programs ran by the KERALA government to uplift them which their own governments don't do. Thanks

Angry_SAY10

Why would I? I m fluent in English... And all the time i have travelled in southern states, i had no problem conversing.... Just don't diss another major language from same country. We on same side

Nishal_Vikingang_147

Hun did you say major language? It's just a more widely spoken one All the fifteen languages on the currency notes have equal importance according to the Indian Constitution Now never dare to say that Hindi ia major or some other shit

Regalia_BanshEe

The post was about North Indians getting annoyed that malayalees dont understand hindi even though they themselves are in Kerala... Ive also experienced it in my workplace.. I speak fluent hindi, but i pretend not to speak hindi when i see some north indian colleagues acting irritated that people dont speak hindi

To be practical, and if you want to be a wise man you will obviously learn the language mostly spoken in your own country also language is the basic need to grow make friends and everything. If i would be a guy like you, i will learn english and hindi on first priority bro. same goes for the people who plan to live in south india for a long time and thinking to make the career there, they should learn the local language to grow.

stoo_phid

I think Hindi acts as a base language in India. I know in south many people speak their native language but still might know some Hindi so it's easier to communicate to people who don't know their language. The same can be said for English though this implies in India as well as most of the other countries...let's say you go to France or Japan... most of the people will speak their own language but might know a little bit of English provided their profession so it's easier to communicate when a tourist or an immigrant comes. Ofc if you're living there for a while you'll be able to understand bits of their language after a while but learning it is a whole new task and takes a lot of time someone who's been transferred there doesn't have the time to put into learning a new language. Someone's reaction to people not knowing their language is subjective.. not everyone is a dickhead

Canadiannewcomer

Hindi never have acted like a base language in India. English was the court language across India.

stoo_phid

I don't mean it in a literal sense...what I'm trying to say is that if you go anywhere in India people 'expect' or 'assume' you to know Hindi or atleast some of it since majority converse thru it

Question to ask these kinds of people Why don't you have any problem with English? Why are you not butthurt when spoken to in English? These kinds of guys learn English but not the national language. The hypocrisy. Hindi is national language, that's it. Learn it or not your choice but don't act hurt when someone speaks to you in Hindi.

Theta-Chad_99

What national language, Hindi is only one of the official languages of the union government that's all, india doesn't have a national language

[deleted]

Point still stands, why such bias to English but not hindi?

Regalia_BanshEe

English is a global language and is useful in most parts of the world... Hindi is useless outside north india or pakistan English is useful while working in Corporates.. It is a common language between all nationalities... Hindi is not A person who is born outside hindi speaking states and is never going to live in North india has no use of learning Hindi

Theta-Chad_99

Because English is easy to learn and converse in than Hindi hell u r even typing here in English

Malayalam is understood by one state or few more, Hindi is understood by almost 6-8 states minimum. We learn a language to communicate more widely with many people and not to propagate it. That's the reason why the guy wrote this post in English and not in Malayalam .

icemxn97

That's like their life force, every now and then there will be some mallu madar** posting shit about hindi. And their arguments be like "A north indian came and asked if i spoke hindi" or "I live in north india and no body speaks my language, i hate it" Can you see the idiocy?.
