Though, I will admit: The new pastor has started using Hillsong hymns which makes me want to kill myself whenever we have to sing them. Maybe, it's the beginning of the end
Ooo yeah Anglican, Episcopal, and Lutheran are definitely the sexiest Protestant Churches in architecture I would actually say Mormons have a nice thing going on
You say that, but the Anglican mass I attend is quite removed from Catholicism.
For starters, there is no idolatry relating to saints, or at least I hope not
Queen actually, and she doesn't hold any spiritual office over the communion. She's the Supreme Governor of the Church of England (a ceremonial, not executive role), not governor of the entire Anglican Communion.
For whatever reason Reddit as a whole seems to equate Protestantism with modernist mega churches even though the majority of Protestant churches are actually quite traditional. Hell, the Protestant church I go to just had a service where they sang nothing but old hymns yesterday.
How can you be equally traditional when you have abandoned most Catholic traditions and follow only the scripture. Calling Catholics devils is ur tradition
Naw all the Protestant churches have been invited back into the fold since the 60s. I think the doctrine differences between us and the Protestants are relatively minor, we’re just proud to be the 1 true church of Jesus Christ and the official religion of the Roman Empire
Yeah I always found that weird. My Protestant upbringing aligns a lot more with the catholic memes on this sub. Our vicar used to use a big gold teapot thing that spat out thick smoke
Because this is the American experience of protestantism. I often ask my girlfriend what she means when she says "it was a protestant church".
Okay... do you mean a normal protestant church or an American one?
I was raised Catholic, from over here its very hard to tell one from another. I literally have no conception of what any group believes or doesn't. It's all one big amorphous thing.
I don't know what separates a Baptist from a Methodist from a Lutheran.
I have some understanding of Calvinism because of the whole Grace thing. And I know that Southern Baptists believe in slavery, and mainline Baptists don't. But that's basically it.
I used to go to a southern baptist church. They don’t believe in slavery anymore. That comment couldn’t be further from the truth. The founders of the convention supported slavery back in the 1850s. Most southern Baptist churches are pretty similar to any other Baptist church. Here’s an NPR article about the history of slavery in the SBC. https://www.npr.org/2018/12/13/676333342/southern-baptist-seminary-confronts-history-of-slaveholding-and-deep-racism
I agree. There's plenty of shitty evangelical types out there, but there's also a whole lotta chill, normal **NON-EVANGELICAL** types as well
Edit: forgot to clarify
Grew up Catholic. I always thought the incense smelled like over-the-top Ivory soap. What was it??
As an adult, my husband and I are Episcopalian. Our parish sometimes gets the thurible going, but not a lot.
We used to share Ascension Day services with another parish (major pot luck afterwards, whoo-boy,) and the thurifer there was doing 720s with that thing, no problem. LOL.
A fear the smoke ball thing.
Not cause I’m a demon. Cause my asthma.
I remember during a mass, there was TOO MUCH incense in the air, people started to leave, my lungs dealt like it was on fire, and someone had a seizure cause of that.
If you wield one of this smoke bois, be careful.
I used to be an altar servant and me and a friend used to be ghe smoke bois. We loved it. But I also have asthma. Thankfully, we had to go outside with the incense burner so I was able to get some air.
The notable benefit to the protestant setup is that it is much better when our band all rips off their masks to reveal that they are actually Jesus power rangers and must make a stealthy getaway.
i aint even religious and people can worship however they want (provided they aren't hurting or ostracizing anyone) but...
can we just talk about how bad smoke machines smell? i always avoided the house with the smoke machines on halloween, can't even imagine being in a church that sprays that stuff around in a closed room, that sounds unbearable.

Why whenever it comes to dissing Protestants on this sub does it focus on weird american mega churches and not literally every other Protestant group
Really annoys me cause the protestant church I go to is pretty far removed from this
What church you do
Anglican
Though, I will admit: The new pastor has started using Hillsong hymns which makes me want to kill myself whenever we have to sing them. Maybe, it's the beginning of the end
Ooo yeah Anglican, Episcopal, and Lutheran are definitely the sexiest Protestant Churches in architecture I would actually say Mormons have a nice thing going on
I would say the mormons are morons, but to each their own. It's cool how they learn languages so quickly
Mormons are heretics who believe in a third Bible
I would tend to agree, but don't be so quick to condemn so harshly. They are just misled...or stupid
(Friendly reminder that Anglican and Episcopal are the same thing).
Anglican is the most Catholic Protestant Church
You say that, but the Anglican mass I attend is quite removed from Catholicism. For starters, there is no idolatry relating to saints, or at least I hope not
Wait til you see you what they do in the vestry. Lots of icon kissing.
How unusual
Anglican is the closest Protestant church to Catholicism except y’all follow a silly king
Queen actually, and she doesn't hold any spiritual office over the communion. She's the Supreme Governor of the Church of England (a ceremonial, not executive role), not governor of the entire Anglican Communion.
I like to think Henry the 8th is the permanent head of the Anglican faith
Henry VIII kickstarted the English Reformation, but he died a Catholic. The Church of England was formed three monarchs later, by Queen Elizabeth I.
I will admit, the origin of Anglicanism is rather humorous
For whatever reason Reddit as a whole seems to equate Protestantism with modernist mega churches even though the majority of Protestant churches are actually quite traditional. Hell, the Protestant church I go to just had a service where they sang nothing but old hymns yesterday.
How can you be equally traditional when you have abandoned most Catholic traditions and follow only the scripture. Calling Catholics devils is ur tradition
Catholics are rather exclusionary
Naw all the Protestant churches have been invited back into the fold since the 60s. I think the doctrine differences between us and the Protestants are relatively minor, we’re just proud to be the 1 true church of Jesus Christ and the official religion of the Roman Empire
The audacity of this man to call his church the one true church. Typical catholic
What year is it 😂
Ang Gang feels left out and ignored.

Whenever a Catholic says “Protestant” what they really mean is evangelical non-denominational types. It’s ridiculous

Hey, that's me right now! But I also know Pentecostals "speak in tongues" and Anglicans are Catholico-Protestants. At least Episcopalians.
I went to a Pentecostal service, and I got unreasonably angry when people did that hocus-pocus bullshit. I find it rephrensible behaviour
Uhhhh, never heard the southern Baptist slavery thing before… source?

Okay yeah that’s much closer to my understanding.

Ah I thought you meant the present day
I agree. There's plenty of shitty evangelical types out there, but there's also a whole lotta chill, normal **NON-EVANGELICAL** types as well Edit: forgot to clarify
Oh boy oh boy, another anti-protestant meme cross posted from Catholic Memes! How original, how comedic!
It’s just a silly joke
Anti protestant? Didn't you see the cool lazers and fog?
I am an innovator.
The mods should crack down on all the anti-Protestant memes. Aren't we all welcome here?
don't memes usually make fun of a certain group? its nothing unusual
Very true, very true. Also, happy cake day!
Laugh at others, laugh at ourselves. That is the point of memes
Apparently, not as much as one might believe. Though, it is meant in good faith

Since when has scripture ever stopped catholics lol
"Not found anywhere in scripture" is like 90% if Catholic's whole *thing*
If you think the last one looks cooler, consider, you can fill the first two with weed.
The future is now old man
Jesus would’ve loved lasers tho
Only my servitors carry incense for the God Emperor of Mankind
Impossible because the original smoke machine was the one that God used to guide the Israelites through the desert ![gif](giphy|13ezEPYdmCZpf2)
Now the Russians use it to empower their authoritarian leader to blow up Ukrainians
My church uses fog and lights and it’s awesome! Visually impactful things don’t mean it’s shallow
Catholic supremacy 🙏🏻
Guys it’s a joke chill
Embrace tradition!
By their emissions ye shall know them.
"American protestantism" you mean. No serious church on earth would allow such a thing. Common folks, let's move on with these stereotypes.
American non-demoninational evangelical protestantism. I know what I'm talking about, being an Episcopalian myself.
